Where are you located?Im taking Civil with transportation afternoon

I'm taking mine in Columbia, SC since I live and work in Greenville, SC now. I have several friends who have passed the Civil but they were all structural.

did they take the structural one or the general one ?

I believe they all did structural. They are structural steel design engineers so they are doing structural calculations and analysis on a regular basis.

oh cool. I have worked at Fluor for over 4 years now. Came right out of college and have enjoyed living here so far. The downtown is really nice for a city this size.

Big rumors about Fluor moving the majority of their engineering jobs to india/china. This coming from a friend of mine who worked for Fluor in India and is now getting his masters here in Raleigh.

meh. I mean there is definitely a trend in the industry as a whole to shift some of the engineering to other countries for cost saving measures when it makes sense (read when a plant is being built in India, China, somewhere in the Middle East, a few other places). So work-sharing with our other offices is nothing new.It would be a long time before they moved all of the engineering to another country though. It just wouldn't make sense. For example, the majority of the projects I have worked on during my 4+ years here have been projects that could not have been executed out of our Manila, or Indian, or Chinese offices entirely and in some cases not at all for a number of reasons. (Classified information, US government funded projects, almost all new high profile plant being built on US soil).Yes, as projects start to explode in India and China, they are trying to capture that market. I will say that the quality of work coming out of our India, China, and Manila offices is on an entirely different level (in a bad way) compared to when I work with other branches of Fluor (read US/European).Anyway, back to the PE Exam [Edited on June 19, 2011 at 7:28 PM.
