My inspection was due by today, but for some reason I missed it as I usually get a notice in the mail which is what reminds to do so. My taxes are paid, so that not the issue (if that is a possibility in the case). My question is will I be able to get the car inspected on tomorrow? Also, do you know if anywhere open tonight that would inspect the car? Thanks.[Edited on March 31, 2011 at 7:07 PM. Reason : /]

Yes if you are a day or so late its going to be okay. I think merchants is open astronomicly late but 8 is pushing it.

You can get it inspected 2 months from now...but it will still expire 12 months from when you were supposed to get it done. You run the risk of getting a ticket by driving with an expired registration. However, I have never heard of these being anything other than a "fix-it ticket" (i.e., once you get it inspected, take proof down to the courthouse and they'll throw your ticket out, like it never happened). That's a needless pain in the ass, though. You might as well go ahead and get it inspected sooner rather than later, but I wouldn't jump through my ass trying to find some place to do it tonight. If you can do it tomorrow, great. If not, just go somewhere this weekend...it'll be fine.It also doesn't matter where you go. It's the same price at every inspection station.

No such thing as a fix it ticket anymore.

^are we playing the semantics game this morning?

after driving the roommates car for a weekend a little while back i can confirm that they do in fact still have fix-it tickets for registration (maybe inspection, can't remember if i was cited for that too).

There is no such thing as a inspection in MT! ahhh this place rocks!

Seedless, with the new law, if you have not had your car inspected, you will not be able to renew your registration. So on top of driving around a car that is past inspection, you will eventually be driving a car with expired tags. With that said, your inspection runs out on the last day of the month of your number on your license plate, and your inspection runs out 2 weeks after that (2 week grace period).
4/1/2011 12:51:04 PM
^you got that backwards. You have a 2 week grace period for registration. No grace period for inspections. And I'm speaking from recent personal experience.

Thats what I meant. It was a screw-up.I had to get a waiver last year. The check engine light, on my 97 Z3 2.8 with 260k miles is costing me over $1000 to fix this week. Super pissed. The ONLY reason I'm not out shopping for a new car is that I am DETERMINED to lease the Volt (was contacting by a dealership last week for ordering), and I need a car to make up the shortage of miles on the lease. Dont want to buy it outright for $40k.[Edited on April 1, 2011 at 3:56 PM. Reason : .]

I misplaced my registration, do I need it to get inspected? I have my renewal slip and my insurance card, is that enough?
4/6/2011 1:24:08 AM
^^That sucks man. Too bad you don't own a '95 Z3 ^I'm pretty sure you have to have the registration card. To see if there's an alternative call up an inspection shop.

They've taken my old registration before when I couldn't find my current one.
4/6/2011 12:26:56 PM
I called the dealership and they said they didn't need my registration, i just think it makes their job easier.
4/6/2011 1:42:57 PM
You don't need registration anymore. Its just easier for them.

i live in a non-emissions county now and the assholes around here wouldn't do my inspection b/c my registration had an emissions county listed on it. i had to pay $10 or $15 for a new registration card with the new county on it just so they could inspect it and i could renew my registration the next day.fuckin stupid.
