Looking at the history of the US, and the polls from the recent “9/11 mosque” issue, it doesn’t seem we have any qualms about suppressing entire groups based on the actions of a few fringe individuals.

A deliberate attempt to indiscriminately kill a collected group of civilians was attempted and a single guy tries to burn a mosque. I promise you that every major Church in the area and probably even Synagogue is condeming that act this morning. Contrast this with the global shit-fit that was thrown over a disparaging DRAWING of Muhammed.


I'm one of the more socially libertarian posters in TSB and one of the most cynical people I know. I agree, there is a lot wrong with America and Americans, but only from the perspective of being a) so awesome and b) wanting to be more awesome. Compared to much of the rest of the world we kick ass.

Pretty much. There is a lot we need to fix from a moral standpoint. But despite being a flawed nation, we're one of the few that is so vocal about our flaws and aggressive (relatively, though not enough) about fixing them.
