We had it at Galaxy for a few weeks. I didn't get to see it but it was supposed to be really good (and apolitical, for whatever that's worth).

11/30/2010 10:51:17 PM
I downloaded the torrent which i assume was the unedited version. there was no killing or anything shown. Camera guy didn't have the balls to peak over the sand bags.
12/1/2010 9:09:40 AM
its on netflix instant watch now
12/7/2010 6:08:48 PM
It's on National Geographic on demand (TWC).Watched it the other night, and it's pretty powerful...if you've seen Grizzly Man (same director), the style is very similar (very little music, little narration-aside from what's provided by the soldiers in interviews). The scenes about operation Rock Avalanche were intense...it's tough to imagine a place in this day and age that's gone so untouched by the modern world.
12/9/2010 10:28:07 AM
Werner Herzog directed Grizzly Man, he didnt have anything to do with this
12/9/2010 3:25:59 PM
^^^ Came here to post this.
12/14/2010 8:50:04 AM
^Whoops, my fault...I got Herzog and Junger mixed up.
12/14/2010 12:14:52 PM
This is a great movie. It really pulls you in and keeps your attention. The whole time though, I couldn't help but think of my cousin who was killed in a similar situation in Afghanistan. Horrible strategic position combined with an intel failure. It's a more complicated situation that has been featured on a few TV shows...It's a really good video that ran on Dateline NBC if you're into the documentary kind of thing. Pruitt was a bad ass MMA fighter and was the first one to seal off the attack when they were five feet away.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37853775/ns/dateline_nbc-international/
12/22/2010 1:31:15 AM
that was pretty incredible
1/3/2011 1:01:47 AM
i still have this on my dvr....i still have not watched it, damnit.
1/4/2011 5:02:39 AM
Watched it on Netflix yesterday. I liked it a lot.
1/17/2011 3:15:14 PM
saw it over the weekend.really really good, and definitely apolitical, which is a hard thing to find with anything war related. Definitely puts things in perspective having my brother-in-law in the marines, with one deployment to afganistan under his belt already.
4/25/2011 10:45:52 AM
Tim Heatherington was killed in Libya last week, btw.
4/25/2011 10:50:18 AM
It will air on the National Geographic channel tonight at 9.
4/25/2011 10:52:41 AM
just saw it. amazing story and it really helped me to understand what our soldiers are going through and empathize with them after watching it.
4/25/2011 11:12:33 AM
^^^yeah, the other thread about it prompted me to watch this.
4/26/2011 12:38:52 PM
don't think it was apoliticali think it was meant to raise the questions of "why are we there?" and "what are we fighting for?"
4/26/2011 1:12:53 PM
sure, it certainly makes one raise the question-- the fact that the film doesn't try to answer the question is what makes it apolitical.[Edited on April 26, 2011 at 1:23 PM. Reason : IMHO]
4/26/2011 1:23:34 PM
I don't think it was overly political, but I think "what are we fighting for?" is in itself a political statement
4/26/2011 1:52:57 PM
i borrowed this DVD from a friend, been meaning to watch it
4/26/2011 2:02:02 PM
The death of the one guy up on the top of the mountain was pretty moving
4/26/2011 2:05:08 PM
^I saw it on Netflix. Powerful stuff.[Edited on April 26, 2011 at 3:46 PM. Reason : it's on "instant watch" now]
4/26/2011 3:45:30 PM
I thought it was pretty apolitical. Definitely had a strong "why are we here" kind of vibe, but didn't really go into the actual politics of anything. It was pretty moving, and it gives you a really good prospective of what the boots on the ground go through on a day to day basis. I strongly recommend it to anyone who is the least bit interested in the subject.
