So, this is related to my recent thread about transmission trouble with my resto shop. I have the existing 289 and original C4 automatic transmission from my 66 mustang and I'm trying to decide what to do with it.They worth anything? The transmission is in good condition, the engine had a tiny bit of lifter tap if I remember correctly from 3 years ago, but was otherwise good. Not sure whether to pick them up from the shop, keep in my garage and try to sell them off on Craigslist or wherever, or just junk 'em. Can you get money back from Jasper for an engine core even if not buying a new one?

I would think it would be worth picking it up and selling on CL. Should be at least a few hundred bucks for a couple hours of work. Bonus points since the shop who sold you the weak C4 won't profit off of it.

is this the original drivetrain and do you still own the vehicle? if it was me and i had the space, i would keep the engine/trans in case you ever wanted to return it to a numbers matching vehicle. if nothing else, it would be a selling point if you ever sell the car. numbers matching isn't a huge deal with high volume classics like early mustangs, but as time passes and more bite the dust the desire will increase.

Yeah it's more a storage space issue than anything. Also, I don't have an engine lift. It's the 3rd engine, actually, but the transmission is original, so that's definitely a good point.

no one cares about an original auto if the engine numbers don't match for the most part.i'd craigslist it.If you feel like taking the time to check the engine numbers to make sure it wasn't a hypo or something worth a few bucks more that probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
