there's gotta be a couple people in here that at least want to try it out.i drive an s13 (nissan 240sx for those that aren't fluent in chassis codes). amongst my close friends we have a slew of s13s, a couple s14s, a couple e30s, a supra, and a miata. we go to various track events and drift events (Driftwater in Moyock, Streetwise in Charlotte, VIR) from time to time. if anyone here wants to give it a go, i highly suggest it. fun is an understatement for sure.p.s. if you see a red POS 240 driving around, say hi. i won't flip you off if you're nice

Drifting is a fake sport invented by tire manufacturers.

I was really into it with my 944 back in the day.Btw, prepare to be flamed. That's just how the garage rolls sometimes. Damn I miss being a part of the driving scene. [Edited on September 11, 2011 at 7:12 PM. Reason : .]

I don't know. Knowing how irrational the garage can be at times, I figured people would start making Fast and Furious jokes or something. Hopefully I'm wrong.Damn the work computer; always blocking pictures and stuff. I didn't realize there was a pic in the first post until you mentioned something... 9/11/2011 7:41:48 PM
Are you running into a cone in that picture?
9/11/2011 8:01:13 PM
it was the clipping point for that corner. i "clipped" a little too close.[Edited on September 11, 2011 at 8:20 PM. Reason : .]

I can appreciate drifing. I know Ahmet does too, although he prefers so with German vehicles. It's okay, I'm half JDM yo. (serious)

diggin' the fender flares!not diggin' the red A-pillar<-- KA-T
9/11/2011 9:14:10 PM
hell yeah! for now i'm just sticking with my smooth power, sr20/gt2560rs. my housemate is KA-T though. his setup a blast, soooo torquey. was on a pulsar gtir t28, now going hx30.

sometimes i'll drift with live bait on a carolina rig for flounder
9/11/2011 9:45:53 PM
I wished I knew how to drift on command on two wheels. I've only been able to do it a few times by accident and in situations that scared the people around me more than myself. And I'm not talking about dirt.

I know, I just wanted to let you know of the broken link. Happens on tdub since we are blacklisted from a number of image hosts.

H8R and I drift as well.... with our subarus.... on dirt.its the same thing
9/11/2011 11:07:19 PM
dirt is much more fun, more forgiving and doesn't tear up your tires as fast
9/11/2011 11:22:54 PM
the suspension on the other hand... I got to look while at home ("lunchtime"). Looks like fun! How long have you been doing this?
9/11/2011 11:35:02 PM
Why do you people route your exhaust halfway up the rear of the car.
9/12/2011 1:14:40 AM
Less into drifting as into going fast... but hey, loose is fast
9/12/2011 8:54:01 AM
heyyyyyyyyy i spy driftwater. what's up chris! still got the hood? as always, i'm jealous of your LS beast.Ragged: *Robert Downey Jr black guy voice* what do you mean "you people"?Hiro: got the car almost two years ago, and i've been going to events ever since. driftwater is definitely my favorite. before that i went to a few driftwater and autox events with my old prelude, but understeer wasn't nearly as fun as oversteer as it turns out.
9/12/2011 10:10:09 AM
^no. spinning tires = not accelerating as fast as you could be
9/12/2011 10:11:59 AM
i'm sorry if i ruined your day because i had a little fun
9/12/2011 10:30:45 AM
I think drifting is fun but it's pretty abusive and certainly one of the more dangerous things you can do on the street. I have a car capable of it (Rx-7) but I don't do it much--usually it's unintentional actually...I used to screw around with my Mark III Supra more. Those are big cars and easier to control.[Edited on September 12, 2011 at 10:47 AM. Reason : .]
9/12/2011 10:45:56 AM
i don't really care to do it on the street. sliding just one corner is pretty boring. winding tracks are much more fun because you can actually link corners back to back.
9/12/2011 11:13:38 AM
i don't really care for it. i'd rather go fast.plus, replacing tires at the cyclic rate is already a bitch...I can't imagine how fast I'd go through them if I intentionally lit up the rears and slid the car around everywhere.
9/12/2011 11:21:26 AM
but that's the point. i DON'T intentionally light up the rears and slide the car around everywhere. i only destroy tires quickly at drift events, and most of those tires are free throw-aways from local tire shops. the expensive part is just fixing all the mechanical issues.

... more like better keep that BOV greased up!!!
9/12/2011 11:50:57 AM
nah, s-chassis diffs are plenty strong enough for drifting. and fortunately nothing has broken from rev limiter bouncing yet, keeping my fingers crossed on these fickle SR rockers.and my BOV is blocked off for now. i need to recirculate it again. but for now, compressor surge ftw.
9/12/2011 12:05:52 PM
fuck it, I haven't had a BOV in years
9/12/2011 12:11:36 PM
really? man im out of touchthe comp on my truck does the whole "CHOOoooooo" thing when i dump the pedal @ 40psi, I know lots of diesel guys try to steer clear from surging, so i can only imagine what the flutter is like with an actual butterfly in place
9/12/2011 1:18:57 PM
with 40+psi, i can see why you might want to blow that off. with 15psi it's not that big a deal.

9/12/2011 2:17:43 PM
I don't consider a little bit of noise on deceleration as "real" compressor surge--not like the kind that can occur under full load. Speaking of compressor surge, here is a little known fact: Both the Supra and Rx-7 intentionally introduce compressor surge in their sequential twin turbo systems. The second turbo goes into surge for up to a few seconds in order to increase spool up.Mazda commissioned an internal study on their Hitachi turbochargers to analyze the effects of sustained compressor surging under full load. They found that compressor temperature increases as a function of time. There is a threshold in seconds that must be exceeded for damage to occur. Now I'm sure somebody somewhere on the internet may have possibly damaged something from not having a blowoff valve, and I'm not saying everyone should throw theirs in the trash, but I'm really not worried about it.
9/12/2011 2:20:35 PM
probably should have put that in my rambling thread.
9/12/2011 2:21:24 PM
i know a few big-name drift competitors (the ones that are still turbo and haven't switched to V8) often run with no blowoff. i wasn't too worried about it before, but that graph makes me feel that much better, haha. thanks for posting, that's a pretty neat bit of trivia.[Edited on September 12, 2011 at 2:46 PM. nooooope. fingers crossed that it'll last fine until i graduate, at which point it's either getting sold or getting a KA-T transplant.

LOL... so a KA swap into a 240? LOL nice... i always wanted to build a KA24det
