I know the guy selling it. Recently replaced the engine and transmission. Only thing it needs currently is a new battery.

If you don't, I will. Well I will if it has either the 304 or the 345 in it.

Dammit. I was hoping to get some negatives. I don't need this at all, but at $700, it's hard to pass up. My stepdad had an '81 Laredo that I learned to drive on growing up, and this is bringing back the memories.

^ Has a bimini (I think that's it) top that he's never used.

It's pretty weathered...but it runs great. I don't have a garage either. Would just keep it covered if I wasn't using it.

Buy it if it's something you want, but be honest with yourself about your intentions. If you're not prepared to keep it up you might as well flip it for some cash or pass on the deal entirely. You don't want to buy it and then regret how much of your time it is eating up.

Can you enjoy it in it's current state? If not, can you really put in the time to fix it up?
Are you ok with working on it as needed or paying someone else to do it for you?

I agree with everyone saying it's a great deal at $700, but if it causes more headaches than enjoyment it's not worth owning.

Does this truck have a big "Semper Fi" sticker on the back? If so, I've spotted it several times in the Off Kaplan region of Raleigh. Haven't seen it in about a year though so I figured whoever owned it may have moved.

^In the process of figuring that out.

And no one has seen this around Raleigh. I live in Charleston. So this would definitely be my beach/summer ride.

My friend told me he would hold it for me for a day because he'd like to "keep it in the family", but he just called while I was on the phone with a client and I think it means he's had an offer that will be tough to turn down.

I used to drive a '79 Scout as my first car. Painted orange and black with a hardtop and soft top. It got about 6mpg, barely worked in the winter and couldn't be driven over 55 without having to shout or worry if serving would start smoking, but damn I miss that car in the summertime - was the perfect beach ride and everyone loved it. Gave it to camp Rockfish when I graduated and didn't have a garage to keep it in.

Definitely worth $700 and if you won't take it I will.

there's a chance that could be a rare model. it has an ssII (a.k.a. "super scout") grille. the ssII style grilles are readily available through reproduction and are a common mod to regular scout II's, however, i see a few more clues that could make it a real ssII:

-factory rollbar. not exclusive to ssII models only, but was standard on all ssII's.

-the absence of a hard top. pretty sure i can make out the windshield rail and side rails used for attaching a soft top. ssII's only came with soft tops.

-the wheels are of the same design as factory ssII wheels.

one obvious thing that didn't come on ssII's is the full steel doors. ssII's had inserts installed into the door frame that gave the opening a "jeepish" shape, and then soft doors that fit to those inserts. however, it was not uncommon for steel doors to make their way onto ssII's at dealerships or at some other point in life.

anyway, definitely worth checking considering only about 4k ssII's were made iirc. i don't think they command much if any more monetary value, just the cool factor of the rare options/low production numbers. it's super easy to identify a real ssII. they had the vin tag on the passenger side kick panel. all other models had the vin tag on the driver side door frame.

So I didn't end up buying the jeep in the original post...but this is now for sale:

The girl posted on facebook that she was moving and was selling pretty much all of her stuff. Now just today she posted it again, saying that the price has been lowered and that she really needs to get rid of it. So I sent her a message just to see what she was asking and she replies with:

Quote :
"I'm moving next Sunday so Im just ready to get it sold."

What do I offer t-dub??

wheels and tires are worth a grand...

the rest is worth however much you think the good time you'll get out if it is worth.

i.e. (how much fun you can imagine having in it)*(how long you think you will have that much fun in it or how long it will last before it breaks)

Not $6,500 worth...which is what she just re-replied with as her "new price".

Do you feel silly for not buying the vehicle in the OP?

Has the seller of the current vehicle set any initial asking price?

Not silly...but a slight regret. It would have been an impractical purchase. We live downtown with limited parking...so that part would have been a pain in the ass. I also traded in my sedan for a 4runner shortly thereafter...so that has no become our "beach" vehicle. I still would have liked it and am pretty sure I could have flipped it for a profit if it didn't work out. But it just wasn't worth the hassle at the time.

Yeah...I was floored when she said $6,500. No wonder she hasn't sold it yet...because that was her new "lower" price. Makes me think she got ripped off whenever she bought it (this girl is a certified idiot). I was thinking that because she was in rush, it might be around $2,000. Oh well.

She's never going to sale this thing. I never responded after she gave me the $6,500 price, and she responded with this:

Quote :
"Hey there, just wanted to let ya know that even though Im moving Sunday, Im leaving the bronco here to sale. I'll be coming back to Charleston a lot the next 2 months so if you want to test drive it and check it out let me know. I would love for you and Paige to get the truck, because I know you would take good care of it and enjoy it."

I told her $6,500 was nowhere near my range and that she should try and sale it on Craigslist (she's only been posting on facebook apparently). She responded that she's scared to sell her car on craigslist because we had a kid murdered here over the summer while trying to do the same thing.

I've a neighbor with a full-size bronco, with factory tires. I'm confident that's the factory size (225 or 235 on a 15")

Definitely factory...Has the factory tire cover on it still and that thing has no room to go any bigger.
