Anything I should worry about with going to 285/40R17 from 275/40R17? The tires I want for my fronts are on back order in the 275 size. Been waiting 3 months for them to become available, just ready to get something new....Response from dealer:The 285 is 26.0 in overall diameter (OD) versus the 275 which is 25.7 OD. This is less than a 3% difference than the original equipment (OE) size, which means it should work just fine for a plus fitment and should not affect gear ratio, fuel consumption or ABS system. Also, the 285 falls within the rim specification. The OE is 10” and the 285 room width range is 9.5”-11”, making the OE wheel 10” wide acceptable.

I think it would be just fine. And since your car is RWD your speedometer accuracy and gearing will be unaffected.

If you change height on rear, it will change ur speedo if ur rwd.

^I hear ya. Kind of like when I took my S2000 into Honda and they told me a tire rotation would be part of the service check up

They just wanted to guarantee a return customer

you probly won't notice it, but it will have a slower turn-in

^^I highly doubt you would want an unstaggered tire set up for that car!^I don't think anyone would care about changing the tire width by 4%.

Just got the tires in today, should be installed by Sunday (and new brake pads, EBC Red Stuffs)Kumho Ecsta XS (Extreme Performance Summer)Front: 285/40R17 Rear: 335/35R17 I spoke with 2 other Viper owners with Kumhos and both noted they liked them better than Michelin PS2s, but advised never to drive in the rain (which I have never done anyway). The Kumhos are a bit softer and wear down quicker, but I've only heard great things about the dry grip.

I've heard good things about those tires...and have heard they're scary bad in the rain.[Edited on September 1, 2011 at 1:58 PM. Reason : k]

It'll be fine. I also run 10mm wider on the front of my z06.Also look at Nitto NT05 tires. What's funny about the ABS thing?
9/1/2011 2:54:41 PM
I ain't got nun
9/1/2011 2:56:58 PM
^^ Also, I don't think they make Nitto NT05s in 335, not for 17" anyways. I am not planning on bigger wheels anytime soon

^^^His Viper doesn't have ABS.

lol i think its funny that most cars you put EMS on them and you lose traction control... however i know a couple viper guys that rock the motec so they gain traction control.

^^ Oh, Viper, duh. I had just woken up...wasn't hitting on all 10 cylinders when I posted that.
