None of the other threads were titled correctly, plus 2+ years out of date. This was better that I expected. It's being killed by critics (and I can't say it's really a good movie, objectively), but I thought it was a fun movie and I liked it a lot more than PotC 2 and 3.

Cant Johnny Depp die already.

It was ok. Entertaining.

I had a good time. It was too long, and was probably more in line with the 2nd and 3rd movies than with the first.Didnt miss Elizabeth or Turner at all. Cruz got somewhat annoying.Would recommend though, fun movie.

My gf and I went to see Thor last night...there were people lined up and dressed in pirate gear to see Pirates. Line was practically out the door for it and there were all of like 7 people in the Thor theater. Seems like we even got some stragglers from Pirates when it sold out since about 9 young kids came into our theater with two chaperones.[Edited on May 21, 2011 at 12:28 PM. It was okay. Not a great movie by any means. Worth the matinée price maybe?
5/21/2011 2:16:07 PM
It was terrible. I loved the first one, thought the second one was okay, and thought the third one was just a way worse version of the second one. On Stranger Tides just never made any sense. None of the characters achieved anything, and none of the plot points made any sense. It was like they took 4 or 5 ideas, threw them in a script, and then forgot to make them fit in the overall story.
5/21/2011 7:37:10 PM
Saw it tonight and too me it was extremely boring. Not only that it seemed to have random ideas just thrown together quickly to make the movie.
5/22/2011 12:23:57 AM
I liked it. 3D is wasted but it was mostly good fun. Preferred it to the second and third movie, but I wanted more of Blackbeard being Blackbeard and less of the chaplain guy.

Felt slow. The action scenes were less oriented on specific people and more the overall fight it felt.I'd rate it better than #2 but that's it.

A friend of mine saw it last night and said it was the best one yet and wants to see it again.

This movie was all over the place.*SPOILERS*I thought it was ridiculous that the Spanish came in and said "Only God can make you immortal, except for this one thing, which we're going to destroy". And the missionary/mermaid love story was out of left field and just felt weird. I get the feeling that was thrown in to give the audience someone to care about, since every other major character was selfish and looking out for themselves.*END SPOILERS*Overall it was ok at best. I had low expectations so it wasn't as big a letdown as the third one. I guess I'm the only person who liked PotC 2.
5/29/2011 11:13:38 PM
3>2? What the hell did 3 do better, except (presumably) imply they were ending the pirate movies there?
5/30/2011 6:16:14 PM
^ That's my assessment.PotC 3 was just another sequel in a string of extremely unwatchable part 3s that were coming out at the time.Spider-Man 3X-Mex 3[Edited on May 30, 2011 at 8:32 PM. Reason : -]

I dunno, they did a fantastic job in the first 1.5 hours of 3 making me not care about the main storyline, much less resolving the additional storylines 3 decided to make important. The end fight, despite a fucking huge maelstrom, was one of the most anticlimactic actions scenes ever. As much as it hurts me to remember, weren't there two huge armies of ships, but the magical sea goddess/whatever just made the two fight? And then something..happened and they totally blew up the businessman's ship? I forgave 2 more there were less retarded storylines, and I thought they'd learn from 2 sucking to make 3, but I guess not. I really hate acknowledging they even made 3. Same with Spiderman 3.

**SPOILERS**After further considerations, I noticed this huge plot hole that I just can't get around. If this is the fountain of youth...a mythical fountain in the New World that assumedly was at least "discovered" by native americans, why the hell can it only be access by bringing to chalices owned by a Spanish explorer with "Aqua de Vida" engraved onto them?***End Spoiler***

Overall, I enjoyed this movie more than Hangover 2. And I think it is definitely better than the last 2 movies of the series.
5/31/2011 9:45:46 AM
anything after the credits?
5/31/2011 10:24:23 AM
the whole mermaid/priest thing was fucking retarded and should have been completely cut from the script. Needed more piratery. All the time spent on the stupid fucking mermaid thing should have been spent on the other characters. I think they should have probably either gone with a different story or done a major overhaul b/c everything for the first hour or so seemed to be alot of shoehorning to get them all hunting for the fountain, but then when they get there not much happens. IDK if thats a result of one too many shitty subplots or what but it made it all pretty underwhelming. i did like the part where the spanish show up to destroy the fountain. it was a decent "twist".better than 2, not better than 1 or 3.
5/31/2011 10:28:09 AM
^^yes, there is something after the credits.SPOILER:I was pretty pissed off that they didn't explain Blackbeard's supernatural connection to his ship, as well as the comment that when beheaded his body swam around the shpi three times before climbing back on. You can't just talk about shit like that and give no explanation END SPOILEROverall I still enjoyed it. Enough so that I'll probably buy the BluRay when it comes out.

i'm going to see it tonight. worth the imax + 3D or just go to the regular show?
5/31/2011 5:59:29 PM
i saw it on a regular screen in 2d and i don't think i would have wanted to pay any more for it than i already did
5/31/2011 6:27:59 PM
****************SPOILERS**********************The things that I just didn't get about this movie is that if you needed a mermaid tear for the fountain to work, then why did Barbossa's crew carry on when they clearly didn't have what was necessary? Also they explained nothing about Blackbeard's voodoo powers or why he had them. And why were mermaids bad, but the one they happen to capture was trying to save the priest before she ever knew him? Not to mention their entire relationship was just put in the movie to make people care about some of the characters since everyone else was in it for themselves. Also the whole movie relied on random coincidence. I know movies do that a lot, but Jack's father just happened to show up and vanish when he was needed, same goes for those random 'zombie-pirate' things at a few points. ***********SPOILERS**********
5/31/2011 6:42:30 PM
**Spoiler**^Insofar as Barbosa was concerned he didn't give a shit about the fountain, all he wanted to do was kill Blackbeard

SPOILER
6/1/2011 11:41:40 AM
I got that the mermaids were 'man-eaters' or something to that effect. They would be hostile no matter what your intentions. Which is why the one was 'different'
6/1/2011 11:43:08 AM
^^this is what i thought, mermaids are bad to bad men, protective of good men

he was the king in Kings (tv)
6/2/2011 11:26:01 PM
^^^^lol, sorry he wasn't the mayor. He ran the town but he wasn't the mayor. Also Ian McShane is British so if he didn't have any sort of accent that's a bit odd. (though i can't really recall if he did or not)
