oh, hi perennial bad TWW poster merbigi wanted TWWs opinionthanks for the link though
4/23/2011 7:09:33 PM
Opinions are like assholes and TWW is full them.I didn't realize that this was one of those threads that people create just to burn one. Meh. This thread will end up like all "name your favorite..." Someone will post item A, and 3 people will agree, then one person will say item A sucks and proclaim item B is superior with 3 other people agreeing, then the supporters of item A will criticize and berate item B.Cool thread.

4/23/2011 7:50:41 PM
kanki? seriously? asshole.
4/23/2011 7:52:32 PM
asshole? Kanki is a Raleigh mainstay. schools literally take kids there for field trips. you're crazy. I'm not saying its the most original thing on the planet but it's some pretty reasonably priced dank teppan style food
4/23/2011 7:55:34 PM
Kanki is good for what it is, but in no way, shape, or form is it a 'best restaurant'.
4/23/2011 7:56:55 PM
Piper's tavernAngus BarnRed DragonKankiLilly'sCooper'sCafe CarolinaRoast grillA lot of different types of places but I feel like they are all the best at what they do. Not just the best in Raleigh but some are among the best in the country if you consider the great prices they offer (for their respective class).
4/23/2011 7:59:29 PM
i think we should also mention bars
4/23/2011 8:05:51 PM
I agree on the price/value thing for sure. Raleigh restaurants are underratedKuki (closed) and Tokyo House for sushi. Waraji is up there too. I really like ruckus for pizza but Lilly's is great for toppings so it's a close call. other notables are Schiannos, Andy's and maybe stella mareChar grill (like it or not) is widely considered one of the best burger places in Raleigh. believe it or not I think Bada has the best though. Duffy's is up there. Taza grill for mediterranean. Neomode tooFavorite Italian is Amedeo's but 518 West is good too32nd Street Oyster bar is a damn good seafood restarauntThe Pit, Old Time and Cooper's have some decent QDavid's Dumpling and Noodle Bar and (hate to say it) PF Changs are the best Chinese. Jade garden and the former Duck and Dumpling are up there (also a David Mao place, along with former Mandarin House)Carolina Cafe is great but I think Village Deli is the best deli I've ever been to (see cali chicken salad or club)my overall favorite is probably Margaux's though.[Edited on April 23, 2011 at 8:09 PM. 4/23/2011 8:08:12 PM
i can't believe i didn't say ruckus. great pizza & great drink specials. i always end up there late on a saturday night.
4/23/2011 8:09:05 PM
gross. village deli sucks now. and has for awhile IMO. and the best burgers depend on the type of burger you're going for. if you want a delicious rare burger you go to someplace like PR or the times or someplace where they grind their own meat. i do like char grill but i think you have to be in the mood for their specific type of burger. mojos is along the same lines. i think piccola and wildflour have the best pizza.i think places like cafe tiramisu and caffe luna murder amedeos and 518.i like dos taquitos for best fancy/upscale mexican. i am not sure what my fav asian place is...i haven't been super impressed with anywhere. places like david's are good but i'm never blown away.
4/23/2011 8:17:23 PM
I like Sushi Tsune.Thai Villa used to be pretty good, but it hasn't seemed the same the past few times.
4/23/2011 8:20:52 PM
4/23/2011 8:24:13 PM
the best burger i have ever had as at tribeca tavern on fall of neuse
4/23/2011 8:25:49 PM
Cookout
4/23/2011 8:42:23 PM
Carolina Ale House would be in my top 10 for "Raleigh" area...great variety and I really can't go wrong with anything I get there...the nachos alone are worth the trip...great burgers as wellMy other go-to places are Kanki, Cheesecake Factory, On the Border, Pit, La Cocina mexican restaurant (apex, garner, clayton, may be one in raleigh?)Yeah I realize some of those are "chains" but before I get blasted, a lot of the people I met in college were from towns that did not have those type restaurants so it was a treat to them.I also like Mellow Mushroom...the one in Raleigh is the best one i've eaten at...one in Wilmington doesn't taste the same

Best Steak House: Vinnie's on Six Forks (I like it better than the Angus Barn and Sullivans, never had Ruth's Chris tho)Best Italian: Cafe Tiramisu on Falls of Neuse
4/24/2011 12:57:11 AM
The gf and I are really big fans of Sitti, downtown.
4/24/2011 2:00:38 AM
Italian - Bella MonicaPizza - Lilys, though I eat at Ruckus like 345523X more often and love their pizza (and drink specials, and sandwiches etc)Steak - SullivansMediterranean - Solomons, JasmineBrunch - Oxford? Don't get out much for brunch Overly flirtatious waitresses - SammysSoul Food - Larry's KitchenBBQ - Old Time, Q-Shack, the Pit > Coopers (yeah i said it)Shitty Service but good food - Gourmet FactoryLate night eats - Cookout (dur)Seafood - um, i got nothing on this one. drive east and hope for the best. Never could get into 42nd street. Buy it and cook yourself.Thai - Open to suggestions. Always liked Thai Garden off Wake Forest tho...Nachos, burgers, all around - Raleigh TimesAsian - Shabashabu is good...haven't been in a while tho.Big City Bagels and Cafe is quickly becoming a favorite too.
4/24/2011 3:04:42 AM
never been to Taramisu or Luna actually so I may be wrong on Italian. I sense some North Raleigh blood ITT merbig did call the direction of this thread, but it wasn't a profound prediction. I have a habit of posting in these "best in Raleigh" threads because I'm a foodie and because I'm from here .
4/24/2011 3:56:39 AM
^ You're a "foodie" that says Amedeo's does anything close to good Italian food and "32nd Street" is good seafood. For fuck's sake, man, just stop. Hell, I generally loathe people who call themselves a "foodie" and you are giving those other people who have a shred of taste, when it comes to cuisine, a bad name.
4/24/2011 4:11:31 AM
I personally never get tired of Chubby's, Mojoe's, and Gypsy's Shiny Diner. Basically, anything with a possessive proper noun in its name is good eats.

Bass Lake in holly springs is better than village draft house
4/24/2011 9:03:55 AM
Cook out is very low quality college kid food. Theres no way its better than Char grill.
4/24/2011 10:35:17 AM
best italian goes to either bella monica or cafe luna

I don't eat at restaurants in Raleigh...If I like a restaurant then that means at least one person is into that restaurant... and that's just too mainstream for me...

^ You don't know a god damned thing about palates or taste. If you did you wouldn't be eating at mainstream restaurants.
