Don't need all the features of the $80-$100 Nero Suite, but would still like to be able to author video DVDs among other random burning tasks. What else is out there?

I second CDBurnerXP. It is the best CD burning program I have used for Window$, free or not. It does only what you need (burning discs) without including a bunch of crap like media players that you don't need.
