Haha good point, but you would be surprised at how good he and his band are live. Especially considering most hip hop shows are terrible.

When I saw him last, it was at Lincoln Theatre back around 2004.

Anyway, this is cool. I'll probably check it out.

The Brewery -- bringing you the worst shitty music from 2001 in 2010

how is that place still fucking open? They've done their best to kill it, LOL

because they bring in a black guy ringer once every 6 months that satisfies the "Black music" quota

...in theory

because they have a ton of screamo and metal shows that start at 7 PM and are full of 14 year olds

kudos to them for catering to a niche that no one else wants to be involved with, though

they've catered to that demographic since i was in high school

if a joint on hills can keep up with a terrible place, horrid parking, and a bad schedule

then more power to them ok

they've out lasted many other joints i'd have rather stuck around

even if one of my good (guy) friends got roofied there and everyone and their brother's band has played there (hell even me)

thursday in like '99 and boy sets fire in like '98, i think botch in like '97 were high lights for me.

whatever. i dig shitty seedy joints with poor sound that allow local bands -> quasi ok bands to play.

btw, i didnt know afroman was relevant after like 2001.\\

im dronk and rambling but i dont get the brewery hate.

it caters to a specific audience and has an interesting raleigh history

^ I don't hate the place, I just mock what they book.

As others have said, they pander to a niche of shitty teen bands and that's all well and good. I just think it's sort of sad, considering how many good up and comers who played there through the 80's and 90's.

Of course, part of that is due to individuals who owned it in the past moving establishments downtown, as well as other similarly situated venues popping up that compete with them. Times change, and they've adapted to do what they had to do to pay the bills.... that doesn't mean I have to praise them for it based solely on nostalgia.

Afroman isn't very good. His rhymes would be tight if this was 1987 I guess.

The Brewery is alright. I've seen some good bands play there. Maybe my interpretation differs, but when I think of The Brewery I think of it as being a foundation for metal in Raleigh. It just happens that a lot of the metal out there today caters to the Hot Topic high school crowd. That will pass just as every other phase comes and goes. The Brewery also has some stiff competition from Volume 11 for the bigger metal acts now; something they didn't have to worry about so much in the 90's as I remember it.

They can't have huge acts every night. Gotta fill the calender with local music and the high school bands need a place to play too.

Agnostic Front in 97 or 98 and 7 Seconds/Stretch Armstrong in 2000 or 2001 are highlights for me. Strike Anywhere four or five years ago was really good too although that one probably catered to the high school crowd you're bitching about a little too much.

Actually, Afroman requested COLT 45. So, don't blame us. He racially stereotyped himself.
