Initial lineup is out. I'd imagine that, just like last year, there's a ton of acts they still have to add.http://moogfest.com/artists/How much Flaming Lips can one North Carolinian get this fall? Still a lot to be excited about, though. Suicide performing Suicide is and . Other shit I'm excited about:Passion Pit (not a HUGE fan, but should be a very fun show)Tangerine Dream (could be a disaster, could be great, but I definitely don't wanna miss it)Crystal CastlesChromeoBattlesM83Holy FuckOneohtrix Point Never/Ford & LopatinTwin ShadowToro y MoiMatthew DearTim HeckerLittle DragonIncluding the Lips, that's five shared artists with Hopscotch. Oh well, if I do buy a ticket to Moogfest again, that'll make the decisions at Hopscotch that much easier. All in all, though, lineup isn't as epic as last year's so far. We'll see what the additions bring.[Edited on June 1, 2011 at 10:40 AM. Reason : s]

im more excited by this years lineup already. last years was great and the festival was a ton of fun.
6/1/2011 11:16:37 AM
Last year was an obscene amount of fun. Last year's lineup had 61 acts, this year's only has 29 so far, so this lineup is still only about halfway done. Should be another great Halloween weekend in Asheville. Probably most excited for M83 and Suicide.
6/1/2011 11:22:47 AM
Pretty excited to see M83 as well. I've been waiting for them to play a show nearby so this is an awesome surprise
6/1/2011 11:40:44 AM
doesn't look nearly as good as last years lineup, imho.but, i'm pulling for my hometown festival to make it. they needed something up there other than bele cher. (which is nothing but a tourist shit show).
6/1/2011 11:50:08 AM
^it's not the full lineup
6/1/2011 11:55:29 AM
yeah, and if last year was any indication, the 30 or so bands they still have to add will include some pretty big/awesome names
6/1/2011 12:03:32 PM
am I the only person who doesn't like Chromeo at all?
6/1/2011 12:54:36 PM
I've been wanting to see M83 for a long timefeel like this needs to happen this year
6/2/2011 1:09:59 AM
6/2/2011 2:03:24 AM
lips/suicide/m83 are the only interesting things on there imoadrian belew is lolworthy

STS9 could be awesome, and Umphrey's Mcgee is great.[Edited on June 2, 2011 at 3:50 AM. Reason : ibthate]
6/2/2011 3:50:25 AM
you'd have to pay me a large sum of money to sit through sets by those bands...but you knew that.
6/2/2011 3:57:37 AM
^^^ really? no battles? matthew dear? twin shadow?
6/2/2011 3:12:49 PM
crystal castles are great for the "mmmm wat" factor
6/2/2011 3:24:28 PM
6/2/2011 3:31:09 PM
i'd really like to see almost every band on that initial lineup, except for a few (Umphrey's, Adrian Belew, Ghostland Observatory (ugh)). STS9 is the only band out of that horrendous genre that I don't mind.
6/2/2011 3:32:39 PM
^yep, feel that exact same way...i don't listen to sts9 very often, but they're a whole lot more bearable than most of that stuffi've been checkin' out some of the lower artists that i hadn't heard and it's all pretty cool. that brandt brauer frick band is actually pretty awesome from what little i heard
6/2/2011 3:37:32 PM
ghostland is actually kinda fun live.if you're into a shit ton of lasers and smoke machines."hey, we know our music is kinda mediocre, so we're going to spend a fuckton on some kickass lasers and this dude over here's going to wear a cape. just get fucked up and play with the lasers with your hands and dance a little bit"[Edited on June 2, 2011 at 3:39 PM. Reason : granted i havent listened to or seen them since like 2008, things might have changed]
6/2/2011 3:38:39 PM
^haha, i could probably get behind that, even though their music is definitely boring. i think silly, fun live bands like that definitely have their place in the worldalso, apparently that hans-joachim roedelius dude is the guy behind cluster. didn't realize that.
6/2/2011 3:43:23 PM
6/2/2011 9:06:49 PM
Ghostland sucks, but their live shows are pretty fun, depending on the crowd. I definitely don't think last year's lineup was better than this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they added AnCo to the lineup here, for some reason...
6/2/2011 11:35:27 PM
^I could absolutely see Animal Collective being added
6/3/2011 12:00:35 AM
Every time I see this thread I assume it has something to do with Dr. Moog at NCSU. I can't imagine what that sort of Moogfest would entail...probably a lot of Indian people and complaints about Republicans.
6/3/2011 12:01:45 AM
Why waste your time posting things like that?Anyway, I've never been to this in the I guess 2 years it's been in Asheville, so can someone fill me in on whether or not it's still up in the air to get tickets if I'm buying first thing when they go on sale? And if someone can hook it up with that presale they're having tomorrow I'll be all muchas gracias so I don't have to worry about it...
6/3/2011 12:39:11 AM
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEBODY JUST GIVE ME THE PRESALE PASSWORD. FFS.
6/3/2011 10:40:51 AM
They haven't e-mailed out the presale passwords yet.Last year was the fest's first year, and they still sold out mega quick (the all-show passes completely sold out in a month or two tops IIRC, but they didn't do the stagger-pricing system that they're doing this year), so I'd get on the site right when they go on sale if you want a chance at the cheapest tix.
6/3/2011 10:57:04 AM
If you get the password, can you email it to me?
6/3/2011 11:08:29 AM
These bitches just got purchased. And I didn't realize Ford and Lopatin were playing Hopscotch. Weird...

sad that this is the only 2011 nc tour date for UM so far :-/

6/5/2011 1:41:29 PM
i met Battles in the airport in O'Hare a few weeks ago. it was cool. John Stanier is a badass.
6/6/2011 4:14:15 PM
i think i'm going to bite the bullet and get a ticket when i get paid on thursday/friday. i like the payment plan option, but i might just go ahead and do the whole thing and get it over with. i realize that the initial lineup shares a lot of bands w/ hopscotch, but they'll add more. and i would love to see crystal castles, holyfuck, m83, and austra. and battles. and passion pit could be super fun.people that went last year: where did you stay? was it $$$texas?that is kinda my big hesitation. unlike hopscotch i'd have to pay to stay somewhere. blahhhh.
6/13/2011 3:01:35 PM
We booked for like a hundy a night at the Bellmont last week when I bought tickets (I believe that's the name).PS - that's about what you're gonna spend anywhere, within the range of +\- 30 dollars per night. I would book asap for cheaper rates, obviously. And do the payment plan if you need the money to book a room early, etc.[Edited on June 13, 2011 at 4:31 PM. Reason : d]
6/13/2011 4:24:59 PM
oh $100/night isn't badi was thinking like $200. and then i was gonna cry. esp w/ a room share $100 - $150 isn't bad. i might be able to cop some of my dad's hotel points. and i have AAA discount.
6/13/2011 4:59:49 PM
I stayed in Asheville about a month ago at Extended Stay America. Our no smoking room reeked of smoke (seriously smelled like it had been smoked in daily for many months), but it was only ~$70 a night and about a mile from downtown.
6/13/2011 5:52:44 PM
^^^ is that walking distance?i've stayed in a couple of places in aville before (most recently a best western right outside downtown). i would like to be walking distance to festival activities if possible because of alcohol consumption/ease of getting there/general vibeBUT we shall see. has anyone stayed in the hostel before? that seems like a good deal to me. private double occupancy room for $60 a night. holla.
6/13/2011 6:27:03 PM
If it's not, it's like a 5 dollar cab ride. All those places out on that strip where the Days Inn is; the cab ride's only 10 tops. I wanna say the Belmont IS in walking distance, but you'd have to look it up...
6/13/2011 6:41:00 PM
word upthat days inn gets a horrible rep. i've never stayed there. but it is cheap haha so considering it. but i've always heard horrible reviews. i'm super stoked that tommy wiseau and i are gonna take the moog fest plunge. i mean...i think it will be amazingly fun. i can't wait. sept/oct is gonna ruuuule.
6/13/2011 7:03:23 PM
I'm dying to see what the half of the roster yet to be added will look like.
6/13/2011 11:14:14 PM
Yeah, it's probably Baymont. I didn't book the hotel and I'm an idiot, so...
6/14/2011 12:38:09 AM
Anyone have any schedule add rumors...anything?
6/14/2011 12:08:25 PM
I've heard good things about the Sweet Peas Hostel and it's super cheap and right in downtown Asheville. Thinking about staying there, but I don't know if they have any openings or not for that weekend.
6/14/2011 12:18:49 PM
Amon Tobin confirmed. Second wave of adds tomorrow morn. Tobin is ok. I have Permutations and Pirranha Breaks, but I think the dude did some video game soundtracks and I had since lost interest. Tomorrow I am hoping to see some of the following: Beastie Boys, Beach House, AnCo, Com Truise (probably not), Washed Out, etc.
6/22/2011 11:02:13 PM
Also, Grizzly Bear proper would be great.
6/22/2011 11:07:44 PM
one of the better bands on this lineup is likely playing at Kings the same weekend. would be awesome to see them at Kings but probably will rule either way (hate to be that guy but I can't say who it is because it hasn't been announced yet)
6/22/2011 11:10:52 PM
supposedly portishead is one of the additions tomorrow, but i'll believe it when i see it
