TurnOne ( http://www.turn1motorsports.com/index.php ) is doing a mixed class week 3/19 and 3/20. Their rates are pretty damn low and staff are real friendly. Their CRs on the bike side aren't super helpful on track like NESBA but they keep it mostly safe out there. All the money you talk about spending on car/bike? Spend some at the track learning to drive it. You will enjoy your vehicle a lot more, or realize it's a poser ride and wise up CMP is cheap, close to raleigh, and has free power in the paddock. You will get more track time and SPACE than just about any other organization with turnone. Who's in?

Holy moly. 450? What a rip. How much seat time?
2/4/2011 5:06:58 PM
~7 30min sessions per dayyou know you got them solo prices though
2/4/2011 5:08:46 PM
Thinking about doing a one day. Might be able to swing it. Should be fun.

How do you qualify to go solo? Bc I'm pretty sure that would apply to me. In which case I may be interested!
2/6/2011 9:17:17 AM
Youd most likely need a license for solo/T&TEven if you didn't need one, I wouldn't recommend it unless you've been driving solo on track for a handful of races within a reasonable amount of time. If you Havnt been on track in a while, some clubs will put you with an instructor. Just looked at their site. Apparently solo is just "level 4" DE (or however many levels they have) and super solo you need a license. I would call and ask. [Edited on February 6, 2011 at 10:41 AM. Reason : ]
2/6/2011 10:35:50 AM
even at DE prices, you're only paying ~$1/min. I feel like that's standard pricing for cars.[Edited on February 6, 2011 at 11:30 PM. Reason : i mean we're not talking about trim tape here]
2/6/2011 11:22:02 PM
Damn, 7 30 minute sessions per day? I could put a real hurting on my tires with track time like that, lol.
2/7/2011 8:36:32 AM
its not really $1/mineven VIR is cheaper than this. and thats saying something.
2/7/2011 9:40:04 AM
^^ Yeah, I did at least that much for 2 days this weekend in the Z06. I think I went about halfway through a set of tires. Maybe more like 1/3.I think Turn 1 is priced in line with everywhere else. $450 is for 2 days with an instructor the entire time, and a good bit of track time. You can get cheaper track days, but I think they either have less instruction or less track time. My instructor has taught at lots of different places, and he said that he views Turn 1 as some of the most bang for your buck in the world of HPDE.Recommend that we stop this thread and keep it all in the thread that I started for this exact purpose.
2/7/2011 11:12:05 AM
^&^^ CMP through the Porsche club of America was $325 ($350 for late registration) for 2 days with an instructor. Each day you got 3 20 minute sessions and 1 30 minute session.Roughly $1.81/minute of driving.
2/7/2011 11:44:28 AM
Yeah, see that's a lot less money, but also a lot less track time.
2/7/2011 5:46:55 PM
I more made this thread to call out the garage. I see so much bench racing and at the same time most of the actual mods installed end up being some bullshit like tint or interior trim. This a $CHEAP event with a lot of value that lets every vehicle (I do bikes, bruh) and skill level come out at one time. We can call it a grown up garage meet I can't promise it'll be more fun than runnin gronke's car down the steps in the dan allen deck, but I can promise it'll be cooler than bench racing and installing lame mods.We got money now, time to step up the hijinx
2/7/2011 7:41:31 PM
Well, I already had this weekend on my calendar. I can't promise I'll make it, but my intention is to be there.
2/7/2011 7:49:46 PM
Lol. Nothing is cheap about a $450 weekend that'll turn into a $600 weekend. Half these cars won't even last until the second day if driven properly.
2/7/2011 8:37:59 PM
i'll stick to NCRSCCA PDX's for $150/day kthxbye
2/7/2011 8:40:42 PM
That's all well and good to get a little taste for cheap, but it's about the same as turn 1 per amount of track time you get.If you are having to drive 200-300 miles and pay for a hotel room the night before, that PDX deal becomes less and less of a bargain. Not saying I won't do it...just saying you're comparing apples to oranges.[Edited on February 7, 2011 at 9:15 PM. Reason : Actually, it's more than turn 1, per minute on track]
2/7/2011 9:10:57 PM
there are some cheap bitches in the Garage
2/7/2011 9:40:49 PM
smoothcrim, the thing is...most of us that post in "track threads" DO track our cars. The people you want to call out aren't posting in here. And you track a motorcycle, which costs less to track than cars...i mean really dude what the hell? If I do this event I need to order some new front pads. Hmmm...[Edited on February 7, 2011 at 10:41 PM. Reason : k]
2/7/2011 10:36:41 PM
Per minute/$ is not a good way to judge the "value" of a track event. If you want quality track time, go w/PCA or Chin Motorsports. Even though I get invited to drive or even get paid to go to certain events, I've paid $500/entry + lodging and other expenses to do certain events w/certain groups. Anyway, I'm probably going to do a few events coming up here and I'd be happy to let you know the dates but doing events that share track time w/motorcycles is not high on my list. Since I'm not competing for a prize, the only draw for me is to enjoy myself. That said, I would like to go to an event w/garage folk -but then I already do that. Get a car, we'll get to do many events w/you.
2/7/2011 11:43:43 PM
sharing time with bikes was not bad. They'd run the bikes for 20 minutes, then open track for cars for 40 minutes.[Edited on February 7, 2011 at 11:47 PM. Reason : I think I did at least 7x 20-minute sessions on both days, and got a 30+ minute session one time.]
2/7/2011 11:47:00 PM
i have a pair of Sidi Vertigo's in size 11 if anybody's looking for some track boots. never worn, they've been sitting in my garage since last summer.
2/8/2011 12:12:59 AM
^ those boots are tempting but breaking in boots is a huge pain (pun intended)so, what's a car with cheap-ish wear items that's an acceptable track learning tool and still a plush(ish) daily driver? I'm not gonna have 2 cars, a van, and 3 bikes. Also, rough estimate, what does a car track weekend cost? ^^^ do a turnone event and let me drive your car in the DE session once and you can drive my bike though, by that time it will be setup for a 225lbs rider. might be rough on CMPs surface^^^^ I followed that thread for a while, but it seemed like very little actual activity and a lot of dickridin When the wera season is over and nesba events aren't very desirable, I had planned on doing dirt/supermoto but haven't gotten a setup yet. I could spend that same money on a car but it would have to be comparable in cost and be really damn fun. Dirt stuff makes me a better tarmac rider. Car stuff...?

that suspension looks mad soft, in what looks like oak tree[Edited on February 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Reason : lemme hold it for a couple laps ]
2/8/2011 9:48:59 AM
It's def not soft. The car weighs a shit ton, and dubcaps doesn't let it lazy about...but it's not soft.
2/8/2011 9:57:50 AM
thinking about it, that probably wasn't the best picture to post as i'm pretty sure the front left shock was on the way out in that picture. i replaced it a few weeks ago because it was blown. in all seriousness the e36 is probably way to go.
2/8/2011 10:04:25 AM
I'm bringing my Volvo station wagon
2/8/2011 10:12:55 AM
we got K in a swede body hauler, me on the ninja, anyone else?
2/21/2011 10:42:53 AM
Ugh I'm out. Any money I'd spend at the track next month is going to a lawyer in VA to take care of a speeding ticket I got Saturday.FML
2/21/2011 10:54:49 PM
sounds like a job for a credit card
2/24/2011 2:58:29 AM
Oh I've already got plenty of CC debt I'm paying down. One of the big reasons I'm not at the track more often.
2/24/2011 9:40:26 AM
we got Ahmet, theDuke866, and myself. who else wants in on this?
3/17/2011 9:04:24 AM
speeding ticket + lawyer = "defective speedometer" fine + court costs = $356 in total You guys have fun!
3/17/2011 11:22:14 AM

3/17/2011 9:19:08 PM
Anybody got some extra tracky pads for an e36 m3?
