this is the thread for all things art.with that in mind, I am looking a sculpture to go above our corner fireplace...would somewhere like the flea market be the best bet?

The flea market would be best if you're looking for a three legged horse or aunt Jemina statue. What did you have in mind?

I've gotten lots of cool stuff at the flea market. We got a giant clock for above our mantle and two really cool gold praying angel statues for the mantle as well. I'd check it out if you don't really have anything specific in mind.

^I misread that. Badly. To contribute, I've had hit and miss luck at the flea market. I haven't really been on the lookout for any sculptures there though - if you have any luck let me know.

what does the space actually look like? what sort of dimensions are you working with? are you opposed to hanging anything on the walls above the fireplace -- is that even realistic with the way it's set up?I ask because i'd consider making something custom for you if you're interested (for a reasonable price).[Edited on January 11, 2011 at 10:11 AM. If you are going to hang art you like or has value above a real fireplace, be cognizant of smoke damage from the fire. My friend is an art conservator, and half of her business comes from old paintings that are damaged from this.

smoking also leaves nasty brown tar on art

Anyone have recommendations on local (Charlotte/Raleigh) artists that can do custom work? I have an idea of a painting I want (basic, cityscape from a very specific viewpoint) and would like to get a quote and commissioned.]

be more specific, what medium are you looking for?

What do you do with your art? Tell me it doesn't just hang on a wall in your room. You know, there comes a point with art where you're just paying for the name.I have a scarface poster in my room, it works just as well as your painting.
