It's a gamble and be prepared to do a lot of work just to recoup your investment. IMO, not worth it, especially if you don't have decent hardware already.

^it's in the interest of the miners to prevent additional clients from connecting to mine. The system releases something like 1 bitcoin per 10 minute interval. To control that flow the network adjusts difficulty for "locating a bitcoin". So if every joker with a computer joined up (assuming everyone had equal processing power) it would become proportionally harder to find a coin. So we tell everyone it sucks so they'll peace out and we can get back to finding lots of coins.However this would also change the value of a coin in relation to the dollar, so the question is whether it would come out in the wash.[Edited on June 28, 2011 at 4:17 PM.
