With Florida State's recent losses to Auburn and at VT today, and a likely loss against Duke coming up, they'll be hungry for a win when we come to play them next week. Hopefully we can take care of business vs BC.

Scott Wood has been saving all his points the last few games for @FSU. he will win the FSU game by himself.

he will probably only have 4 points Vs BC.

Always the optimist, State wins 78-72 and Wood and Tracy explode to lead scorers.

UNC is definitely not a public ivy, either.

For the record, whenever people discuss a public ivy it is "usually" in reference to Cal Berkeley, Illinois, UT-Austin and Wisconsin if i recall correctly ( but of course I have no wiki reference to back that up).

Anyways, I digress.

Go State!

Another Digression, why do announcers almost painfully spit out North Carolina State, instead of saying State, Pack, or NC State. They sound like they are referring to a prison.

This is a game thread for NCSU and BC. Not a debate if unc-ch is "public ivy" or not. Please stay on topic.

I hope we don't start the game over confident and lazy. We aren't consistant enough to over look anyone.

If we start this game over confident and lazy then Lowe needs to be fired, midseason. It's not going to happen though because it's a ridiculous notion.

It really is tough to say what is going to happen. All I know is that we'll have a much clearer picture of where we stand in the ACC after this game, and definitely after this week. If we want to be taken seriously early on, we need to hand BC a loss by about 10 imo. That's definitely doable, especially given the team high someone mentioned earlier.

I'm just glad how we really get to ease in to conference play with a home game against a shitty WF, and an away game at probably the least intimidating place in the ACC.

It may not be intimidating, but not many teams go way up there and win after the long travel.

A win here would be stealing one we shouldn't win IMO.

Anyone going to this game? Or in the Boston area and might be interested? I can't quite convince myself to go by myself, but I usually end up focusing on the game and not my company anyway.

Someone tell me to go.

It will be interesting to see how we match up with Reggie Jackson. I wouldn't be surprised to see CJ Williams get significant playing time as a defensive stopper if Brown is getting overpowered.

Yeah, I hope what we saw from Williams against wake wasn't a one time thing. He definitely proved that he can be a dynamic finisher near the basket. I loved watching him play over the weekend.

Lowe mentioned it in his press conference, but I think what CJW has realized is that he's not actually a three point shooter, not now anyways. He hit about every midrange jumpshot he took and (its lamented all over the place how the 3 and 4 spots have really stopped shooting 12-18 foot shots anymore. Its either, force it down low, shoot a 3 or get a layup. Actually ive noticed we've seemed to really focus on getting all of our players shooting mid-range jumpshots. You also get much easier rebounds than a 3 that clanks off the rim.

Mid-range shots + Free throws = at least 3 more wins over the course of a season for any team. God forbid that teams work on pick and rolls too.

CJL seems to finally be getting into a groove about what it's like to play in college. He'll be an absolute beast if he sticks around one more year and works on all his tools.

BC's results are mind-boggling:

Lost to Yale
Beat Indiana
Barely beat UMass
Beat Providence
Beat Maryland (away)
Barely beat Bucknell (tied with 2:00 rem.)
Lost to Rhode Island
Lost to Harvard at home (blew a 1st half lead; trailed the whole 2nd half)
Beat Ga. Tech

i know it was just practice, but he couldn't miss a 3 in the Red/White 3 point contest.

agreed ^ and i even wrote that with a bit of hesitation, but i really don't think its his game, not like Wood. Also not saying he can't become more consistent and also make a lot of threes this year, but i guess it would have been better to say this is not the shot he should be looking for first, his first look will be inside the arc.

I think his best game is driving across the lane on 1-2 dribbles. He's got the size and athleticism to finish and at least draw a foul. Unfortunately, he's lucky to get about one of those per game.

Wolfpack hits the road looking for wins
Quote :
"N.C. State has won six ACC road games in the past four years. Wolfpack coach Sidney Lowe hopes his fifth team can improve its road record this week with trips to Boston College (Tuesday) and Florida State (Saturday).

State's winless in two true road games this season, at Wisconsin and at Syracuse with a win over Elon at the Greensboro Coliseum, which counts as a road win.

"Hopefully we got a taste of it, being at Wisconsin and Syracuse," Lowe said Monday. "Hopefully we'll be able to handle it."

State won ACC games at FSU and Miami last season. The Wolfpack, 1-0 in the ACC, has some momentum heading into Tuesday's game at BC. State has won five straight and posted two of its best performances of the season in handling Elon 87-72 and Wake Forest 90-69 last week.

Boston College (12-4, 2-0 ACC) has been the surprise of the ACC under first-year coach Steve Donahue. The Eagles have already beaten Maryland and Georgia Tech in the league and own impressive nonconference wins over Texas A&M and South Carolina. They also have a pair of home losses to Ivy League teams (Yale, Harvard).

Lowe expects the "good" BC to show up for Tuesday's 9 p.m. game at Conte Forum.

"They're a very good team, they have great experience," Lowe said. "[Reggie] Jackson and [Joe] Trapani have been around. Jackson has played as well as anyone in the conference."

Jackson and Trapani are two of seven scholarship players Donahue inherited from former coach Al Skinner. His up-tempo, 3-point system has been a boon to Jackson (18.9 ppg) and senior guard Biko Paris (11.1).

State beat BC 66-54 in Raleigh last March, one of the games that led to Skinner's ouster. This is the only regular-season meeting between the two teams and an important one for State.

At No. 40 in the RPI, BC is one of four ACC teams ranked in the top 50. State's 0-4 against top 50 teams this season.

Note: The threat of snow/ice in Raleigh pushed up the team's departure time from Raleigh by about three hours, Lowe said. The team hopes to beat the weather to Boston for Tuesday's game."

For reference:

5) Duke
21) UNC
33) Miami
40) Boston College
60) Virginia Tech
82) Florida State
106) NCSU
114) Clemson
117) Maryland
144) Virginia
172) Georgia Tech
253) Wake Forest

Now that bulk of non-conference is over, will these go up that much in conference play? If the season ended now, maybe 4 teams get in?

Lock: Duke
Bubble: UNC, Miami, BC, VT, FSU
Lot to do: NCSU, Clemson, Maryland
Almost no chance: UVA, GTech
Have to win ACCT: Wake

^They already played Duke so that raised it a bunch, but they did beat West Virginia

Here's KenPom's rankings which are much higher:

1) Duke
13) Maryland
21) UNC
26) VT
50) Clemson
52) FSU
55) BC
60) Miami
75) NCSU
98) GTech
99) UVA
193) Wake
