With milk steamer.Any recommendations?
2/12/2011 11:55:37 AM
if you want one, get one. that's my recommendation.
2/12/2011 11:56:58 AM
That is some life changing advice, dude. I'll have to stop and reflect upon that. What would you say if I also said I'd like it to have a stainless steel finish?
2/12/2011 12:02:05 PM
that you should probably only look at machines with SS finishes?
2/12/2011 12:03:24 PM
sorry i have no useful advice. just do what's in your heart!

You want to try to get a pump-driven unit like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Krups-XP2010-Combination-Coffee-Espresso/dp/B000FBKQ0SThey cost a bit more than the regular ones, but you get higher-quality espresso.http://www.amazon.com/Delonghi-BCO264B-Combo-Coffee-Espresso/dp/B0000CDCMQThis looks like the best priced one I could find. I guess it depends on how big you want your drip coffee carafe to be?[Edited on February 12, 2011 at 12:25 PM. Reason : ][Edited on February 12, 2011 at 12:26 PM. Reason : ]

theDuke866.... First to act on the DADT repeal
2/12/2011 12:33:33 PM
Yeah I suggest a pump also. I got a regular one, and they are fine for cappuccino, but the espresso isn't as good.
2/12/2011 12:38:26 PM
whats your price range? given your past spending history and penchant for nice toys, probably aren't looking for some $150 deal that does the job. (no offense to be taken by this, i appreciate nice things too!)i'd go high end. nothing beats a bomb ass cup of espresso!
2/12/2011 5:06:23 PM
haha, I'm sure that thing is bad ass...but I can't handle $2000 for a coffee maker, haha.I'm not torn up about the different between a hundred and a few hundred, as long as I get what I want...but I couldn't sleep at night knowing I had a $2000 coffee machine downstairs!
2/12/2011 8:05:05 PM
A 2k coffee maker is baller son. Think of the trim you could pull with that thing. Instant panty dropper as soon as you bring a chick home.
2/12/2011 8:08:52 PM
If I've already brought the chick home, I'm thinking that I'm not gonna need the $2000 coffee machine.
2/12/2011 8:31:08 PM
I want a combination Pizza Hut - Taco Bell
2/12/2011 8:54:40 PM
get the $2k machine and open a drive through window at your house. put the local sbux out of business and make your money back!!
2/12/2011 11:01:45 PM
If you want a dank espresso machine you need to hit craigslist or eBay for a business that went under. Get one that needs 220v power and you'll be set. Our local coffee shop got started with a $4000 machine that went on craigslist for $500 from a failed business.
2/12/2011 11:13:39 PM
Well, I ended up not going for either stainless or a combination-type machine, and instead buying a red DeLonghi EN660.

if you want one, don't get one. denying our material urges makes you a better person. that's my recommendation.unless it's gotta digital controls with an lcd screen or something. lord knows I can't resist buying a damn thing if it has a processor in it
5/7/2011 11:36:20 AM
^^ fuck, wish I had known. What I ordered would probably draw the ire of a real purist who is well-versed in the art if coffee. Oh well, I think that it will be pretty good, and better than I could do without spending the time to get skilled at drawing shots of espresso.

Fucking Williams Sonoma sucked me in! We were doing some registry returns/exchanges the other day and the Nespresso lady got to us. We're going to see how much Williams Sonoma money we have left over after the wedding (should be enough to by several espresso machines...but we need to see if there's anything else we need first), but I think I talked the fiancee in to getting one of these:Does anyone have one and can share your thoughts??Before anyone starts...this size is probably our only option. We don't have a ton of counter space, so a restaurant one is out of the question.

I have a Nespresso machine. It isn't that particular model. It works fine, though. What would you like to know?

I have an old basic and crude Krups I got 5 years ago that does all three, it's a pump style as well. Just get a good name brand one. After using the hell out of it for several months initially we use it like 4 times a year now. My wife said it makes a baller hot chocolate with the milk steamer for winter time.
10/3/2013 12:59:03 PM
^^ I don't have a "regular" coffee maker, but I do have a French press for making normal coffee.Nespresso is very easy; you insert a capsule kind of like a K-cup machine (except for smaller). You turn it on, let it heat up, and then hit the button to make coffee once it illuminates to show it's ready. Mine has a built in water reservoir that you have to refill every once in a while. It also has a milk steaming attachment and a removable milk reservoir that you can take off and keep in the refrigerator.
10/3/2013 7:24:29 PM
I'm not a big fan of Keurig, which is obviously the big goto with K-cup models...But my girlfriend's relatives and parents all have Nespresso machines and wow, holyshit they're good. I mean yeah have I had espresso from high-end machines that was better? Yes, but not at that price range (not really even close) and definitely not that easy for an average person to maintain. I'm not a huge fan of having to buy K-Cups because the price does add up, but if you buy the Nespresso pods from the company, I think you can get them at like $0.50 a cup. The purple pods (don't know the name) are by and far the best. Her relatives won't even travel without taking their Nespresso machine. When we go to their place for Christmas, I'm basically glued to it.

This is money and makes just as good as my moms 700 dollar machine. 30 dollars is all you need to spend to make good espresso. unless you are just buying it to show it off to people. not saying it will last a long time (i've used mine 5 times a week for 3 months and its still good)http://www.amazon.com/GAU-18200-Elecric-Espresso-Cappuccino-Frother/dp/B00164W8HM

I think I'm going to get one of the Nespresso machines with the removable Milk reservoir. Is it pretty easy to find nespresso capsules?
10/4/2013 11:08:11 AM
They made it sound like you should order yours from nespresso. When you order a certain amount, it's free shipping.
10/4/2013 11:14:56 AM
theDuke866, you said you got a DeLonghi in 2011 earlier in the thread. What happened to it? Did it not last, or did you just not like it?
10/4/2013 11:26:26 AM
go to the coffee shop on you bicycle. the only people that should be buying coffee machines and breadmakers and shit live in like Montana 50 miles from town.how about a juicer review to get you in the mood?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ba9nHBgpRo?

I'm not a big fan of the all-in-ones, as if part of it breaks, then you have to trash the whole thing. (I say this as the owner of a coffee maker with built-in grinder, but that was more about counter space...)We ended up getting one of the basic, but not super-cheap, Krups espresso makers. So far, so good, and produces quite good results after a few "getting the hang of it" cups. If you use the milk steamer/frother attachment though--beware!--make sure you clean it well after each use. I was a little slack about it, thinking that the steam would kill any lurking microbes, and while that did indeed happen, I ended up clogging up the steam holes after a number of uses. Pain In The Ass to clean when that happens--just make sure you rinse and wipe well when you're done.

If you are going to spend the cash get a good one and not something that takes k cup things. I have this one and it is great because it grinds the perfect amount and they have double walled cups to make pulling a good shot stupid easy. It is built like a tank, the steamer works great, it has a self cleaning feature, and I never have had any issues in the three years that I have owned it. Start every day with a quad americano and it is fantastic. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CH9QWOU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1380978881&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

Also, aside from being only like 30 dollars. The one I posted is easier to operate than the ones like ^ that cost 500 dollars more. Unless it has a timer function it pretty much does the same thing as the imusa. I can manually tamp the grinds to get perfect crema everytime which takes more time iwth my moms expensive machine. Also, just buy it anyway. The worst case scenario is you bought it and don't like it and wasted 30 dollars. It is likely that this will save you 500 dollars at least. Why not give it a try?I sound like an imusa salesperson but read the reviews. It doesn't seem like a water pressure esprresso machine would give you a qualityresult but it does.
10/5/2013 10:55:23 AM
Easier? Auto grind, tamp it down, press a button, viola. I get the price difference is significant but it doesn't get much easier than that
10/5/2013 11:01:02 AM
yeah so i left out the seperate autogrinder for 11.99

The DeLonghi unit that I got was a factory refurb.
10/5/2013 11:54:22 PM
a french press is all you need. you can make coffee and expresso easily with it.
10/5/2013 11:58:13 PM
^Except that you can't technically make espresso with a french press. Obviously can still make strong and tasty coffee though. I used a french press forever and recently have been messing with a pourover like a Chemex.
10/6/2013 1:03:58 AM
its one of those fashion things that people have to spend thousands of dollars on to feel good about themselves
10/6/2013 1:11:00 AM
like cars and guns and houses amirite.
10/6/2013 1:19:06 AM
not guns. more expensive guns kill more people quicker. Unless you are running a coffee shop or mary kay then no.
10/6/2013 1:22:06 AM
French press can't make espresso. Espresso is forced through fine grounds under high pressure and has a distinctive foam on top. Also, if you used an espresso grind in a French press, you'd have a mess with a bunch of coffee grounds in your coffee. A French press uses a coarse grind. Now, could you coarsely grind strong beans and make strong coffee in a French press? Yeah. It would just be strong coffee, though.[Edited on October 6, 2013 at 1:53 AM. Reason : ]
