Well, as the topic says, I've lost my only motorcycle key. Oddly enought, I last saw it when I went to get a replacement made, but the place didnt have the right size. Its a Honda VTX1300. I've heard the only solution is to take the switch off and take it to a locksmith. Any other ideas?

The dealer may be able to order you one from the bike's VIN. Give them a call. That would be your cheapest option if they can.On my ATV it was something like $27 for a new ignition switch with two keys. Or check out the locksmith option.[Edited on August 30, 2010 at 4:01 PM. Reason : l]

If you have the original owner's manual and materials it came with, they usually have a "serial number" of sorts either on a tag or printed in the manual. Using that number, a key can be made for it. Without that number, a locksmith will have to just work out what the values are to make you a new key. That's pretty much all you've got (that you can do yourself) unless you want to swap out all the locks.[Edited on August 30, 2010 at 4:02 PM. Reason : .]

Bring it over and I'll drill it out for $5. Downside is everyone who views this thread now knows you can crank it with a pocket knife.[Edited on August 30, 2010 at 8:43 PM. Reason : Keys on a motorcycle are useless anyway. No one steals them by riding them.]
