and i'm not talking 90's miniseries here. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/blogs/heat-vision/stephen-kings-stand-heading-big-94805

I held the miniseries so dear to my heart that I can't imagine anyone else playing the roles of each character. Will still see though, such an epic story.

From another article...
6/1/2011 1:22:36 PM
I've always thought the perfect medium for a Stephen King book would be a pay tv mini series. It, The Stand, Tommyknockers had to have so much cut out for the network TV mini series. If it was on HBO, Starzz, even Netflix, they could come much closer to the source material.
6/1/2011 1:24:37 PM
A "The Stand" trilogy, if done right, could be pretty badass
6/1/2011 1:28:25 PM
Gary Sinise as Stu Redman in CSI NY: The Lleutenant Dan Story
6/1/2011 1:38:54 PM
I'm currently reading this book for the first time...about 1/4 of the way through.
6/1/2011 1:39:33 PM
I give this about a 5% chance of actually getting made[Edited on June 1, 2011 at 1:59 PM. Reason : .]
6/1/2011 1:58:37 PM
my favorite Stephen King book. love the miniseries too. in fact, i may rewatch sometime in the near future.
6/1/2011 2:37:08 PM
No way it could ever be better than Maximum Overdrive.
6/1/2011 2:39:49 PM
I watched the miniseries very shortly after reading the book.I thought the miniseries was terrible. But I think a movie would do the book a disservice as well... no way you could condense that book into even a 3 hour movie. If HBO did a miniseries on it, I'd have some faith.
6/1/2011 2:45:07 PM
THe mini-series came off as cheesey to me in it's quality.
6/1/2011 3:42:41 PM
After what AMC has done with The Walking Dead, I wouldn't mind seeing The Stand as a straight-up full-length series.
6/1/2011 3:45:21 PM
I want dark tower
6/1/2011 3:56:00 PM
^being done
6/1/2011 3:58:17 PM
Yeah I know, can't wait!I wish there was an audio book of The Stand. I don't have time to read with my hobbies and side projects but I am trying to 'read' all of the King novels that relate to the Dark Tower universe.
6/1/2011 4:04:00 PM
6/1/2011 4:48:47 PM
Sweet. Loved the book, not so hot on the miniseries (although Gary Sinese was excellent in it, I thought).
6/1/2011 5:12:41 PM
am I the only one who thought the only reason the miniseries was ok was because it was so laughably bad, or.....
6/1/2011 6:40:56 PM
I saw the miniseries before i read the book... i thought the miniseries was ok, but it really piqued my interest and motivated me to read the book which was awesome. I'm reading it for a second time now.
6/1/2011 9:36:46 PM
^^Nah I feel the same.
6/2/2011 8:36:16 PM
I'm probably the only one on here who wasn't thrilled with the book. Read a ton of King that I like better.
6/2/2011 11:33:55 PM
6/3/2011 8:16:59 AM
Interesting--looking forward to hearing more about it. A single movie would do a severe disservice to the book though--would definitely work best as a trilogy.Agree with King that Billy Bob Thornton would make a near-ideal Trashcan Man.
6/3/2011 9:49:41 AM
I read the book and enjoyed it. I watched the old movies and hated them. Should I watch the mini-series?Sounds like King won't have much creative input in the film. That will probably be a good thing. I liked The Mist, despite it's sudden, thoroughly depressing conclusion.
6/3/2011 10:22:32 AM
^the "old movies" are probably the miniseries... with molly ringwald et al
6/3/2011 11:36:03 AM
6/3/2011 1:18:54 PM
i should read the dark tower.somehow that's about the only major stephen king i've not read, heh.
6/3/2011 1:23:52 PM
Yes, you should. Go procure The Gunslinger now and get to readin'.
6/3/2011 5:01:15 PM
Even if you don't love gunslinger, move to the second book; it will be worth it.
6/3/2011 6:26:28 PM
Book 4, Wizard and Glass, is the best. I'm on Wolves of the Calla now - very great series. I like how he ties a lot of his other works into The Dark Tower univeres.
6/3/2011 11:11:43 PM
For srs though, who's going to be a better Stu than Gary?[Edited on June 4, 2011 at 12:15 AM. Reason : ^ W&G is also my favorite of the series.]
6/4/2011 12:14:56 AM
^^ yeah ive been trying to read all of the connecting works. Nearly all of his books have some sort of minor connection so im trying to stick to the major ones.Ive read Black House and Insomnia so far, about 1/3 of the way through Hearts in Atlantis. Until they release an audio book version of the stand im going to be missing out
6/4/2011 12:56:22 AM
yeah i think there's like 19 books connected.. or maybe i'm just thinking that because 19s all over the place in the dark tower. but that seems like the right number for some reasonalso, i think i liked the first book the best. i know there's another thread for this, but i liked it before we got to all the magic and trains and wizard of oz and crap. 4 and 5 were real good too though.[Edited on June 4, 2011 at 1:02 AM. Reason : ~]
6/4/2011 1:01:30 AM
19? Seems like it should be more. Almost every one of his books has some connection, though very tenuous in many cases. Maybe 19 have major character/plot connections or something.
6/4/2011 2:15:13 AM
It's the number "19" itself thats the connection. He uses it somehow in each book. There are also other ties:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_King_works_related_to_The_Dark_Tower_series
6/6/2011 1:43:02 PM
ehuse the official connectionshttp://www.stephenking.com/darktower/connections.html

lolI am absolutely infatuated with BBTwtf is wrong with me?And I mean in like . . bad santa or the astronaut farmer . . not slingblade BBT

6/6/2011 11:01:34 PM
Just finished reading this, and I've started to Netflix the mini-series (cheesy as all hell), but I'd like to see this re-done as a movie trilogy or as previously mentioned maybe like an AMC or HBO series.Billy Bobb would make a great Trashy, but for some reason I always pictured Steve Buscemi in the book.I could see Daniel Craig as Stu Redman, but I can't decide who would make a good Randall Flagg
6/14/2011 5:08:43 PM
God I hope they don't have someone sing that god awful "baby can you dig your man" shit
6/14/2011 11:19:24 PM
Robert Downy Jr. would be perfect for the part of Stu. He could sing that awesome "baby can you dig your man" song too.
6/14/2011 11:54:12 PM
6/14/2011 11:58:59 PM
^^ RDJ would make a good Larry U. What I fear is that some judd apatow character like Johah Hill is gonna end up playing Harold...
6/15/2011 12:43:23 AM
^Yeah I was thinking that same thing about HaroldIt just occurred to me that while Trashcan would be Steve Buscemi, I think Billy Bobb would make a great Lloyd.Ryan Reynolds might not make a bad Larry Underwood.
6/15/2011 6:18:02 AM
Durr meant to type larry for rdj.
6/15/2011 7:50:13 AM
Heath Ledger post batman would probably of made a great Flagg, but if TDK didnt kill em, this would of. What about Johnny Depp as Flagg? I think he's got a good mix of that really creepy charm that draws people to Vegas...
6/15/2011 5:47:36 PM
Whoever they cast, it would be awesome if they also had him in The Dark Tower series.I think Depp is too 'pretty'. a younger dafoe might work
6/15/2011 5:59:08 PM
^^uh, hell no.
