I am just trying to avoid hanging out with work people. Although I am pretty sure I could get a blowsky from at least 3 of them

^ not sure where my hotel will be, but I assume it will be in the Southpark area.

Ok, for real, if you are in town around the South Park area... heading downtown might not be a bad option. I like the Tavern off of colony to go chill, have a few beers, and get some grub. Fox and Hound in Ballentyne and Downtown (at least as of a couple of years ago) are pretty fun

I used to hang out at Fox and Hound in Winston, and thought it was pretty cool. Thanks, I didn't even know they were still in business

And I might need a massage after my day Friday, so I will hit up Slave's bath houses.

Uptown caberet (sp?) was the only in Charlotte i've been to. I loved it, but then again I was 17 when my uncle got me in through his connections and had me in the upstairs "VIP" section the whole time, so my opinion might be a little skewed... Also this was almost 10 years ago too

If you are a douchebag that wants to hang out with skanks from Gastonia or Concord then you could go to the Epicentre and go to suite or something. But seriously, dowtown isn't all bad depending on where you go.

Southpark is pretty much a cougar den. They don't really have bars as much as they have restaurants with bars. If you want to take some strange back to your expensed hotel then you are in good shape.

If you want to go to bars then I would head around the corner to Montford. Depending which bar you are at there will be a 22-30 year old crowd.

All of these things are kind of lame if you are by yourself. Maybe you should go to discovery place.

[Edited on September 21, 2010 at 9:35 PM. Reason : didn't mean to leave out strips clubs. uptown cabaret or mens club are your best bets. ]

THE epicentre is fun. Especially when you live 2 blocks from it. Panther game is Sunday. Check out blackfinn.

Go to Montford and visit Brazwell's, Andrew Blair's or Angry Ale's. All have a East Village-like feel to it. Duckworth's on the corner of Montford and Park has about 40 beers on tap. If you go further down on Montford you can go to Moosehead and get the best wings in Charlotte.

^those are good ideas

you can also hit up the new Taco Mac in the southpark area and have some beers and catch the games on saturday. You aren't too far from the Penguin, you can go there and have some good burgers before they change ownership and flounder next month.

Anyone tried 15-North yet? I want to check it out in the near future. Anyway, Montford is probably your best bet for finding beers and checking out 22 year olds.

Ruby Tuesdays and Applebee's don't count as "bars in Charlotte."

Bad food and over-priced alcohol.

Most of these recommendations have been lame. Check out Plaza Central, Noda, or South-End. There's a few quality places downtown but most are over-priced and full of banker douche bags. I spent this past summer working uptown and the Epicentre is pretty shitty unless you like overpriced beer, bad cover bands, and shitty food (except for five-guys).

Plaza-central:

-Common market - deli/bar/store/music. Big selection of wine and beer and you can buy it and drink it there plus beer on draft and weekly free beer/wine tastings and delicious deli food.
-Thomas Street - decent outside patio
-Elizabeth Billiards - great place, free pool tables/darts and cheap alcohol.
-Soul Gastro Lounge - great tapas food, cool feel, and it's cheap
-Zada Janes - awesome for brunch
-Snug Harbor - Thursday nights are great if you're into that crowd.
-Philosophers Stone - one of my favorite bars/restaurants. Free music on the weekend and great food.
-Jacks - decent bar
-Hawthorn's Pizza - Mondays $1.50 draft night. You can't beat a Bell's Two Hearted for $1.50.
-Loco Lime - taco tuesdays - $7.50 all you can eat delicious tacos/rice/beans

Noda
http://www.noda.org/
-Decent music scene. There's music at a few venues almost every night of the week.
-Salvador Deli - good food and drinks
-Cabo Fish Taco - BBQ Mahi Mahi fish tacos are amazing
-Crepe Cellar - great food, typically a long wait
-Solstice - great sports bar with a big patio outside
-Dog bar is fun
-Boudreaux's Louisiana Kitchen is awesome and has great food.
-Just walk around. It's typically packed on the weekends.

Closer to Southpark:

Eddies Place and Hotel Charlotte are decent. Most of South Park has crap restaurants and bars. There's a few decent restaurants but most of it is lacking in character and there's not much you couldn't see in any other mid-size city. (unless you're into that kind of thing. I hear the cheesecake factory has a big menu).

If you're interested in actually seeing the city and not just drinking there's a long list of things to do this weekend:

-Festival in the Park at Freedom Park
-Nascar Hall of Fame is pretty cool inside (and i'm not a big nascar fan)
-New Mint Museum opening uptown ( http://www.mintmuseum.org/ )
-Bechtler Museum of Modern Art (http://www.bechtler.org/ )
-African American Cultural Center

Typically everything uptown is expensive and it's full of late 20's/early 30's bankers. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, I was one this past summer, but IMHO it's lacking in the character you get from these other places around Charlotte.

Now I have no idea what you're into so obviously everything is based upon what you like. I'm either shooting or volunteering at the Mint Museum opening on Saturday as well as dropping by Festival in the Park. It should be a pretty cool crowd. Check out the Bechtler next to it. Mario Botta is a world famous architect and his only other work in the US is the San Francisco MOMA. So at least check out the outside.

This just hits the top of the iceberg. There's the White Water Center which typically has free music and drinks but it's a drive. PM me if you need more ideas.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. yea right. and i agree, all of the bars i've been to in uptown/downtown whatever the fuck it has called have sucked ass and been complete douchebag/guido/express for men/rich white trash central.

not into it.

unfortunately these are the only places i've experienced. i'd love to go to a place with character in charlotte.

Bassnectar is playing Charlotte on Thursday night. I'll be in Charlotte Friday through Sunday (slim possibility I'll be going to that Bassnectar show too). I'm going to the Forum on Friday night, and some other place to see some DJ on Saturday, followed by Deep In The Park on Sunday afternoon.

It's easy to do. It's sad some people only see the shitty places when there's so many cool places to go in Charlotte. Uptown isn't ALL horrible. There's some good restaurants and hang outs but it's not where I spend most of my time.

I mean that's like going to Raleigh and only going to Buckhead or whatever would be the equivalent. It's hard to judge a place unless you've experienced a good bit of it.

^damn sold out show:

Place is going to be packed.

Ok, some serious suggestions (though tough by yourself):

Thomas St. Tavern, Common Market, Dish, etc. - Thomas St. bars
Angry Ale, etc. - Montford area bars
Gin Mill, Tavern on Tracks, Tyber Creek - Southend bars
Ri-Ra's (great outdoor patio), Connelly's, Phils, Cosmos, Butter (best looking people, if you can get in and want that atmosphere) - Uptown
Evening Muse (music and women), Dog Bar (dogs!), Solstice, Boudreax's - NoDa

Thursday night they have Riverjam, basically free music at the Whitewater Center

Thursday also has the Exorcist Directors Cut on big screen at Phillips place.

If you end up in the steele creek/carowinds area. tilted kilt is the SHIT. delicious food, attractive waitresses scantily clad you could probably take back to your hotel. lots of plasma tvs to watch the games on. and while most people focus on the attractive waitresses, i cannot understate the deliciousness of that food.

^i've lived in charlotte for all of my life that i haven't been at state. it's always been uptown to me.
