total snooze fest up thereeverything is a 15 minute waste of time from everything else -but at least I get to rest easy knowing that my frivolous gas usage undermines both my financial well-being and the security of my nationevery bar in the area is like every other bar - same boring beers and the same boring foodthe music, the decor, the bar ware is all the sameits a culture of DUIs and obesity - if you don't have one you're getting the other (some people are champs and shoot for both!)say what you will about the shitbag hipsters (and they ARE shitbags) at least when they ride their fixed gear drunk the only person likely to get killed is THEM

^^ LOL, exactly. We get it Snewf. Everyone in Raleigh is fucking stupid, drives everywhere, is fat (like you), ignorant, uncultured, etc.You could always leave...[Edited on April 14, 2011 at 9:42 AM. Reason : ...]
4/14/2011 9:41:57 AM
What exactly constitutes "North Raleigh"?? I've been out of Raleigh too long to remember.
4/14/2011 9:43:14 AM
having moved to north raleigh within the last few months I will say its nice being within walking distance of my gym, grocery store, abc store and the dog park but I'd rather move back to the hillsborough street area. Too many yuppies up here, and the traffic is awful. Also I never hang out up here, and have grudgingly accepted that I have to drive 30 min to get to ncsu and downtown areasIf I had my pick I'd live in between Cameron Village and NCSU above PR's.[Edited on April 14, 2011 at 9:45 AM. Reason : ^ I would say anything above 440 beltline. ]
4/14/2011 9:44:03 AM
snewf, instead of whining like a bitch, go do something about it. you're just as big a part of a problem as everyone else there.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZSdrtEqcHU90sq ft apt. in manhattan for $700/month. go find yourself one.

I guess I'm missing where he said every city should look exactly like New York and we should all live in microstudio apartments
4/14/2011 10:09:29 AM
you must not have been around when he was living in new york.consider yourself lucky.
4/14/2011 10:36:35 AM
How's that relevant to this thread though?I, too, hate north raleigh. a very boring and spread out area. I avoid it like the plague. It's rare to see me further north than north hills.

i lived in N raleigh for a few years. It wasn't my favorite location, but def was cheaper than downtown and wasn't really that bad of living.Where i live now I really like

4/14/2011 10:57:03 AM
haha don't get me wrong, i'm not a huge fan of north raleigh either. it's a series of cookie cutter subdivisions co-located with cookie cutter strip malls and chain restaurants. not my cup of tea, but i get the appeal for others.[Edited on April 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Reason : .]

i think the title summed it up with SUBURBAN...it is what it is...it's a suburb...they're all like this...i'm a fan of the suburbs though...but then again i grew up in the country so only being 10 minutes from city like raleigh beats the shit out of only being 20 minutes from a grocery store but then again i'm equally a fan of living in the city...
4/14/2011 11:07:03 AM
i live 20 minutes from the grocery store now
4/14/2011 11:11:39 AM
I only go up there for golf, disc golf, and for stores that are only located up there. I can't believe it, but I'd rather go to Cary for most everything N. Raleigh has to offer. As for hanging out, I really only go to stuff around Campus (Hillsborough, MV, CV) and down town, and occasionally places around where I live (ie: places on Lake Boone or around Crabtree)

i grew up in the country. I'm a big fan of city life nowi also grew up in the midwest and surrounded by cold snowy mountains. I'm a big fan of warm coastal areasMiami i think would be perfect for me
4/14/2011 11:25:21 AM
I agree with a lot of what's being said in this thread. N. Raleigh is pretty boring, and from my location (off Chamberlain St.), it's much easier to go to Cary for any kind of shopping. N. Raleigh isn't worth the hassle. I live closer to campus now than I ever did when I was in school (save freshman year), but it's a great location.

I live in Chicago. It's nice for 23-27, but I don't want to raise my kids here. I can understand the angst of a place like North Raleigh, but people start to care less about things (beers, bars, decor?) when they get more concerned about how their kids'll turn out.

I've enjoyed living in N Raleigh. We have a greenway entrance right outside our doorstep and are central to 440 and 540. It's got its perks and pitfalls just like everywhere else...And no DUIs in our house...Zingo is very reasonable from downtown or wherever to our place.[Edited on April 14, 2011 at 11:53 AM. It's a shame people think they can only raise a family in areas completely lacking in personality and uniqueness
4/14/2011 11:55:31 AM
I've never understood why North Raleigh traffic is always so bad
4/14/2011 11:56:21 AM
Somebody's gonna have to explain the whole 'culture of DUIs' thing...
4/14/2011 11:56:24 AM
middle-aged soccer moms and their golfing husbands go out to the bars (separately) to meet up with their respective friends...these people get shit housed like none other because that's the only exciting thing going on in their lives and their only escape from the kids, dogs, and each other...but because they all live so "close" to the bars they drive...to and from...even when they clearly shouldn't...i used to see it ALL THE TIME when i worked at the bar in apexi can definitely see that more than the obesity thing[Edited on April 14, 2011 at 12:01 PM. ^^^it was a response to what Crede said. And tell me how it's not true that people have a perception that they have to move away from a city into some cookie cutter suburban hell to "settle down" and raise a family. Cookie cutter surburbia in this case being the lacking in personality I referenced.I mean power to them if they want to, I don't care.^Suburban areas are by design more spread out so getting around via car is more of a necessity. So drunk driving there (even if there aren't more instances of it) requires longer drives. You can't get around that fact.[Edited on April 14, 2011 at 12:04 PM. Reason : k]

I sure wish I could raise my daughter in one of those condos above Tobacco Road!this thread is stupid, people have different opinions on the lifestyle they want to live in. 21 year old DROD would prefer to live closer to the bar/restaurant scene. 29 year old DROD wants to have a nice house and yard where I can smoke a good cigar while I'm cooking out - I could care less if there is an Olive Garden in the shopping center around the corner from my place.
4/14/2011 12:02:43 PM
^^^the cops don't have anything else to do in suburbia but sit in parking lots and wait for these idiots to drive home it's a catch 22

wait, what area is North Raleigh if we arent including Brier Creek? Wake Forest?
4/14/2011 12:09:08 PM
it used to be defined as anything "north" of the beltline - this is prior to the development of Brier Creek. some people don't really consider Brier Creek "North Raleigh" but i do.

4/14/2011 12:13:01 PM
I always thought of it as stuff north of the beltline between Creedmoor/Glenwood and Wake Forest/Falls of Neuse. Maybe extending the rightmost boundary out to Capital. The roads I always get confused because I never travel them regularly. Lynn, Leesville, Lead Mine. Probably should toss in a few more "L" roads in that area for good measure.
4/14/2011 12:15:09 PM
i live in North West Raleigh and love it (near intersection of Lynn and Leesville and close to Glenwood). I'm in walking distance to the grocery store, gas station, bank, lowes and my favorite bar/restaurant (Lynnwood Grill which is building a new place with rooftop patio whoot whoot). I'm 15 mins from work in RTP and a $20 cab ride to downtown. i love my neighbor hood, neighbors and location. one day I would like to live further out in the country but there is plenty time for that. where i'm at now is a great place to raise a family.
