Searched and found no thread...Saw it last night and I was very impressed. Storyline, acting, and action were all great. I only went because of word of mouth, so ill pay it forward. The CGI is worth noting, it was very well done. Well worth the ticket price IMO. Fantastic experience on a big screen.Discuss.

i really want to see this story and find it very interesting to see how it all began

also enjoyed it. A++++ would recommend

I was very pleased with this. The first trailer made it look like a dumb action movie, don't let that fool you.I really enjoyed the amusing references to the original movie.

Great movie, EuroTitToss is ignorant.

No matter how well acted the movie is, any movie that tries to portray apes taking over the world via violent uprising is laughable enough for me to not want to watch it.Apes taking over the world after humans destroy themselves? Not likely but plausable enough to fit into a setting. Apes taking over after gaining human level intelligence, but still only possess populations in the low millions and no armies? Not very likely. Also, why dont some of those humans just expose themselves to the gas to become super geniuses? If it works on both gorillas and chimpanzees I think it's safe to assume it works on all great apes.[Edited on August 11, 2011 at 2:27 PM. Reason : ]

Movie has a explanation for all that. Don't knock it till you cock it.

Clip of first ape reaching hyper-intelligence:[/chitchat]^^^I'm with you on that one. The first trailer just makes me notice how suspect the CGI looks and also makes me ask questions like "What about all the hillbillies and their gun collections". An ape insurrection wouldn't last very long... maybe longer if it got its start in England... how long have those riots been going on ^^Haha. Probably a group of liberals saying "don't hurt the apes, they are sentient" as people are getting beat to death by them.^Yeah, that explains it.[Edited on August 11, 2011 at 3:03 PM. Reason : -]

Surprised at the positive reviews this is getting. Now I'm going to have to convince the girl to go now after we've decided we won't be seeing it in the theaters. Unfortunately I think it's already behind a couple other movies we will have to see first. This is looking like a redbox/netflix catch.
8/11/2011 3:15:57 PM
Do yourself a favor and see it in a theater.

Thought this was great and really loved the nods to the original.

It was entertaining, but entirely retarded. I don't care if its sci-fi, too many plot points and convenient set ups were completely unbelieveable to make me get enveloped in the story. The cgi was laughable with the main monkey, but other ones looked alright. The scarred monkey had a ton of build up with no release. The screen time he got was pointless.I did find it hilariously fitting that the movie was set in California, god damn hippie central where no one would have a gun to shoot the main ape the first time he attacked anyone. Not to mention the subliminal message that humanity will meet its end because of some stupid fucking hippies. Again, convenient set upSee it on Netflix. Or a matinee. Seeing it in theater was nothing special.[Edited on August 12, 2011 at 9:45 AM. Reason : there were also several plot holes and shit that just didnt make sense ]
8/12/2011 9:44:47 AM
The scarred monkey's money shot was killing the main black guy. Caesar could've saved him, but set the other guy up for the fatality instead.
8/12/2011 10:26:14 AM
i thought the CGI was actually pretty bad. I wasnt feeling the whole "man is evil" vibe the film was trying to portray, as if the neighbor actually reacted irrationally at the various situations involving the chimp and the dad and deserved punishment.that indian chick is freakin banging though. The love story and her character were completely unnecessary and brought nothing to the film.what the movie should explain was the devolution from current technology to the technology found in planet of the apes? Did the monkeys quit taking the virus and forget shit?[Edited on August 12, 2011 at 12:09 PM. Reason : c]

saw it last night and enjoyed it.i guess the references to the ship going to mars, lost in space, etc were for setting up the next movie(s). (this is a 'reboot' of the series, right? has nothing to do with the other recent planet of the apes)
8/12/2011 1:23:45 PM
8/12/2011 2:43:21 PM
^^ It's a reboot that's designed to somewhat resemble the original series. This one is pretty close to "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" as far as plot points go (super-intelligent chimp named Caesar leads an ape revolt).

Just saw it last night, I thoroughly enjoyed it!Question though: How did the apes that Ceasar rescued from the zoo get super smart? I'd think that as soon as he broke them free they'd just start climbing around doing their own thing.
8/13/2011 11:56:03 AM
^ they had to cut the part where the had sex with all of them and gave them the smart aids.

he got those viruses out of his owners fridge when he snuck out the first time then came back and blew them up releasing smart gas to all the monkeys
8/13/2011 2:11:14 PM
^ right, but he was asking about the apes that were released from the zoo after the main group (i.e., the ones who got the 'smart gas') had already escaped. I assume 3 options:a) it's a movie, so we aren't supposed to question it-- just go with itb) perhaps the 'pack mentality' of apes makes it such that they will follow the group rather than doing their own thingc) they seemed to be emphasizing the role of pheromones. the apes in the zoo got really agitated/ excited when the 'smart apes' came close. could it be that the apes in the zoo got smart just by sniffing the pheromones?
8/13/2011 2:43:21 PM
So I saw Rot Pot A today.Somehow I thought it would be more about ape carnage.
8/14/2011 2:26:08 AM
now i kinda want to see all the old ones. i saw the original one a while ago, but never any of the sequels.worth checking out?
8/14/2011 9:38:15 AM
definitelymy favorite of the series was Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, followed closely by Escape From...
8/14/2011 10:56:28 AM
Saw it yesterday. Pretty good...I was kind of perplexed a bit with how much build up plot wise there was, then you had the climax on the bridge and it just dropped to nothing....its almost like they were like "OH shit guys, we dont have enough budget for a 2 hr movie, so lets fit this in a 1 hr 50 min movie"[Edited on August 14, 2011 at 6:02 PM. she doesnt have the Indian nose...impressive
8/14/2011 11:20:17 PM
one thing kinda fucked with mehow many monkeys did they have in that monkey shelter?what? like 20 or 30?then later we see them escape (before they let all the other zoo monkeys out)and theres like wide shots of perhaps a hundred or so? what the hell, where did they all come from?
8/15/2011 5:43:02 PM
^ they released a shit load of them from the lab. also, from the zoo
8/15/2011 8:04:40 PM
^ before the lab and before the zoomeh i guess it doesnt really matter since you didnt notice anything off[Edited on August 16, 2011 at 8:54 AM. Reason : damned dirty apes]

8/16/2011 10:06:24 AM
Alright Bweez, I saw the movie. Now allow me to poke holes in it with informed arguments.SpoilersIf the reason the apes can survive the more aggressive strain of the virus is because their immune systems are more powerful, why did the weaker virus work on them at all? If it can only work a few years before a fragile old alzheimers patient can "fight" it, shouldn't it only work a few weeks or months max on chimps with their apparently godlike immune system?I'm assuming the end was showing a pandemic spread of the virus. A few major problems with that also. First, I noticed they put the whole spread of the epidemic in a little animation with no details, so they wouldn't have to show how a virus with symptoms appearing almost immediately can infect the entire world so easily.Second, the damn virus isn't even air-communicable. If it was everyone in contact with Caesar would have gotten the virus. The only way you can get it is inhaling the specially made gas (inhaling mind you, the others had exposed skin and eyes but didn't get it) or by direct blood transmission. So apparently people are bleeding all over each other constantly in airports now?
