Depending on how I answered a couple questions I wasn't so sure about, I got Solid Liberal, Post-Modern, or Libertarian: http://people-press.org/typology/quiz/The other categories are Bystander, Disaffected, New Coalition Democrat, Hard-Pressed Democrat, Main Street Republican, and Staunch Republican; to make the typology, first the Bystanders (those who weren't registered to vote and had no intention of voting) were removed, and then the rest of the participants in the survey this quiz was excerpted from were assorted using cluster analysis into 8 groups by using scores on 9 different political scales.

sigh what a shitty, inadequate poll"where do you lie right of center?"

Your whole "I'm the most radical militant leftist in the land" shtick is boring and lame. When did you develop such an infantile political ideology anyway? You've managed to bring the whole hipster-academia-liberal-nutjob stereotype that people sort of joke about but didn't actually think really existed or took seriously into full 1080p 3d color...and I think we're matter of factly repulsed at what we see.[Edited on May 7, 2011 at 10:49 AM. What am I being ignorant of? I've seen about 5 references in the past week or so where you've made it a point to say that the current crop of (undefined) liberals aren't liberal as if we should give you some hemp award or something.

What an absurd questionnaire. With many of those "choices," both were dead wrong. The left to right political spectrum is outdated, and has largely been used to pit Americans against each other.

Some of these "Who They Are" facts are basically "Let us help you stereotype people" facts. Like the percentage that follow NASCAR. Is that important at all in this discussion?

If you look at this just slightly deeper than the immediate face value of the questions themselves, it is absolutely not a simple left/right dichotomy-type spectrum. The only reason it separates the different types into shades of red/blue is that we have 2 major political parties in the U.S., and the groups it outlines tend towards one party or the other (although many of the groups diverge significantly from the platform of the party that they are most oriented towards. That doesn't mean it is simply creating a linear spectrum, categorizing each group as varying degrees of left/right.For my part, I got categorized as a libertarian, and the descriptions of "who they are" and "what they believe" describe me exactly. This is despite the fact that, on a number of questions, I looked at the two answers and said "These are damned near equally terrible viewpoints." The "magic" isn't in the questions--they certainly aren't comprehensive, wide-ranging, or constructed to recognize subtleties/grey areas/nuances. The way that the analysis of the responses is conducted doesn't require that sort of questionnaire. Some of you may remember a thread or two I made a while back--neither of which ever really got good discussion or a satisfactory answer--about why people believe what they believe, in terms of predictive association of ideologically unrelated issues. This is addressed--at least statistically, if not philosophically or psychologically--by the "cluster analysis" of the responses.Additionally, McDanger is a huge douche.

I got Post-Modern, but I feel like several of the questions were a "false dichotomy" of sorts, for instance the "Government should do whatever it takes to protect the environment" or "The Government has gone too far in protecting the environment". My personal belief is that we should do anything that is economically feasible and that there is still much that we can do, but that middle ground is not accurately represented by the given choices. there were a couple others like that, but you will know them when you see them.

Funny how the responses have been all but exclusively "libertarian" and "post-modern". If that's at all representative of where the country will be headed with the ascent into power of our generation(s), then that's actually encouraging.Maybe someday I will get to vote again.

^^^Keep in mind that idiots enemies of freedom social conservatives are poorly represented here; almost all of us have graduated from college or will soon, so we would naturally fit into "Solid Liberal" or "Post-Modern" or "Libertarian" (mainly based on just how poorly we think of the government trying to help people, and how problematic we think racism still is).OTOH poor rural folk with little education are more likely to be socially conservative and economically liberal, like a "Hard-Pressed Democrat" or "Disaffected"; the "Staunch Republicans" are actually a little better-educated than the general public, but still they are not prominent here either.Similarly, the "Main Street Republicans" and "New Coalition Democrats" are fairly socially conservative, but they're also more likely to be out running their own small businesses or something, and also they are poorly educated.

I liked the poll. I didn't agree with about 3/4 of the responses that I was forced to give, but I think that's kinda point. They force you to choose between the lesser of two evils, and if you do that enough times, they can kinda narrow you down into a box. Of course, everybody hates getting put in a box.I'm a solid liberal. What up, nastoute!!!

Post Modern however the first question pissed me off. Religion is very important to me. I feel that a lot of what is wrong with this country is based of adherence to religion.
