I have a security camera system installed on my house. The DVR system is in the attic. It needs an internet connection. Right now I have a 50 foot ethernet cable from my attic to the first floor of the house to my router.I have an extra router a Belkin model # F5D8230-4 Version 1002. How would I convert it to a switch? This would allow me to use it to get interent in my attic for the DVR system. Thanks!

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=convert+router+to+switchIf none of that works, just buy a switch and save the router. Aren't they < $10?

... it already has a switch built in. Just plug your input into one of the LAN ports and the other 3 will be added to the LAN also. Ignore the WAN port, and at worst disable your DHCP.

^ think I tired that before and it was still spitting out IP addresses. Just disable DHCP and give it a go.

Shit, sorry I meant bridge not switch.

I think for that you'd have to flash the router with DD-WRT or some other firmware...and judging from this, your version isn't supported: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

his is on the list. It does say you must replace the mini-pci card with a broadcom or other compatible card though.

at that rate he should probably just buy a linksys/buffalo for $20 which is readily supportedbut the way i'm reading this:

Just buy one. I converted an old wireless router I had to a switch, but in cases of power loss or iirc just randomly, it would reset itself and start wirelessly routing again, confusing almost every wifi device in my house.

I want to be able to use the router to pickup a wireless signal from my current router and have a hard wire going to the DVR.The 50 feet ethernet cord draping from the attic looks like shit.
