if it don't have a turbo on it from the factory, basically nothing
12/31/2010 1:02:41 AM
put gas in it, change the oil, listen to music, drive it places

^^amateurs don't use nitrous oxide. i've seen the way you drive, you've got a heavy foot.

^ I need one of these, one of the big ones. Actually, no...let's make it two.
12/31/2010 11:02:38 AM
Sell it and buy something fun. Do this fast, before it's worth 50% of it's current value in a year.

kdogg(c) is car shopping. he stepped away from a screwbaru on the lot a couple of days ago.

Get good at driving and make the bottom of the car look like a spider web and take the clowns to school that have evos. Or buy a wrecked evo and put all the parts from it on yours and have cheaper insurance.
12/31/2010 1:52:57 PM
Looking online at some forums, a lot of guys are putting an SRI and either catback or axle back exhaust "system" on their cars.Stupid question: Is the exhaust mod helpful at all, or only to make the car sound louder?[Edited on January 2, 2011 at 3:58 PM. Reason : yes]
1/2/2011 3:49:41 PM
best mod you could do at this point is lose the dealer plate
1/2/2011 4:19:42 PM
Do not get that car with expectations of modding it.If you were to put an exhaust on it...the only thing it would be good at would be waking the kids up who are asleep in the back seat.
1/2/2011 5:21:40 PM
Pretty nice grocery getter. Do suspension and take tight turns. If you wanted a better platform you should have just bought an older ev0.
1/2/2011 5:43:00 PM
Yeah...dealer plate off.And the exhaust noise is just stupid.
1/2/2011 5:57:28 PM
If you want to modify your grocery getter in the future, get something turbocharged. Also, the rear end of that car looks atrocious, do they make a plain sedan version? And this coming from a hatch lover...
1/2/2011 7:26:05 PM
or a v8...
1/2/2011 8:50:19 PM
They make a sedan. And it has more trunk space and less headroom.
1/2/2011 9:00:28 PM
^^^agreed. the front looks 10x hotter than the rear. not sure how they came up with that. looks like it should be on a crossover and not a wagon.[Edited on January 2, 2011 at 9:02 PM. Reason : ]

God you garage faggots are fucking terrible. let this nigger mod his shit.Yes put an exhaust on it. ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN STOCK.This subforum is full of fucking german car top gear dreaming faggotry, check out borla or megan. they make some pretty nice stuff that isnt to loud and is decent in price.
1/2/2011 9:15:17 PM
borla makes good stuff megan makes shit.. . and 5hp isn't worth the noise unless you like the noise.
1/2/2011 9:38:57 PM
Don't like the noise.I'm window shopping at SRI's and lighter hoods now...for kicks. The GTS seems to have a lot of the "sporty" exterior options on the normal 4B11's.So I'm just seeing what else I might want to do.Oh, and window tinting is probably next, as long as I keep it legal (in CT and VA).
1/2/2011 10:04:48 PM
PTI (pardon the ignorance), Ragged, but spiderweb?
1/2/2011 10:14:22 PM
1/2/2011 10:19:10 PM
I'm a fan of window tinting. 35% is honestly plenty for me. That's what's on my non running STI atm, and I love the contrast.
1/2/2011 10:20:31 PM
Nice car.
1/2/2011 10:27:02 PM
^^^ Exactly. Leave that fucking thing alone...anything you do to it will just make it worse at what it's really meant to do, and will be a total squandering of your money. If you aren't satisfied with what it is, sell it and buy something that does the things you want. Modifying cars has its place, but not on that one.[Edited on January 2, 2011 at 10:27 PM. Reason : ]
1/2/2011 10:27:37 PM
Thanks and thanks.
1/2/2011 10:32:47 PM
Not trying to trash your Lancer...I think it's a perfectly good car for commuting, running errands around town, etc...but it's not a platform that invites ANY performance modifications. I'd either confine myself to scheduled maintenance, putting gas in it, and replacing wear items (tires, brakes, etc), or I'd sell it and buy a hotter car if that's what you want.
1/2/2011 10:41:39 PM
Bought it new years eve, so no interest in selling it anytime soon.
1/2/2011 10:49:15 PM
ah, then enjoy your economical, fairly basic, practical transportation for what it is. Hell, I'd like to have a car like that for road trips and stuff, but I only have so much money and so much room in my garage and driveway.Trying to make your Lancer faster would be like trying to make my Corvette more capable off-road. It could be done, but it would be really dumb and you'd spend a lot of money to accomplish very little.[Edited on January 2, 2011 at 10:59 PM. Reason : ]
1/2/2011 10:59:14 PM
I disagree with duke that the lancer makes a bad starting point in a wholesale sense, but the specific model you own isn't worth modifying. If you wanted to go faster, Mitsubishi already makes a ralliart and an evo. Which begs the question... If you already really want to go faster, and you JUST bought it, you have every reason to return it and buy a different car, namely a used Mitsubishi lancer sport back ralliart. Then those paddles will be commanding dual clutch manual downshifts on a turbo engine upstream from a 4wd system, not locking the cvt into an imaginary gear on an optimized-for-mpg motor upstream from just a front differential.
1/2/2011 11:54:11 PM
haha you faggots.
1/2/2011 11:57:08 PM
Stfu ragged.Mitsubishi knew there were two buyers for lancers when they set out with this generation model. One was the volume seller which has to be pleasant, and the more fuel efficient, the better to help offset the brand's guzzlers to satisfy cafe of the fleet. The other model was the evo, arguably the most mechanically disparate model anyone's ever sold relative to the base specification, and the ralliart was specifically added later to satisfy those people who would like a lancer, especially a gts, but wanted MORE, but not something different entirely from what they went shopping for. This dude asked about modifying his car, and because he asked about it here, he's not interested in low-rolling resistance tires and fender well covers, ways to blank off holes in the bumper and hypermiling tips. He's specifically asking to go toward the value set that desires an evo, but not quite that far. The lancer ralliart has been out for one year longer than the car he bought, so there ought to be one with reasonably more miles for the same or only reasonably more money.... Afaik (I'm guessing, I haven't looked this up, so sorry if this is off) gts new= 19k, lancer ralliart new = 26-27k. So if his car is 1yr old, let's call that 17. A two year old ralliart with double the mileage could be 21-23k. More, yes, but how much more than what it would cost to RUIN his gts? Not to mention that buying the performance built-in allows him to spread the cost out over the course of the loan, assuming he had a loan. What lancer gts parts are going to be available on credit? Which means more cost upfront anyway, so in terms of pinching his spending, without even addressing warranty and repair cost effects of modifying a lancer, a faster stock car is still the better deal. And 18/25 isn't so much worse than 27/32 if there's that much more fun to be had.

Thanks for all the advice. The only after-market parts I'm really considering is the SRI.There are some things I think it needs (tint, splash guards, maybe better sun visors).I'm only considering the hood because I like the way it looks, I know the Evo, Ralliart, and Vanilla hoods are all compatible, and the FG hood is much less weight than the stock, which alone would help "performance."Since I just bought the car, though, I'm not willing to dump $1K into the car.
1/3/2011 7:42:45 AM
I actually like the styling on the sportback.
1/3/2011 11:09:15 AM
1/3/2011 11:30:11 AM
No gt40 you shut the fuck up.
1/3/2011 12:56:42 PM
I would think that swapping the hood would lower the value, only do it if you hold on to the original
1/3/2011 1:22:56 PM
Good one. You forgot to call me a faggot that time.
1/3/2011 1:26:16 PM
It doesn't weigh less, or it won't improve "performance?"
1/3/2011 2:03:15 PM
no performance gains would be had from a lighter hood. Not on a bone stock, new, car. and it would look out of place to boot.
1/3/2011 3:05:46 PM
keep it stock, upgrade to a ralliart or something in the future
1/3/2011 4:06:21 PM
WTF is an SRI? You should have gotten a Ralliart. Have fun getting stuck in the snow.
1/3/2011 5:18:30 PM
short ram intake?
1/3/2011 5:45:25 PM
1/3/2011 6:14:23 PM
Ceramic, as opposed to?Also, when considering snow tires, I've heard that it may be better to get a different set of rims and mount the tires on them. That way it's easier to pop the tires on and off (in the military and move a lot). So, assuming I did that, is a smaller tire (than my 18") better?
