This game is fucking nuts.-infinitely huge worlds (I'm not joking)-building, mining, crafting, cooking, farming, rollercoasters-a crude electrical system for all you ECE people (you can build gates, clocks, flip flops)-dynamic water, lava, and lighthere's me redirecting an underground river to cool a pit of lava:http://bit.ly/alRc2NThe one guy developing it made 600,000 euros in the last few weeks (that was suspicious enough that paypal decided to freeze his account with nearly a million dollars in it: http://bit.ly/aGGicZ).The annoying thing about trying to sell people on this game is there's no free demo. The "classic" version is free online, but it sucks. Then again, the game is only about $12 at the moment.http://www.minecraft.net/[Edited on September 11, 2010 at 1:24 PM. Reason : asfdasdf]

^Just to clarify: that is the "classic" version of the game. Basically, you build shit with unlimited resources and no danger. The actual game today is more like a sandbox rpg. You have health and an inventory, there are monsters, and the world is infinite. (Like I said, I'm guessing it's pretty confusing when there are so many videos of creative out there).
9/12/2010 12:42:41 PM
is there a story line or something?
9/12/2010 6:39:20 PM
nope; it's pure sandboxI kind of wish there was... who knows? The guy is updating it very quickly. And there may be different modes before it's over. That being said, you may wonder what you actually do in the game when there's no quests/story. What I found interesting is that you naturally develop an implicit mission: build a cool fucking base (because zombies attack you constantly at night if you are in the open) that is bad ass/safe/useful. And also, build a really awesome mine because the best ores are very deep.[Edited on September 12, 2010 at 6:53 PM. Reason : asdfafs]

Seems like an engineer's wet dream. Should I buy it?
9/12/2010 8:52:21 PM
Man, I just played this game a lot
9/12/2010 9:48:46 PM
^^ Yeah. It's strangely hypnotic. I don't think I've ever been so captivated by a game where there's "nothing" to do.
9/12/2010 10:32:49 PM
Yep, okay definitely buying it after poking around the wiki.http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting
9/12/2010 10:53:06 PM
So everyone that plays it so far loves it?I'm intrigued and thinkign about buying. Should I?
9/13/2010 1:14:09 PM
Worth it.It's also kinda awesome that somebody selling an alpha version of a game is a millionaire now thanks to internet hype.
9/13/2010 1:42:15 PM
I actually played the very first release of this a couple years ago when he first released it. It was extremely buggy and there only about four block types, with no crafting or anything. I thought it was nifty but left after five minutes when there was absolutely nothing to do.Much has changed.
9/13/2010 3:10:47 PM
I BUILT A FUCKING FORT
9/13/2010 8:01:25 PM
i watched someone playing it, and i was very intrigued. It’s only a matter of time though before a major studio buys him out.

this game is a time eater

The first boring minute of that youtube video was more than made up for by that last minute.A+++ for execution, would watch again!

excellent thus fari am planning on building a floating castle above the ocean with a mob factory, tree/cacti/reed/wheat farms, an indoor canal system, and an elevated rail system to the nearest mineSO BALLER
9/15/2010 11:48:42 AM
how are you going to move the mob factory up there?
9/15/2010 11:54:13 AM
they like to spawn in dark places, so you can just make a totally dark room with a water pit that flows into a collection chamber. i haven't actually made a mob factory yet, but i'm going to go with ideas i have read about from the minecraft forums.
9/15/2010 11:57:57 AM
oh I thought you meant using a mob spawner box like you find in dungeons. I think in older versions you could pick them up and move them but now you can't (without hax).
9/15/2010 2:07:45 PM
^^I'm kind of pissed, I tried making something like that (a huge dark room), but nothing ever spawns thereanyone know enough about redstone to explain why the torches are so unintuitive? they only seem to work correctly when they're place on a raised block
9/15/2010 3:50:01 PM
i've yet to play the game myself, but pretty cool write-up here:http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/09/14/minecraft-mine-the-gap-day-1/#more-38794
9/16/2010 11:45:40 AM

^I, too, just finished building a huge stone watchtower.Anyway, yeah, this game is awesome. During the course of normal mining, I found a huge set of connected underground caverns after tunneling in the direction of various zombie noises. I explored them and became completely lost after having to flee one area due to running out of arrows and there being too many monsters (goddamned creepers) to fight at once. My supplies were running low and I was nearly out of wood, sticks, and torches, so I began to tunnel diagonally upwards...Long story short, I wound up striking the surface only 1 square away from my fenced-in farm area. Complete blind luck, and it was amazing.
9/20/2010 7:03:20 PM
I hate that this game is so simple, yet so awesome, and that i didn't think of it first

WTF, I was on a mine cart way far away from my spawn point, right clicked to get off the cart, and instantly died. I somehow find where I was fast enough to get my shit back, go up top to take the boat back, right click on the boat, and die instantly
