i was having some trouble with my weed trimmer running so I took the carb apart and cleaned it out real good but now it seems to run worse. i took off the pump diaphragm, metering diaphragm and the needle valve assembly and cleaned all the passages with carb cleaner. let it dry and put it back together. it idles well but dies on full throttle. if I over tighten the screw that holds down the jet lever pivot pin (see picture) will that cause the engine to to die on full throttle? i wouldn't think so but looking for ideas.

no. all the screw does is hold the shaft in place that the needle valve rotates on. sounds to me like now that the carb is clean you need to readjust the main jet. the adjustments are marked "L" for idle and "H" for main. they might even be color-coded with white being the idle and red being the main.

in fact, before you do any adjustment have you cleaned the exhaust? disassemble the muffler, clean it, and remove the spark arrestor screen.

ok after doing some more research it looks like i just need to tune it by adjusting the high end and low end needle screws

the symptoms you describe really point to a clogged exhaust.

As mentioned above, make sure the exhaust is clean, check for leaks around the gaskets you disturbed(gasket sets are cheap on ebay) and start tuning it.
