Has anyone on TWW heard of this?? I just started playing about 6 months ago and I LOVE it!!!You wear fins and a snorkel and aim for a heavy hockey puck on the bottom of a pool. (ours is 8ft deep) It's a great workout and it's FUN!! I recommend anyone try it if there's a team in your area. I recently went to a tournament and had a great time.

i would drown after about 3 minutes of trying this
9/23/2010 8:03:58 PM
sideboob!wow, looks like a workout
9/23/2010 8:13:54 PM
sounds like lots of potential for drowning with people flying upwards while others dive
9/23/2010 8:54:15 PM
looks like fun
9/23/2010 9:30:15 PM
My gf played in high school. Apparently its quite popular in Canada.I still make fun of her for it too.
9/23/2010 10:09:32 PM
^^^ lol no ... although I have run into people before I've never come close to getting knocked out or something. seriously it's not like running into a brick wall if you hit someone. also hockey players are paying attention and would help if something were to happen. better than some bored teenage lifeguard who just texts all day. ]
9/23/2010 10:10:32 PM
Where do you play? Buddy of mine played at VT and plays with the UNC team now. Still goes to a ton of tourneys.
9/23/2010 10:32:31 PM
I live in Charleston, SC now. I looked into the UNC team for when I visit Durham, but apparently you have to be a student to play with them. ]
9/23/2010 10:44:25 PM
fuck yeai played this fairly often during the time i was out in washingtonamazing workout
9/23/2010 11:24:24 PM
I, too, would drown.
9/24/2010 3:27:04 AM
nerdchick, youre doin it wrong.
9/26/2010 12:55:14 PM
LOL ... you prefer "hard water" hockey, am I rite??
9/26/2010 1:04:41 PM
Well obviously, for all you people worried about drowning, this is only for competent swimmers. So quit whining.Looks really interesting! I might have to look into this when I'm done recovering.
9/26/2010 1:05:20 PM
i, too, think it looks like a good chance of water danger with that many people fighting to get a puck and one person fighting to get up for air
9/26/2010 2:32:01 PM
this looks ridiculous.but it reminded me of knock hockey, which was the best game known to man.[Edited on September 26, 2010 at 2:39 PM. Reason : apparently, it's "nok" hockey]
9/26/2010 2:38:13 PM
9/26/2010 4:47:59 PM
I would accidentally kick so many people in the face if I were to try this.I wouldn't feel bad about it though. This may or may not be a result of me selling my soul for a bag of doritos back in 2005.
9/26/2010 4:59:58 PM
LOL ... actually I get kicked in the face just about every other practice luckily the scuba mask pretty well shields your face. so I don't have to worry about people asking me if I burned TheBullDoza's dinner or something
9/26/2010 8:05:11 PM
Watching the video confirmed my suspicion that this is, in fact, ridiculous. It looks like a bunch of bottom feeder fish fighting over food.I'm sure it's a good workout and exhausting, though.
9/26/2010 8:45:04 PM
looks like a great workout for surebut the game itself looks very silly IMOthe took hockey and they replaced all the cool parts with the worst parts of ultimateplus no goaltenders? meh.
9/27/2010 2:16:19 AM
Are the masks necessary? I'd just want some goggles. Masks are for pussies.
9/27/2010 8:38:01 AM
Masks that cover the nose are much more snorkel-friendly than simple goggles. At least for me. But I swim like a rock. And I freak the fuck out whenever I go snorkeling.
9/27/2010 9:46:10 AM
9/27/2010 10:10:28 AM
^ I get that...I'm saying, why the snorkel?? I know the special snorkels that give you an extra breath of air under water, but those don't look like that. I just feel like that shit would get in my way. I can hold my breath for a really long time...I say fuck the snorkel. Just give me some goggles and get out of my way (that's if I were to ever play this retarded sport).
9/27/2010 11:13:20 AM
Agreed, I don't see the point in a snorkel. Seems like it'd be a lot easier to just pop up to the surface entirely, take a gulp and then head back down.
9/27/2010 11:19:31 AM
I'm assuming it has to do with being able to keep your eyes on the game while up top for air.
9/27/2010 2:08:36 PM
^good call
9/27/2010 2:19:54 PM
9/27/2010 5:09:10 PM
^Nah holmes. Me and my dad use to race back and forth in the pool swimming underwater. When not swimming, I can stay under water for over 2 minutes (haven't timed it in a while, but I feel confident I could stay under for around 2 and a half minutes). My dad could almost reach three. It would definitely change a lot if I were doing something as asinine as under water hockey, but I'd rather sacrifice a few seconds for the comfort of using goggles instead of a mask and snorkel.
9/27/2010 5:17:37 PM
^ dude I've played with Navy divers who were exhausted by this game. Also I found a video of a first-person perspective!! It shows a bit better what it's like to play. I'll be the first to admit that it's not a spectator sport. From the surface it looks like a piranha feeding frenzy and from the water it looks like salmon swimming up the river. But playing is FUN!!!
9/27/2010 9:31:49 PM
I think the real question is, does fighting have its place in underwater hockey?
9/27/2010 11:32:55 PM
just when you think you've seen everything...
9/28/2010 12:02:13 AM
i remember when porcha and i played water polo. i thought we might both die. some heavy set girl (PC) tried to drown me.
9/28/2010 1:02:37 AM
9/28/2010 7:53:18 AM
^^ water polo is a dirty game. it's all about fouling where the ref can't see. they give wedgies, dunk, foul you underwater, anything! the refs started making women grind their nails on the pool deck before games because so many people were sharpening their nails to stab people
9/28/2010 3:21:04 PM
ok officially the whitest sport ever now
9/28/2010 5:34:04 PM
LOL no!! It's actually very popular in southeast Asia. At the tournament I went to, out of 30 players there were about 10 from places like the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia.
9/28/2010 5:53:50 PM
i would actually try this, despite how stupid i might would look.
9/28/2010 6:39:52 PM
asians also love some badminton...i'm just saying.
9/28/2010 7:05:09 PM
to start off each point, you put the puck in the middle of the pool and both teams race for it. It's called the "strike"today in practice I got the puck off the strike, powered through the other team and scored in one go! it was awesome! I've seen other players do it before but never done it myself (it's rare but not unheard of). it might be my greatest hockey moment so far.
2/1/2011 10:22:55 PM
As dumb as this is, I could totally get into it for the workout part. This is way better than a treadmill or free weights.
2/1/2011 10:39:10 PM
if you want to stay down for longer than 20 seconds you're gonna need to breath more on the surface.... even more so doing this repeatedly...this is coming from someone who can do a 100 free no breather and a 75 underwater without major effort.....if it was in a 4 ft pool then i would agree with you, one breath is enough but at 8 feet you'll be spending a decent amount of energy (and air) on just getting down and staying down.in addition to the mask protecting your face more than goggles (if you've been smacked in the eye with goggles on before you know exactly what i'm talking about (you'll look as though you got beaten) the more substantial mask strap would also hold the snorkel better/more securely... that said, this does look kinda goofy, more of a game to play after a friday practice than anything else....tons of people are 'comfortable' with the water and 'grew up' around it a lot, but they still suck as swimmers overall.
2/5/2011 12:46:25 AM
all you people hating on this are insane, this game looks like a freaking blastwho cares what you look likeeveryone looks silly whilst taking a shit but ya do it anyway don't ya[Edited on February 6, 2011 at 4:51 AM. Reason : nerdchink why didn't you tell me about this years ago][Edited on February 6, 2011 at 4:52 AM. Reason : oh god damn phone...i'm gonna leave that]
2/6/2011 4:49:47 AM
Lots of closed-minded retards ITT who sound allergic to fun
2/6/2011 11:03:00 AM
indeed, i think this looks like great funBut i'd want the beginners league, where the water is like 3 feet deep, lol
2/6/2011 10:11:46 PM
Topless underwater hockey and then we'll talk.
2/7/2011 12:09:43 AM
2/7/2011 12:37:19 PM
oh yeah it would be fun, no doubt. i dunno if i'd want to get kicked in the face though and there seems to be a pretty solid odds of that occurring... plus im in greensboro...
