Have a HP DV2810us (out of warranty) that had a RAM slot go bad about a month ago. No problems before or after that until it randomly restarted a couple days ago and came back up with a bad checksum error upon trying to start Windows. After trying and failing to use startup repair to get back into Windows the laptop will no longer even post the BIOS. I'm thinking that it is either related to the previous RAM problem or it possibly needs a new CMOS battery. At least that's what I'm hoping. However I don't work with laptops enough to positively diagnose the exact problem. Thus this post... need someone to look at it to determine the exact cause. Don't think it's a motherboard problem so I'm hoping for a relatively cheap fix. Just want to know what's wrong before I go out and drop $800 on a new one.

I already know a few guys on here who can do the work, but looking for a fast turnaround so first come first serve with a reasonable price. Beer? Cash? Trade?

I doubt a bad CMOS will do this. sounds like a ram issue.

I dont work on laptops normally and def not on an HP. Sorry. GL with it. If its out of warranty best off getting a new one. Laptops are a bitch to fix.

^Thanks for the info. Yeah I'm really hoping that my other RAM slot didn't go bad too - I'd pretty much be screwed then. If anyone else has any ideas please let me know!

I second either a RAM or motherboard issue.

And that model is the Turion processor - they run notoriously hot. Said heat causes strange problems.
