k
9/22/2010 10:29:48 PM
not typically. depends on the place.
9/22/2010 10:30:28 PM
Uhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm if it's a mom and pop shop that's new.... then maybe
9/22/2010 10:35:00 PM
i hate the places with the carside to go where they bring it out to your car, then you basically HAVE to tip
9/22/2010 10:41:47 PM
if i got take out at like the times or capital club 16 or anywhere i frequently go and/or know people, i'd probably tip a little. at like papa john's....negative. sorry, PJ.
9/22/2010 10:43:18 PM
No.
9/22/2010 10:47:07 PM
tipping is my weakness, i always tend to tip too much, but for take out, no.. i agree that if its a mom and pop type place and it's good. i will tip a little for pick up, but at like a chinese place, or papa johns or anything where i go in and pick it up myself with no help, then no.
9/22/2010 10:48:17 PM
Okay what about places where all they do is bring you your food.I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
9/22/2010 10:49:01 PM
No
9/22/2010 10:53:56 PM
If they walk out to my car I give them a dollar. If I go inside, no tip.
9/22/2010 10:57:37 PM
No, never.
9/22/2010 10:59:36 PM
I tip if I'm too fucking lazy to go inside and get it which I'm usually not.
9/22/2010 11:38:04 PM
N to the izzo.Way to the izzay. In my bank account,Is where I keep my money.
9/22/2010 11:45:42 PM
I do not tip for take out. But I tip way too much at restaurants/delivery.
9/23/2010 2:26:31 AM
I believe the point of picking it up is to avoid paying a tip to begin with
9/23/2010 2:34:01 AM
^ well said, sir
9/23/2010 2:35:19 AM
bump
5/10/2012 7:55:09 PM
by rule, i refuse to tip Asian peopleand that's really the only take-out I ever get
5/10/2012 7:59:56 PM
i only tip hot girls.and then, only the tip.
5/10/2012 8:02:57 PM
On a slightly related note, I hate going out to eat with people who are shitty tippers when you get separate checks.Cause I don't want to be associated with cheap asses so then I feel like I have to tip way more to make up for it.
5/10/2012 8:04:00 PM
if i get like a $12 meal i'll usually tip a dollar or twogot some food the other night with a gift card from a restaurant, and the receipt they gave me just had the remaining balance, no receipt to add a tip and total, and i didnt have cash on me, so no tiptipping is good though...when i was at State and would go to Waffle House late night, i'd tip Miss Betty well, and also tip the line cooks a few bucks...once they knew me, i could go in at 3am on a Friday when it was packed and i'd get the table ahead of people who had been waiting for 15 minutes
5/10/2012 8:11:10 PM
5/10/2012 9:36:16 PM
I thought the point of picking up food is to...eat it at home/work instead of at the restaurant?]
5/10/2012 9:37:00 PM
That's what delivery is for.
5/10/2012 9:37:52 PM

5/10/2012 10:27:38 PM
If it's standard take out then no I don't usually tip, if it's a bartender that puts the order together then yes I do tip.
5/10/2012 10:56:50 PM
If it's a place that typically does take out business (or has "express" or similar in the name), I don't tip. If I go to a restaurant that does primarily sit-down business, I will. I also tip for places that I frequent.[Edited on May 10, 2012 at 11:05 PM. Reason : ]

people who tip too much are worse than people who don''t tip at all. quit trying to be important, look like a baller of feel good about yourself by giving someone too much money to do a simple job. people with tip jobs make so much more money than they should make anyway because of over tipping then they complain when a poor tip ruins their 500 dollar night. I remember delivering pizzas and feeling bad when someone ordered a 10 dollar pizza and gave a 5 dollar tip. wtf? Also i drove an expensive car and people who commented on the car always gave much higher tips. Strange.

I usually leave a race program with a horse circled. Then I give them a wink and a smile. They get excited they may hit it big and I'm out of there before they figure it out.
5/11/2012 7:23:59 AM
I tip about 10% on carry out, or a dollar or two. Just something to say, "Hey, I didn't eat here but here's a little something to show you I appreciate you still had to take my order and check on the food in the kitchen and probably prep the to-go bag and get my a drink but anyway here's a dollar."
5/11/2012 7:28:13 AM
of course not.
5/11/2012 7:46:14 AM
5/11/2012 7:46:15 AM
^thank you realism. that shit never comes from people in the industry, they always bitch lol. You spent 10 seconds max pressing 5 buttons on a computer and then dragged a bag out of the kitchen. The kitchen staff did 95% of the work. Then again 10% of like a $14 takeout order of food for a couple people is nothing really lol.I think people don't do it because they consider 90% of the work to be delivery if they were going to get something delivered.I'm Krallum and I approved this message.
5/11/2012 7:57:00 AM
Yeah I'd say an average night I made about $15. Lucky nights around $30. If not getting that much money is financially breaking you, it's time to find another line of work.
5/11/2012 8:03:41 AM
For carry out I hold my hand out and wait there until they give me a tip.

5/11/2012 8:32:53 AM
Nothing about my post would tell you what type of restaurant it was I had to deal with the take out rush at the same time as the dinner rush as well. That's called doing your job. I was already getting paid above minimum wage so any tips were icing on the cake. If I wanted to be making money from tips I'd have been a waitress.
5/11/2012 8:36:24 AM
Hostesses don't count. Besides the manager, you guys have the easiest job in the whole restaurant.[Edited on May 11, 2012 at 8:39 AM. Reason : .]
5/11/2012 8:38:40 AM
Yeah dealing with pissy customers, pissy waitresses, pissy managers, pissy kitchen staff, and bussing tables all night is so much fun lol. And really, you think managers have an easy job? Unless they suck at their job they're the ones making sure everyone else there has a job. That sort of pissing match, "My job sucks so much more than your job," that goes on in the food industry is one of the reasons I'm glad I don't work in it anyone. Bunch of melodramatic drama queens that make careers out of it.If I had to choose, I'd say the dishwasher has the shittiest job in a restaurant.
5/11/2012 8:45:56 AM
Man jbrick you make some retarded assumptions. This thread is obviously about shitty food places. First off id never get take out from a nice restaraunt, second id tip, why? Just Cause... 2I'm talkin about when I order pearl or like a pizza or some shit.I'm Krallum and I approved this message.[Edited on May 11, 2012 at 8:55 AM. Reason : ]

I had this thread bumped because I was wondering about places like Moes. Anyone tip there? They get hourly pay >= minimum wage, so I'm not expecting anyone to say 20% or anything, but a couple bucks?
5/11/2012 9:03:02 AM
If I'm paying cash I'll probably throw some change in the jar, otherwise probably not.
5/11/2012 9:10:37 AM
Fuck places that ask for tips that don't provide waiting services. Fuck you. I'm looking at you, Chinese take-out, Cold Stone, Moes, etc. Tips are for providing reward to those who have fully serviced you throughout an entire meal and done so beyond and above the call of duty. Not for some high school schmuck in the taco assembly line who just throws disproportionate amounts of fillings into a shell and then slings it up on the counter. What the fuck have you done? Not a damn thing but plate my food. I don't tip the chef at Ruth's for plating my food, now why the fuck are you special? You want a tip? Then don't have me stand there to wait for you to make my meal, don't have me carry my meal, don't have me fill or refill my own drink, come by to check on me at the table, etc. Fucks asking for tips without providing tip worthy services. Fuck you. I'm even talking to you, pizza delivery boy. Why in the hell am I tipping you, other than that you get paid jack shit and society demands that I make it up to you. Fuck that. You just brought me food, good for fucking you. I don't tip the food runner at McDonald's, why the fuck are you getting tips? Tell the bossman to pay you, not me. You're not sitting around while I eat, refilling my plate, getting me more soda. Tips aren't required anywhere. Tips are for showing appreciation to a server for going above and beyond, not their base income. You expect a tip from me? Then fucking earn it.[Edited on May 11, 2012 at 9:16 AM. Reason : .]

If you are expected to tip at Moe's where wouldn't you be expected to tip? They slap the food together your own way at Burger King as well. This tip thing is getting ridiculous.
