I am planning to switch to Verizon from USC. I have had a BB Bold for the past year and I am done with RIM. Is the Iphone or Bionic a better phone? Or does it simply come down to OS and App preference? Thanks in advance.
10/4/2011 10:38:48 PM
not sure if trolling.a serious answer before the hounds are set loose: it comes down to OS and app preference.
10/4/2011 10:49:09 PM
Bionic
10/4/2011 10:49:10 PM
Wait. Android announcement next tuesday
10/4/2011 10:50:20 PM
After today's less than exciting 4S announcement I was pretty sure I would switch to the Nexus Prime but I don't want a giant 4.6" screen... so I guess I'll preorder my 4S Friday.
10/4/2011 11:45:53 PM
some of that size is taken up because it is supposed to be using soft buttons instead of hard physical ones... The screen has been the most varied in rumored specs... 4.6" does sound way to big, though, I agree. Gonnaa wait to see what it ends up at[Edited on October 5, 2011 at 12:29 AM. Reason : .]
10/5/2011 12:28:41 AM
yeah, i don't know what i'd want anything bigger than my tbolt's 4.3"IT HAS TO STOP AT SOME POINT

Friend got himself a Bionic. It's just as smooth and responsive as any other high-end phone. But with all that bandwidth to wield it seems a shame to not have wifi tether. In town he can pull down 20-25Mbit and upload 2-3. That's faster than my house connection
10/5/2011 8:43:48 AM
bionicor wait for the primemeOS sucks[Edited on October 5, 2011 at 9:37 AM. Reason : i]
10/5/2011 9:37:13 AM
Wait a couple of weeks to see what the Prime is all about, then choose.
10/5/2011 9:42:15 AM
Just don't get the Bionic if you're trying to take fast pictures![Edited on October 5, 2011 at 10:15 AM. Reason : s]
10/5/2011 10:15:26 AM
^does that consider picture quality?
10/5/2011 10:27:28 AM
I'm sure the quality is similar. No real comparisons out yet though. Although the fact that is takes almost 4 seconds to take a picture on the Bionic compared to a second on the iPhone 4s is a big deal. Quick captures are what makes a camera phone unique because you always have it with you. I know the iPhone 4s has image stabilization which the Bionic does not. That adds a lot especially if you're shooting 1080p video. The screen resolution on the iPhone 4s is also higher than the bionic.
10/5/2011 10:34:15 AM
ah, ok. I agree that 4s is way too long, but I also think time and quality have to be considered together. it may turn out that the mePhone takes better pictures, but I don't think you can compare times without quality.
10/5/2011 10:52:06 AM
Palm Pre!*ducks*
10/5/2011 10:55:55 AM
You mean the bionic is too long? I think the length of time to take a photo more has to do with the OS than the actual quality of the sensor. I'm sure quality will be similar but if it takes me a 1/4th the time to take a picture with image stabilization on the iPhone 4s I'd take that any day over the bionic.
10/5/2011 10:56:16 AM
mePhone?What the fuck
10/5/2011 10:56:49 AM
I have a bionic and I kind of want an 4S.My biggest disappointment with droid phones has been the camera. On the bionic, there's not even a goddamn hardware button to take a photo. The quality isn't great. The timing sucks. I couldn't care less about MP.
10/5/2011 11:08:36 AM
lmao @ pre...
10/5/2011 2:24:57 PM
Does the iPhone have a dedicated camera button?Moto cameras have been pretty disappointing to me back to the d1
10/5/2011 4:50:00 PM
I remember seeing something on one of the videos for ios5 that you can use the folume button at the top to take a picture OR use the home button, so thats a nice feature. As for the question of the topic, I am debating the same thing, but leaning toward the iphone purely because I was planning on it ahead of time. I like Siri but honestly don't think I'd use it all that much

http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/iphone-4s-vs-the-smartphone-elite-galaxy-s-ii-bionic-and-tita/Galaxy S2 takes top spot; Bionic and i4s close second.
10/6/2011 6:30:43 PM
According to what? 4s' resolution is higher. Looks like it has a better camera. Possibly better battery life. No ones really even reviewed the 4s. You can't go on a couple specs alone.
10/6/2011 7:15:26 PM
Sure all of that will be invalid anyways when Samsung announces the Prime next week.
10/6/2011 7:18:11 PM
The HTC Titan is also the least appealing of the WP7 phones.Focus S or bust.
10/6/2011 7:31:05 PM
With Verizon one of the biggest choices is if you go iphone you do not get the simultaneous voice and data, where you do get that with the Bionic ( you get it on both if you are at wifi spot)
10/6/2011 8:35:53 PM
-iPhone 4s has retina display again with 329dpi and blows bionic out of the water-Bionic has no gyroscopeLTE isn't 4g. LTE Advanced is however. Bionic does not support this, so it's just a 'better 3g' not a true 4g by actual 4g standards http://www.itu.int/net/pressoffice/press_releases/2010/40.aspxIs the only iPhone 4 does not support flash.I'm honestly trying to find 1 thing where the bionic is truthfully superior. At first I thought battery life, but it's heavier, and I'd rather have a smaller lighter phone. not a brick. plus i just want a solid phone not a piece of plastic.can somebody explain their real reasons for going bionic over iphone 4. or ip4s. i honestly would switch if you can convince me.
10/6/2011 8:47:20 PM
The ITU modified their definition shortly after to include LTE/wimax and evolved 3G techologies (hspa+). http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/121710-itu-softens-on-the-definition.html
10/6/2011 8:57:39 PM
iPhone is small, so if you are a girl or have girly hands it's probably better for you.If not Bionic or wait for the Nexus.
10/6/2011 9:29:26 PM
10/7/2011 9:41:24 AM
i would assume that the nexus will cost the same as the iphone 4S and bionic? i ask because unless you absolutely need a phone now, you should wait for the nexus to make a decision...seems like it's going to solidly beat out both overall[Edited on October 7, 2011 at 9:46 AM. Reason : ^ pretty good analogy]
10/7/2011 9:44:35 AM
Is there a particular reason you want Verizon?A month ago I switched to T-Mobile (HTC Sensation) after the end of my 2-year contract with AT&T (iPhone 3GS). The coverage isn't any better, but I'm paying $20 less a month for more services: -tethering vs no tethering-WiFi hotspot vs no hotspot-Unlimited texting vs 250texts-they will unlock my phone after 3 monthsAs far as phones go, I'd get the iPhone 4S. I like iOS better due to the simplicity, speed and reliability.
10/7/2011 10:39:51 AM
some people probably want reliable coverage to go with that reliable phone.
10/7/2011 10:46:20 AM
Almost every time I take a call I'm on the internet on my phone. During business calls I use a bluetooth and am always responding to emails or checking updates. Can you really still not do this on Verizon? That would seriously handicap me.
10/7/2011 10:50:26 AM
Most likely not unless you're on wifi. Thunderbolt is the only Verizon phone capable of simultaneous voice & data on 3G.
10/7/2011 10:53:09 AM
Well that sucks. Another reason not to choose Verizon. Plus AT&T in Charlotte is fantastic.
10/7/2011 10:54:44 AM
Cdma prohibits it, so yes... however, if you were on lte data, your calls could go through cdma ... allowing you to do both. I dont know if this is enabled yet or not, but i think its a long term hope for some.
10/7/2011 10:55:51 AM
10/7/2011 11:04:03 AM
I was under the impression that cdma was incapable... hmm.
10/7/2011 12:15:48 PM
^^the 4s is capable of hitting the higher HPSA+ numbers on AT&T's network, that's a pretty big plus in my book.[Edited on October 7, 2011 at 12:19 PM. Reason : h]
10/7/2011 12:18:56 PM
it only runs on 14.4 which based on reports of other phones is only 3-4Mbps. Not really that impressive
10/7/2011 12:23:37 PM
^but better than the speeds you will hit with the iPhone 4s on Verizon or Sprint's networks. Theoretically, at least.Just saying... talk & surf is not the ONLY selling point over Verizon.[Edited on October 7, 2011 at 12:33 PM. Reason : ;]
10/7/2011 12:25:16 PM
Not worth the sacrifice in network quality though. Not to mention the Infuse 4G on AT&T supports up to 21Mbps so not sure why they took a step down with the 4s. Maybe they figure their network can't handle the load? It'll be interesting to see how all the LTE networks fare since everyone will be on a level playing field as far as technology used.]

Siri seems pretty slick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKRwV3DTVLoThey seem to have leap-frogged Androids voice recognition.

^^You were comparing the phones so you could make a decision on whether or not to switch.
