I am looking at Baileys and have found the ring I want. I have been shopping it for a little over two months and the ring still hasn't sold yet.How much (%) should I expect to be able to negotiate off of the price?

a good amount i'd assume. The worst they can say is no. Research the markup on engagement rings, and make an offer that would still allow for a good take in on their side, so they would consider it.

I am thinking somewhere in the 15-20% range. However, I don't know what a normal time in inventory is for an engagement ring. If two months is a long time then I will go for blood. If not, then I am probably gonna stay around that range.

Okay seriously...Mark up is at least 50% probably 75%You should probably drop the bomb at 40% off the asking price.They should counter offer with a price around 10%-20% off the asking price.You meet half way and accept the price directly half way in the middle.Expect to get 20% to 25% off.

Did you see a specific jeweler's name beside it? (Or brand, whatever)Chances are it could be a ring they designed themselves... so I'm not sure how good of a chance you would have knocking them down. FTR, if it really is a one of a kind setting but it's by someone else and they're not willing to negotiate, you could try asking them to replicate that design or make something similar (or even better) at more of the price you would like to pay[Edited on September 13, 2011 at 10:47 PM. well i have a friend in the jewelry business and he said that his "guy" could probably make the same ring for about 20% less. however, a "guy" isn't as trustworthy as a name like Bailey's and also, I like all the perks (including 12 months 0%) that come with buying from a store. plus, you know it wouldn't be the same.

i went to diamonds direct first to just look and get an idea. their staff made me feel like i had to put a deposit on the particular ring i liked that day because it was such a "great deal." i felt extremely rushed when i went there. i then went to baileys and found the same ring/ same stone and got a price. it was a couple hundred dollars more than diamonds direct and i let them know and they said they would match it. they were very easy going and i felt comfortable the entire time. DD emailed me the same day still pushing me to come buy. i responded that i didn't like the way i felt rushed and the store manager (the guy that does the commercials) personally called me and offered it to me for $1500 less to win my business. (that was on an $8k ring) i ended up going with baileys and showed them the final offer that DD made. they came down a few hundred more dollars but have absolutely gone out of their way to make all the other purchases there very enjoyable.so with all that said, i guess ~20% less may be a solid offer. the best way to get them down is make them compete. I would buy a $100 engagement ring and spend the $1900 that I saved to buy a bigger and better wedding ring.If she breaks up with you over the $100 engagement ring, you know she's into you for your money and not for you as a person.Especially when I've seen what girls do with the $2000 rings after you break up. I was a jewelry retailer for about a year and a half.15% was our maximum allowance with discounting without special tags on certain pieces.Only way it was lower was if we were having a sale on that item and it appeared in our flyer / catalog at a lower price.

I ended up getting my engagement ring from kingofjewelry.comAMAZING ring, and I paid 30-35% lower than anyone else could do (and close to 50% lower than any store could go). They were fucking awesome service-wise too. The guy running the place bent over backwards for me multiple times to make sure I got the ring on time and to the right place The only downside was that they offer no financing, you gotta have the $$$ or the credit line to pay in full. But it was absolutely worth every penny.
