I'm a side sleeper and I've tried putting a pillow between my legs but it doesnt seem to help. my mattress is brand new. anybody have any suggestions?

Start sleeping on your back with your head slightly elevated, also lay on your back on the floor with your gluts and hamstrings flush to the couch and obviously place your feet on the couch with your calves flush to the seat of the couch. Do that for about 15-20 minutes a days. In addition to this walk and/or run a few times a week. If you are in your mid to late 20s its just you getting 'old' - Welcome! if your back pain is relatively mild you should try stretching. if you watch a 30 minute tv show each evening, sit on the floor and stretch during the whole episode. if your back pain is really bad, i'd try to find a do who does omm or a chiropractor. they might be able to get you straightened out, and then hopefully stretching/new bed/sleeping right will prevent a recurrence.

The dude did put this in the Lounge instead of Shitchat, just saying. Because it's really helpfulto tell him to suck it up. Some ideas besides the new mattress:1) posture: how is it? Most Americans get lower back pain because they sit at desks all day and have poor posture there, and while walking. Make sure you sit and walk straight, shoulders back but relaxed, head up. Your feet should rest flat on the floor while sitting and you should set your chair back so you're not slouching. Also make sure the computer set up isn't causing you to strain.2) I agree with the stretching idea, would also add core work to strengthen your lower back, front, and sides. Leg raises, crunches, side plank, etc. Forward bends, side stretches, passive backbends on a blanket, and twisting your legs to the side can also help lengthen and release a compressed lower back. Tight hip flexors and pelvic muscles can also really aggravate the back. 3) Medical reason: have you actually gone to the doc and got this checked out? A compressed disc, stress (mostly held in the lower back), or a muscle/ligament/tendon injury are all possibilities, or less often, skeletal misalignment. Hopefully you can fix the problem with some combo of prevention and treatment before doing surgery. +1 for massage therapy and the chiropracter ideas.

I'm not getting into it with a troll.And, I also did have annoying, chronic lower back pain a few years ago- a multi-pronged approach helped relieve it with the aid and supervision of my health care professional (PA). Why would you put up with chronic symptoms when you could actually fix the problem at its source? That doesn't make any sense.

i have lower back pain from a snowboarding accident 7 years ago. you need to go to a physical therapist who is specialized in back pain/injury. he/she will teach you the proper stretching technique as well as make adjustments to your back. the one i use is Jack Keller at Capital City Health Care Providers. i need to go back to him soon. i tweaked my back last week when i slipped getting out of the shower. i'm in constant pain right now.

I hurt my back in June, and saw a chiropractor for a good while to try and get moving again. That was really just a terrible month I'd been good without going back to see him the past few months, but the pain is starting to come back. It really feels like my lower back just locks up. Some stretching that he showed me helps loosen things up a bit so I can at least function, but the pain is still around. The only relief I've ever found for it was from muscle stim, which I really adore. I'd love to get one of those little machines for home use. alas, they are too pricey and I will just end up going back for another office visit.
