I have been thinking about buying a bat that I could try doctoring for a softball beer league I am playing in. Has anyone ever tried this? What methods did you use; rolling/barrel compression/rubber mallet? Is it worth it to buy a really good bat Like a Miken or a DeMarini and do this to it? Or will I get the same benefits from a cheaper bat?

You are going to cheat in softball? You could kill the fucking pitcher. Bat regulations are in place for a reason.go. to. hell.

LOL at needing to doctor a softball bat. Any one who is worth a damn in softball does not need to cheat to hit.
10/7/2011 12:06:46 PM
Cheating at softball? Really guy??
10/7/2011 12:17:45 PM
Jesus Christ, Mother Teresa. It is a fucking beer league where there is no ASA standard in place on purpose so all the fat asses can hit with their doctored bats. Just seeing if I can compete while only weight 160lbs. I would never try this in my county league.

It is not cheating if bat doctoring is specifically allowed. And practically encouraged. I am at a severe disadvantage by not using a doctored bat.
10/7/2011 12:39:35 PM
Wasn't there some sort of study proving "doctored" bats didn't help at all?
10/7/2011 12:59:46 PM
softball...lol

^^ if you ever hit with a bat that has been shaved or play against someone who uses a shaved bat, you would know that is not true......as far as rolling bats, you are not altering the bat anymore than repetitive hitting with the bat does. It just speeds that "break in" process up.

This is more along the lines of what I am talking about?Does anyone have a preference of aluminum over composite? What are some good bats to look at?
10/7/2011 1:19:48 PM
10/7/2011 1:22:13 PM
Composite is much better than aluminum, but you need to break them in.

def go with a composite and you really cant go wrong with alot of the bats out there. Miken, Worth, Easton are the best in my opinion. After that you just need to hit with a buddies bat in BP and see what feels good to you. Word of caution: It is getting cooler and bats are more likely to crack in cold temps, so i wouldnt use your friends well broken in bat, unless you want to risk buying him a bat instead of one for yourself

damn, i saw this thread and was hoping it was another prong looking into the UNC CHEAT baseball program

just be better at hitting. they always put the worst player in right field, pull it or hit opposite field right at the guy, extra bases. If you aren't good enough to place the ball in slow pitch softball you shouldn't be playing.
10/7/2011 3:17:51 PM
Man leagues where everyone just hits HRs suck anyway. Bunch of old fat guys that don't even run the bases when they do crank one out. Some of them don't even run when they hit a non-HR. Those leagues are just boring.
10/7/2011 4:44:34 PM
(baseball is boring)
10/7/2011 4:45:49 PM
forget bat doctoring, HGH is where its at

My suggestion is to pick a sport that's not for pussies and fatasses. ]

Thought this was "bad doctoring" and was expecting pics of michael jackson's doctoralso:[Edited on October 7, 2011 at 9:45 PM. Reason : .]

We played a couple teams this season that all used one bat and they hit a bunch of HRs with it. Even the small guys. One guy swung the bat and it broke in the beginning of his swing. Umpire didn't even look at it...

Just use a good bat and hit it to RF. If this is a beer league, there are senior league bats that have a ton of pop and are relatively cheap. You can find out what bats are good at http://www.softballfans.com/reviews/But if you are going to shave a bat, know it takes out ~1.5ounces and will weaken the bat. Light bats that have this done will break easily.[Edited on October 8, 2011 at 9:59 AM. Reason : ]

I would try raquet balls instead of tennis balls in a softball bat

I ended up buying a Louisville Catalyst this weekend. It definitely needs to be broken in. Feels very stiff.[Edited on October 9, 2011 at 5:08 PM. Reason : slugger]

There is no point in looking like a superstar in beer league or coedMy new bat will be rolled and shaved with 3 golfballs and packed with foam. Unfortunatly its clear as day no one in here has a clue how serious softball can get.If your going to pack things in it make sure you get a bat that is already endloadedI've got a number if you want something rolled. pretty much. people put up and pay out good money for that shit. its a world sport and in the olympics
10/10/2011 2:48:24 PM
How much pressure or force is needed to do this adequately with seriously damaging it? Or should I just try the rubber mallet method?
10/10/2011 2:53:25 PM
to be honest. the best way is to find the biggest and smoothest tree in your yard and hit the bat against it firmly and twist a little bit with each hit. thats what i did with my synergy
