http://www.facebook.com/pages/Uptown-Cheapskate-Raleigh/215067448521632"Like" us on Facebook. We will be partnering up with Pulse 102FM (102.3/102.5)UPtown Cheapskate will be opening very soon in the Raleigh, NC area. The store will be located above Bada Wings in Mission Valley. Wednesday May 25th they will start buying back your name brand like-new clothes. Uptown Cheapskate offers gently worn brand name fashion at a fraction of the prices paid in malls, department stores and specialty boutiques. Uptown Cheapskate provides a new way to shop. We stand behind the tag lines “buy sell exchange” and “our cash, your clothes …lets trade”. Our concept is quite simple. We buy and sell gently worn like new items at prices that everyone can get excited about. Free People, True Religion, Roxy, American Eagle and Steve Madden are some of the brand names that they’re looking for. Uptown Cheapskate pays cash on the spot for the items that we’re able to sale and offers to donate any remaining items that you bring in. The core customers are male and female between the ages of 13-35. Someone with a great fashion sense but that may be unwilling to spend tons of money on brand name clothing. Uptown Cheapskate is a second-hand store without the usual grunge and clutter, with clean lines and well-organized racks of clothes -- topped by a funky selection of shoes, bags and accessories. But as with any second-hand store, the adventure is seeing what treasures are buried among the other stuff.

just when you thought "Plato's Closet" was a terrible name...
5/13/2011 10:35:40 AM
why is it called plato's closet anyway?
5/13/2011 10:39:13 AM
haha no idea but these people seem to really know what they're doing. It will be a lot more organized and cleaner than a Plato's
5/13/2011 10:41:39 AM
can't believe they finally have tenant for that space after all these years
5/13/2011 10:44:06 AM
5/13/2011 10:46:11 AM
i was hoping for something better in that space. oh well.
5/13/2011 10:59:06 AM
MISSION VALLEY IS IN NO WAY UPTOWN. DECEIVING NAME IS DECEIVING.
5/13/2011 11:13:53 AM
wasn't there supposed to be a huge sports bar opening in that space at one point? And whatever happened to the Kroger?
5/13/2011 11:35:36 AM
the problem with that place is there is no running water or plumbing hookups.
5/13/2011 11:49:23 AM
I hate these kinds of stores, mostly because I have no sense of style so they don't want my old stuff. Also I'm not 16 anymore so I have no use for sleazy clothes.
5/13/2011 2:44:59 PM
hey so now when my work shirts are still wet in the dryer i can just show up anyway and run upstairs real quickawesomein all seriousness though i'm very excited that something is finally going in that space so i can stop fielding questions about it. got to the point i was just making shit up because i got so sick of "the real reasons" of which i only had a vague idea to begin with
5/14/2011 1:43:49 PM
owners are extremely cool people. true story.
5/14/2011 2:16:16 PM
whats the rent for that place? I've heard its ridiculously overpriced
5/14/2011 4:14:08 PM
I always thought it would be a kick ass place for a gym...but the whole "no plumbing" thing ruined thatin slightly related news -- my friend who works for Sheetz corporate said they're looking in to buying the old Blockbuster and the Burger King and setting up a Sheetz there

Uptown is proabably a relative term. It's opening by the end of this week.
5/23/2011 1:58:21 PM
I really don't see the MV owners giving the green light on a gas station, though it would be nice and a pretty lucrative spot
5/23/2011 2:32:13 PM
How is uptown a relative term? If you consider Raleigh as a town, then geographically "uptown" would be north Raleigh. North Hills would be mid-town, and the city center with all the big buildings would be downtown (as it is already rightfully called).lol, "uptown" [Edited on May 23, 2011 at 3:47 PM. Reason : h]
5/23/2011 3:46:48 PM
People seem to think "uptown" is somehow classier. My sister gets offended when people refer to downtown Charlotte as "downtown" rather than "uptown". I'm pretty sure it's still downtown though certainly correct me if I'm wrong.
5/23/2011 3:53:32 PM
Uptown was born of the fear that telling someone you were "going downtown" indicated an imminent act of oral sex. This is common knowledge.

The point of the post wasn't to discuss birth of the term "Uptown" but thank you for your Google detective work. We're all far more enlightened than before.
5/31/2011 1:00:49 PM
they turned that one around nice and quickly, only submitted the design for permitting like a month and a half ago. guess they were pretty serious about getting this up and running asap.
5/31/2011 1:05:32 PM
^^that discussion was much more interesting anyway
5/31/2011 5:23:59 PM
one time I was at Mission Valley, I think around the Blockbuster, and saw some fat homeless black lady stop by a tree and just take a shit, then keep walking
5/31/2011 6:20:18 PM
bump
6/7/2011 10:52:00 AM
it is one thing to post an ad thread (you know...instead of just buying one). It is another to bump it when there has been next to no discussion on the store.if people have clothes to sell and/or cheap, they will find it.
6/7/2011 10:58:50 AM
no u
6/7/2011 4:31:48 PM
bump bump
6/7/2011 5:33:57 PM
i'm one of the people that says downtown charlotte to subtly annoy charlotte people
6/7/2011 6:14:33 PM
when does this shit open?
6/7/2011 6:58:01 PM
^^if i hear someone say they're going Uptown I assume they're going to the Cabaret
6/7/2011 8:12:23 PM

6/7/2011 8:42:11 PM

6/7/2011 9:02:52 PM

6/27/2011 5:45:12 PM
anyone have success here? i have a pair of shorts i bought out of state at gap awhile ago but when i tried them on again back here at home i didn't like them as much as i did in the store. i was thinking about taking them there so i'd at least get something for them.
6/27/2011 6:00:14 PM
I want them to open now I need some new threads
6/27/2011 6:01:13 PM
out of state? wtf just take them back to any gapit's a corporation, thats part of the benefit of shopping there-- you can return stuff at any store
6/27/2011 6:03:51 PM
i don't have the tags on it or receipt and it was from an outlet. i'd rather drive to one of these kinds of places than drive an hour to an outlet. [Edited on June 27, 2011 at 6:05 PM. Reason : ]
6/27/2011 6:04:56 PM
ah, yes. then you're stuck
