So do you send people you know from work (that you don't hang out with outside of work) Christmas Cards?Just a note, I don't hang out with anyone from work outside of work.

It really depends on the person. Some get a card and some get a flaming bag of dog poo.Just try not to create a situation where half of the office is wondering why they didn't get cards after a series of seemingly arbitrary coworkers did.

yeah I've decided its easier if I don't give anyone at work Christmas Cards, that way there isn't stuff going on like described in the previous post. I'm not sending any to my neighbors either, since I haven't spoken to either of them in a few weeks. Plus, one set of neighbors haven't been home in a while, I guess they're on a trip. Friends & Family of those I have addresses of are getting cards this year. Maybe next year the list will grow (hopefully).

i just don't send christmas cards. i thought only old people did this.
12/15/2010 10:41:32 PM
I only send Christmas cards to family and very close friends.

I don't send Christmas cards.I don't have my own family, not even a dog, and I'm not much to look at, so I just wish people a merry christmas one way or the other... or sometimes I don't, I guess.

They aren't sending you any cards, are they?Didn't think so.
12/16/2010 2:10:01 AM
I've never sent cards before, so I"m doing that this year.

I think I stopped at 480-something.... I know too many people (and no, I'd never dream of using a computer to print them - they MUST be hand addressed)
12/18/2010 11:34:16 PM
gooood gosh!

mass christmas cards are retarded

Unsurprisingly I see people shitting on sending Christmas Cards in here. My wife and I send out about 100 each year, usually just a photo card of us and our daughter, nothing elaborate. We usually get about the same back from other people and I truly enjoy getting the cards from others in the mail. Yeah I guess you could get all that same shit in electronic form, but it just seems to be part of the season/tradition having them in hand and on display. I know the Christmas card tradition will slowly die as our generation and the upcoming generation are a bunch of lazy/cheap fucks.

^ Or perhaps we also consider the impact on the environment.I think e-cards more than suffice.
12/19/2010 10:08:15 AM
Its nice getting a christmas card in the mail.
12/19/2010 10:11:13 AM
It's definitely nice. But my thought is that the decision not to send a card may simply indicate that the person prefers to conserve natural resources. They're not necessarily lazy/inconsiderate.
12/19/2010 10:15:54 AM
Very true. If someone isn't sending out cards at all for environmental reasons such as the one you stated, then its cool; if they don't send out cards b/c they're lazy, not cool. I didn't in previous years because I was a selfish ass and didn't think of others. This is something I am changing.

^ That's true. Electronic publishing does save money. Obviously, there are environmental implications to every piece of communication distributed, whether via print or web. That said, electronic touchpoints from a company tend to be much more efficient on many levels. Transactions happen much more quickly. There's no need to call into a call center, be placed on hold for 30 minutes, then talk to someone who's using a computer to do something that you could do at home by yourself. The energy that it takes to support a call center is another discussion itself. The challenge with print is that it's a bit more difficult to quantify the energy expended to communicate a message. With web, that data is much easier to access.Sorry to divert from the thread. Definitely a good conversation for the Soap Box.I'm mostly just opposed to direct mail. And my rationale to not send Christmas cards is not based on the environment. I'm not Christian, so I simply don't really celebrate Christmas ... just partake in celebrations.I always feel bad when I receive Christmas cards from people at work because I feel as though they expect a card in return. Makes me feel guilty.

I don't like the family photo cards. I mean, if it's like a pic of my nephew or other really close family, fine, but I really dont care what you and the rest of your family look like otherwise. I don't understand why people think 300 others care to see their kids in hideous holiday sweaters or all in white & khaki on the beach in summer with Santa hats on...
12/19/2010 10:53:56 AM
^ I like seeing as the kids grow up so I guess it is just different for different folks.^^ I get the whole efficiency thing and gladly accept that as a very, very valid reason to go paperless. I am a papermaker, I manage a department that recycles 800 T of paper daily so I get a defensive on the "paper should be banned" crap coming from the tree huggers. There are pros and cons to everything. You not being a Christian too is obviously a great reason to not do the Christmas card thing as well.
12/19/2010 12:16:54 PM
I don't send Christmas or any other holiday cards because I'm a man and men dont do that. It's womens work.
12/19/2010 1:15:47 PM
^^^ I like those types of cards
