I got a new summer intern to supervise this year because apparently I "did a great job" on the last one..

The last one was awesome.. this guy is incredibly socially introverted. I can barely hear him speak half the time.

I interned for the first 3 summers of college. This past summer, I got away with so much crap during my internship making 26/hour Probably spent 20% of my entire workweek actually doing work, which is why I turned down the offer at the end of the summer. You think that'd be a dream gig but being required to be at an office for 9 hours a day with no work to do is the suck. I told the next company screw interning and getting a master's, I'm ready to get down to bidness. They concurred

I remember being an intern. Its right between your jr. and sr. year or right after your summer year before getting hired on in the fall. It's thrilling because you're so full of hope. then, maybe things don't work out quite the way you expected them to and the economy falls apart and there are no jobs....

^ Unfortunately, I've seen that happen way too many times. Shit, there was a great intern that worked with me back in 2008. Fan-fucking-tastic. We were all looking forward to him finishing up, and starting with us that next summer.

nope. economy tanked, people started getting laid off, hiring freeze, etc...

Honestly I think interns would suit my current company well. Or, really, if we could just cycle out coop students. The job doesn't require more attention than that because all the senior people don't want you to do anything besides follow policy. Interns are great for drone work.

We had 9 (paid) summer interns start today. My 2 are working out well so far. But they went through a pretty detailed multi-stage interview process that required demonstration of some on the job skills, and went through a 3 day training workshop last week. So they were ready to hit the ground running today. And our spring semester intern is starting on as a temp/contract staff person for a half year position beginning next week. One of my bosses was even an intern in this program many years back. So I think it's a pretty good program over all.

just got an internship with RTI today.

Funny thing about unpaid internships is that Obama tried to prevent employers from doing that iirc and required that you at least earn class credit. I've already graduated, but have to pay for an internship class that I don't need at all just so I can do the internship, so in essence Obama's good intentions have actually made it so I'm doing a negative money internship. Getting a foot in the door at RTI is worth it though.

Luckily, I have a really well paying job at State that I work half time and remotely to cover my bills until August.
