I'm trying to test a worst cast scenario for thermal management. Are there any programs out there that will try to max a cpu for a specified amount of time? I'd like to run a CPU at 80%+ load for 36 hours.

I'm assuming on a windows machine and yes there are a number of free utilities that do this. I can't remember the name of the program I used before but a quick google search should give multiple results...

I always use Prime95 to do burn in and stress tests. Found here: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/

The program is trying to locate merseinne primes. It's processor intensive, lol.

However I'm not sure you can just select it to run at 80%, I think it's 100% or nuttin.

The program I used was RealTemp. There was a built in utility to load the CPU down in undefined increments.

We use the linpack prep to stress Linux machines. Not sure if they have a MS version.

If your comp survives Intel BurnTest, it will survive anything.
