When in Hawaii, we had a 1TB WD external hard drive connected via our Airport Extreme serving as our HDD for Time Machine on my macbook and imac.During our move to CT, I knew we wouldn't get our stuff (read: iMac) for a while (months), so I grabbed the external HDD to take with us.Now I'm trying to access the drive, but it is directly connected to my macbook via USB.The computer can't even see it.Do any of you guys have any knowledge that would help?I just don't want to wait until our crap gets here. Thanks!

Sounds like your drive is not mac compatible, but your drive had network support that allowed the mac.Have you tried hooking it to a pc? Or a wireless router? Either of those should solve your problems.

Let's now transition this thread into:How do I upgrade my PS3 hard drive?
1/23/2011 3:39:25 PM
^a fairly easy process.-Log into PSN and backup your trophy/achievements. Game->trophy->(triangle button)->sync to server-Attach an external hard drive (must be formatted to FAT32)-Backup current drive to external. Settings->system settings->backup utility-Remove old drive-Replace with new drive (5400RPM seems to be most compatible and maintains warranty)-Repeat process in reverse. After restoring your data log in and sync to restore your trophy information-Put old drive in case for future use.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNSytaL9hnIhttp://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/backuputility.htmlhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007605%20600003341&IsNodeId=1&name=5400%20RPMhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182138

sweet...thx...saw a video that looks pretty simpleI'm guessing that second newegg link is the case for the spare HDD once it is replaced?

^does it not work? I think I copied it right. It should be a Rosewill (newegg house brand) USB2.0 case for the old drive ~$15

works fine...just confirming

7200rpm 16mb cache is the way to go. much faster

Time Machine is back on...hooked the hard drive to a USB to the Airport Extreme.I think I'll be able to partition some of the hard drive space to use to xfr the PS3 files via Backup Utility. Now just to figure out what size 5400 drive I want.

Just bought the Hitachi Travelstar 0S02857 500 GB Internal Hard Drive 5400 rpm - 2.5" for $58.50 from http://www.buy.com.Will wait on getting the enclosure.

1/27/2011 2:34:25 AM
can't remember
1/27/2011 5:04:59 PM
^^would that matter? Do they cut power to USB devices or something?
1/27/2011 11:17:10 PM
hooked up the external to the iMac and could access it just fine...formatted a partition to FAT so I could dump my PS3 files on it.got my 500GB HDD for the upgrade today.installed it into the PS3, powered it on, and nothing.did a little research, and there seems to be a "problem" with PS3 firmware 3.56 in that it doesn't recognize an upgrade HDD...hopefully there will be a fix within the week.in the meantime, I downloaded the PS3 Media Server onto my Macbook and it's awesome!will work on either1) burning my DVDs to my Macbook, or2) burning my DVDs to the external HDD and attempting to access it via PS3 MSanyway...it'll give me something to do while I wait for 3.57 to come out.
