Who has used a service like these: http://www.dog-dna.com/ http://www.wisdompanel.com/?I'm thinking for $80 it'd be cool to know what's in my mutt. What say you TWW?

i need to do one for my husky

I wanted to do it for my dog, because she was some sort of Chow/Lab and possibly Weimaraner mix, but never go around to it. Honestly, for only $80 bucks it wouldn't be a bad idea, consdering all the stupid shit I spend my money on.

Would have been interesting to do for my mutt, but we had to put her down today.

^ i'm sorryi probably wouldn't get my dogs tested unless i won the lottery or something. i did pay for a dna test for myself w/ http://www.23andme.com though. i still have a few more weeks before i get the results. you get ancestry as well as health/carrier status stuff.[Edited on January 18, 2011 at 3:36 PM. ^Yea, sucks. Her stomach was twisted or some shit. Caused the gas to build up and cut off blood flow. She was a pretty big dog and about 11 years old, but they said her body temp was down to 95, she needed emergency surgery which would have to be done in Wilson or Cary, would cost $1-$2k and was less than 50/50 on her making it through the surgery.Worst part was I got up ass early to go to work and she was just whining a little bit. By 10 am she was gone. Never got to see her, or be there when she died. Hell nobody from the family was, as my wife had to drop her off on the way to work to see what was wrong.[Edited on January 18, 2011 at 3:40 PM. Reason : ]

There was a report on one of the shows on WUNC about these. I think they used three different services and got back three different results. The consensus was that these services aren't very reliable, but are getting there.

Sorry about your dog, 11 years for a big dog isn't a bad run though.

^^^^^ woah that looks pretty cool (and scary). thanks for posting.]

You could do it for less through the AKChttp://www.akc.org/store/products/index.cfm?category_cde=DNA&product_view=thumb

I can think of a million better things to do with $80.

My girlfriend's family took one of these tests, seemed pretty "all across the board" to me.Heard the same from other sources, and the reports of the tests just not being reliable. So I would never really feel motivated to do this for my dog, even though we're not sure entirely what she is (beagle, hound is what we got).

Yeah you'd be better off giving the money to me in exchange for some work around the house.

i had it done...they came to school and gave students a discount .....my dog, who for the longest time was a "shepherd mix" is in fact part shiba inu, part finnish spitz, and part english red and white setter. i can definately see shiba inu and spitz.....not too sure about the setter though [Edited on January 18, 2011 at 7:36 PM. Reason : . we did it through the wisdom panel. the woman who came seemed pretty legit in her info..]

After having had this done, I am conclusively not a dog.But my brother had it done where they freeze the DNA to bring the dog back after life, or so they claim. I don't know about DNA testing on dogs....kind of a shady practice if you ask me. AKC is a mafia gayer and poorer than the AQHA.[Edited on January 18, 2011 at 7:55 PM. Reason : ftw]

i think my dog is a coyote/shepherd mix... could this test tell me if it is? Have to be careful though... a lot of the tests are just designed to prove lineage, and not to figure out breeds.
