I am taking my lady to Asheville next weekend for a couple of nights and was curious if anyone can recommend a nice hotel close to both the Biltmore Estate and some decent restaurants/bars. I dont really want to spend more than $100/night if I can help it. Its just hard to tell from the websites which ones are in the best locations and which ones are the best values.thanks!

North Lodge is awesome if you're down with a B&B.
11/17/2010 2:29:09 PM

11/17/2010 2:31:57 PM

we stayed at the Renaissance downtown the couple of times we've been, I thought it was niceGrand Bohemian is pretty sweet but it's $texasoh damn I didn't see your <$100/night - that's going to be hard to do for somewhere that isn't shitty, especially next weekend[Edited on November 17, 2010 at 3:16 PM. 11/17/2010 3:14:30 PM
Yeah, Grove Park is definitely badass, but expensive.
11/17/2010 3:17:50 PM
there are actually several options on priceline and other similar sites for right around $100. i just dont know which ones are best.
11/17/2010 3:18:16 PM
You'd probably be better off posting which ones you're seeing that fit your price range and asking if anyone has opinions on them versus looking for hotel recommendations that mostly likely won't fit your budget or still be available.
11/17/2010 3:21:57 PM
^^ sure there are some under $100 but not near Biltmore and restaurants/bars (which would be downtown). the cheaper ones are over near Tunnel Rdnow maybe somebody who has been there more than a handful of times knows of a deal somewhere but that's just what I've seen when we've taken trips up there. which ones are you considering?
11/17/2010 3:34:11 PM
ok fair enoughunder $100:Baymont Inn - Hendersonville RoadHoliday Inn - Tunnel RoadComfort Suites - Brevard Roadover $100:4 points Sheraton - downtownHoliday Inn - downtownCrowne Plaza
11/17/2010 3:38:49 PM
Try the best western downtown if you want to be able to walk to food. Gah, never mind I guess that's the Sheraton now.Hendersonville, Tunnel, Brevard Roads all have too much traffic to walk to much of anything. Although I suppose if you like outback steakhouse by all means, stay at the holiday inn on Tunnel.[Edited on November 17, 2010 at 3:53 PM. Reason : neh]
11/17/2010 3:46:12 PM
of those you listed, I think the sheraton is the best location
11/17/2010 3:47:46 PM
I nearly stayed here, place didn't look great, but it was cheap at the time at within walking distance of most of the things we wanted to see.http://downtowninnandsuites.com/(this place used to be a days inn or so I read)We ended up doing an Asheville/Nashville trip, because 1 of our group of 4 couldn't come if we made the trip too long, so we saw Biltmore & ate at Tupelos on the way through the first time, and walked around more, shopped, and ate again on the way back, but the only hotel we stayed at was in Nashville. So I never actually saw it in person so I can't give a better recommendation. But we had originally picked that place on similar criteria, looking for a place close to downtown, not too far from Biltmore, and affordable.
11/17/2010 3:51:02 PM
We stayed at the Holiday Inn on Tunnel Road a few months ago and were happy with it. We knew we were going to be driving into downtown and didn't particularly care about the hotel's exact location.^ I really wanted to eat at Tupelo but both times we went by the wait was an hour and 45 minutes or something. [Edited on November 17, 2010 at 3:52 PM. Reason : .]
Yeah, it all depends on if you're okay with driving. It's not too hard to find parking downtown in Asheville so that's not an issue. I personally wanted to walk around at night and not mess around with that so I chose one downtown.I wouldn't factor distance to Biltmore at all, it doesn't take long to get there from most places in the area anyways.
11/17/2010 3:56:02 PM
Yeah, you have to drive to get onto the estate anyway. The real question is whether you want to be downtown or not. There are plenty of places in Asheville that rival Tupelo and don't require waiting an hour to sit down.
11/17/2010 3:58:44 PM
haha, we went to the place right next door, got seated immediately and it was completely amazing.
11/17/2010 3:59:47 PM
thanks for all of the input. I am leaning Sheraton.

11/17/2010 4:19:04 PM
Weekend breakfast is what really gets slammed there, but I would be surprised to be seated immediately for dinner too.I don't even bother much with downtown anymore unless it's a special occasion. There are too many reasonably priced restaurants with excellent food and decent parking elsewhere. West Asheville has some killer new restaurants and bars without the crowds and craziness of downtown.
11/17/2010 4:23:12 PM
yeah, and there's a pile of places to go if you're on a budget too. a lot of the "best of" places in asheville are $$
11/17/2010 8:29:42 PM
PM me if you want to stay at 4 Points by Sheraton. I get corporate discounts.Otherwise, I recommend Grand Bohemian. It's $$$, but you can prob get a great deal if you go on priceline and name your best price.[Edited on November 18, 2010 at 6:34 AM. Reason : S]

Not that this is something you are interested in, but if you ever want to take your dogs on a trip with you, Asheville rocks. My wife and I stayed at a bed & breakfast north of Asheville (20 minutes max) called Ponder Cove a few weeks ago. It's unbelievably beautiful and very peaceful. It's over your price range but if you ever do it, it's very worth it. Dogs are allowed to roam free all the time and the owners are awesome. Also, if you try and venture out to the area around Asheville, there are tons of walking trails you can do and what not. Here is one we did (http://www.exploreasheville.com/what-to-do/outdoor-adventures/hiking-trails-in-the-asheville-area/laurel-river-trail/index.aspx). Gorgeous trail.P.S. Martha's breakfasts are ridiculously awesome.http://www.pondercove.com/You should go to Weaverville (about 10 minutes north of Asheville) and hit up a restaurant called Stoney Knob Cafe (http://www.stoneyknobcafe.com/index.html). It was delicious. If they have their coffee rubbed steak special, it's a must get.Weaverville is a great little town to venture to.That is all. Over and out.[Edited on November 18, 2010 at 8:41 AM. when's the best time to visit asheville after the dead of winter?
12/22/2010 1:48:17 PM
1 - check out bed and breakfasts. the ladies love them, and they're usually not *that* expensive. you probably won't be walking to restaurants/bars, but at least you'll have the whole b&b thing. I did that for one Asheville trip and it worked out well.2 - It is possible to stay at Grove Park for $100 a night if you find the right special. I was there last weekend and we all paid $100 a night because we booked under some special back in October. Sign up for their special offers email and/or periodically visit their site to scope the specials.

we stayed in a cabin about 20 mins outside of asheville. we stayed in the smaller of the two & it was $75/night. it's 1 BIG room with a bed, futon, coffee table, tv, little dining table, & a small kitchen. bathroom too of course (shower only - no tub). nice big stone real wood fireplace (wood provided) & a screened porch with rocking chairs too. we took both of our dogs (about 50lbs each) plus their crates & had plenty of floor space still. if you're interested in hiking, there's a nature preserve with trails at the end of the street that it's on. i highly recommend this place.*http://theflorencetrailcottages.com/*it's not a fancy luxury type place nor a bed & breakfast. it's just a cabin. i definitely don't recommend the 4 points by sheratonits an older building. new fixtures/furniture. loud ac/heat unit. too close to the interstate, if you're going to stay here request a room on the downtown side. wife left her phone in the room and one of the housekeeping staff stole it. we turned on the gps locator and management was able to figure out who took it (after we left) and recovered the phone for us.obviously the OP has already done his trip, for others though I'd avoid the place.

bttt, this is the most relevant thread. so i came across a cabin in Bryson City, west of Asheville, that i could get for relatively cheap for the weekend before valentines day. It's a small place, fully furnished, with outdoor jacuzzi. I'm curious if the weather would be too cold to really enjoy it...
1/27/2011 10:26:50 AM
Its never too cold to enjoy an outdoor jacuzzi

Going up to Asheville Thanksgiving weekend for a show Friday night. Need a hotel within walking distance of the Civic Center. Haywood Park Hotel looks decent but has a 2 night minimum that weekend. Already reserved a room at Hotel Indigo which is a block from the Civic Center. It looks a little more modern too. Any other good ones in the area? I've heard bad things about the Renaissance.

I stayed roughly 20 minutes outside of Asheville in an amazing hotel. http://www.theesmeralda.com/Super nice, reasonably priced. They served wine and cheese in the evenings to their guests. Yeah that place is cheap. Less than half of what the hotels in downtown are charging. Too bad I'll be far too gone to drive anywhere. Hehe.
