if a sign up for a class which has restrictions, missing a pre-req, but it still lets me in, will the teacher find out and can drop me?

i don't think any chass courses should have restrictions probably why they still let you in is b/c no upper level courses really can build on lower level ones, or need them for that matter, its not like math, science, etc.

you really should get into the habit of asking your instructors these kinds of questions

they probably could find out this kind of info and drop you, but it really sounds like more trouble than its worth. if you tell them, they may drop you, but pre-reqs/co-reqs are often not hard and fast requirements.

I took a couple of classes that I didn't have the prereq for. However, I was lost on some of the topics that were taught in the prereq class.

Are we ignoring that foreign languages are in CHASS?

I thought this changed where the new system wouldn't even let your register for courses w/o the prereqs.

^ Each department controls whether they want to enforce the catalog prerequisites. For every class section, there is a check box the department scheduling officer uses that turns on or off the prerequisite checking for that section.

For certain programs, such as Sociology, there is a research methods class (SOC 300) that is a pre-req for a lot of the 300/400 level courses. However, it didn't seem like much of the material covered in the methods class was greatly utilized in the courses that I took for which 300 was a pre-req. It's helpful to have that knowledge, but as long as one knew how to search databases/journals, I can't see how not having 300 would be a major problem.

I would be more concerned about a professor finding out how much of a slacker/dumbass you really are.

And I suppose you feel qualified, through your intense study in class and hard work in life, to make that judgment. Truly, you have an amazing intellect.
