sorry, I know this is a tired topic with many a thread about it, but I have a specific question. from another thread:

maybe, but you're going to get hell every time you take it in for inspection
6/4/2011 4:49:58 PM
Your STi has lockers? And that statute specifies a window "behind the driver".

if you have a waiver for tint then there is no problem. no waiver no passI listen to stories all fucking day long about why peoples windows are tinted. im failing it unless i have a waiver or a dmv inspector hold your hand and tells me to pass it.Theonly way to get a waiver for tint is to work for the state(L.E.) or an RX from your doctor written to the state. It has nothing to do with your "off road WRX bullshit"^the people you take your car to are idiotsby the way window tint laws are fucking stupid.
6/4/2011 5:56:44 PM
yea, but even with a waver it can only be as low as like 30 right?
6/4/2011 7:43:37 PM
what the hell are you talking about? it clearly states a minivan or pick-up truck. your car is neither. it doesn't matter what you think. what matters is what the law states.

with a waiver, it can be anything, but they need to put the waiver under the tint and it's only valid to the original owner. if you sell the car, it needs to be stripped off or you will be breaking the law.your car will most likely not qualify unless someone really likes you.[Edited on June 4, 2011 at 8:25 PM. Bump. Getting my windows tinted today/tomorrow. Just going to do 35%.
8/31/2011 10:09:53 AM
i just paid a 100 dollar "tindow tint fee" in a form of a ticket for 35% tint on driver's and passanger's window of my truck. the shittiest part is that the fine itself is only $30, but with all the "administrative fees" it come up to about 100, tripling the cost. What the hell kind of "administration" requires 70 dollars worth of labor costs? Its goddamn highway robbery, plain and simple. But i'm not retinting it, goddamit!/rant
8/31/2011 11:30:00 AM
^But if 35% is legal then can't you get the ticket thrown out?-oh i guess it depends on the state. If 35% is legal in NC but not in another state you can get ticketed in that state I guess? [Edited on August 31, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Reason : s]

if its written on the ticket. take it to the da and it should be dropped
8/31/2011 2:46:02 PM
You can have tint to whatever is legal in the state the car is registered in when I was in CA, my tint was illegal by their laws, but fine for me as a NC vehicle.
8/31/2011 3:34:04 PM
ooooh nice. So if I go out of state where 35% isn't legal I'm good? Sweet.
8/31/2011 4:04:54 PM
^^my cousin got a WV-registered car and still got a tint ticket from a state trooper in VA. This was on an INTERSTATE highway. When he mentioned that his car is registered in WV, trooper cited the legislation and said it did not matter. Of course it was in the Spotsylvania region which seems to have the highest concentration of asshole state trooper in the entire country^^^^it's a VA registered car

I've had my Q45 tinted at 35% as long as I've owned it, 4 years. It always passes inspection and cops never give me crap about it. During the day in direct sunlight you can still see through it but under dimmer conditions it's not easy to see through.

Here is my car with the lowest legal allowed on it in NC (done by Pete @ TVP)
8/31/2011 11:36:37 PM
Just got mine done. I'll post a pic later today.
9/1/2011 1:08:37 PM
my truck has 35% tint on it, but it checks 31.5% every damn time. law says 32% is the limit. it's a bitch, but the last few times i've just rolled the windows down when i pulled up to the shop and they never question it.[Edited on September 1, 2011 at 11:06 PM. Reason : th]
