5/9/2011 1:24:51 PM

plz to move to chit chat...too many good engineer vs. architect jokes

http://architecture.lego.com/en-us/Products/architect/Default.aspxi have this one on my desk (i'm the marketing coordinator at an architectural firm).they come in a very nice box with a super nice book/instruction booklet thing. it's spiral bound on nice paper with a history of the architect, building, photos, etc. you won't get fallingwater or the farnsworth house for <$50, but the little skyscrapers & stuff are $20-40. i think the white house is right around $50.[Edited on May 9, 2011 at 3:59 PM. seems like most of the gifts are things that inspire, but i'm really looking for things that make it easier. do architecture students still need nice pens and other drafting supplies? or is everything done in cad?
5/10/2011 4:37:07 PM
*revit, not cad actually a lot of people still use cad but bim (building information modeling, software like revit) is what everybody's moving to. nobody draws on paper.things our architectural interns use everyday: computer, monitors, keyboard, mouse. sometimes the phone.
5/10/2011 4:40:17 PM
so what about an entry level wacom pad drawing device??

get him a college scholarship to go back and get a real degree. good lord almost all of the architects i've worked with are stupid or ignorant.
5/11/2011 7:29:16 AM
I guess that is why they choose to consult with you?
5/11/2011 7:46:17 AM
haha, good one. no, they don't choose to consult with me.
5/11/2011 7:54:18 AM
Get him a subscription to some sort of Architecture related magazinelike http://www.dwell.com/or maybe http://www.evolo.us/or whatever you think he might be into, I really don't know what the kids like these days
5/11/2011 7:59:21 AM
magazines are a good Idea...my personal favs... http://www.architectmagazine.com/ and http://www.shinkenchiku.net/au_e/The later (A+U) is a little expensive, but one of the better industry mags. Dwell is more of a laymans, but better than arch. digest ( ). Arch. Record is the standard, and he'll probably already have a subscription to it.
5/11/2011 12:54:36 PM
as much as i hate giving gift cards that seems like the best productivity gift i can give so far.
5/11/2011 2:53:10 PM
Those archidorks love their damn Eames chairs. If you have some serious cash, you can go for that.Or you can get them a travel gift card of some sort, because as architects, they fucking love to travel.[Edited on May 11, 2011 at 7:31 PM. Reason : sda]

Crayons. A more serious answer would be a kit of craft supplies for making scale models, like an exacto knife, straight edge, cutting mat, glue, colored pencils, and other tools of that nature.
