love Charleston. Savannah may be better it's kind of a toss up
8/22/2011 4:09:42 AM
This might not matter to most, but Charleston is super-bikeable. I'm not sure about Savannah, but it seemed smaller than Charleston when I was there.Mobile, Alabama is an acceptable substitute.
8/22/2011 9:23:32 AM
Savannah _is_ charleston, but smaller and in Georgia.
8/22/2011 9:24:35 AM
I love this city.
8/22/2011 9:30:50 AM
^^ and with far fewer college kids. damn I miss charleston. why did we ever think it was a good idea to move away?
8/22/2011 11:05:18 AM
My ultimate plan is to get to charleston.

Might get fucked
8/22/2011 2:38:35 PM
the place floods easily anyway... it rained pretty hard for an hour when i was down there the other weekend, and all of the roads downtown in the market area were underwater.

Husk in Charleston was just recently named the best new restaurant in the country. A ton of good food down that way. Plus if you follow hotwire you can occasionally get $100/night for a room in the downtown district. I have stayed down there twice at the charleston marriot for that price...
8/22/2011 7:48:27 PM
I live and work down in Charleston, SC. AWESOME town. Nightlife is awesome. Restaurants are awesome. Eating at charleston gill is possible the best food ever in the entire world. Going to be buying a house in about a week. Anyone need a room to live in?

Tell me about the crowds and the tourists? Is it bad bad or a part of life you get used to and learn to avoid?
8/22/2011 8:42:35 PM
No real crowds. Traffic is decent. Just avoid rush hour. I see tourists but they never bother me. Then again i am usually out at night in the bar scene.
8/22/2011 9:06:52 PM
^^ you get used to the tourists. the worst time of year is start of fall semester, due to the large influx of citadel, CofC, and MUSC students and their parents. But it's worth the mess, and after a while it turns into a "background" sort of issue.^I totally disagree about the crowds. I lived on meeting street above Hymans- and there are times of year when the flocks of tourists in a three block radius of my apt were just insane. I think it was a fair trade off for the location and size of my place, but that doesn't mean they weren't still there. Also, if you live in west ashley/james island or mt. p and drive downtown for work, traffic is a bitch. I was fortunate enough to be driving out of downtown for work, so it wasn't a huge deal for me personally.
8/22/2011 10:15:37 PM
^ you my be right. I only really go downtown friday and saturday night.
8/22/2011 11:08:31 PM
mantisstunna, you have inspired me to try more places! I really miss living near the action. I live in Hanahan now and I can bike to work, but it's a 20 mile drive to do anything fun.
8/22/2011 11:13:08 PM
I live about 17 miles from downtown. It's only a 20ish minute drive to downtown. The only thing i would recommend would be try 4 star restaurants. I didn't know food could taste that good until I did. I would honestly almost trade sex for the food if I had a choice its that good.

saw that earlier jbrick! sounds fun place and we are thinking of http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/27089
11/11/2011 9:49:20 AM
^That seems awesome...but I still recommend people staying downtown so you can walk everywhere. How long will you be staying (and dates)? Depending on what restaurants you want to go to, you might want to go ahead and start making reservations.I recommend FIG, Husk, and Lucca...in that order. Husk is probably already booked for all of Thanksgiving weekend, but no worries, FIG is still better IMO.

12/25/2013 8:05:14 AM
I bet you're the opposite of fun.
12/25/2013 8:49:23 AM
My brother is moving soon to Savannah and I may be moving to Charleston not long after the new year. Pretty sweet that I could enjoy both cities without paying for a hotel.Charleston >> Savannah in terms of historic things to see, but Savannah has a better nightlife IMO.[Edited on December 26, 2013 at 11:12 AM.
