my brother is buying a CPO 06 M5. it has a little over 50k miles and it looks like it is loaded. I have not driven it yet because he lives in Virginia. Any know issues on these cars other than the obvious that they are more expensive to service and get shitty gas mileage?

CPO ends at 100k miles or Dec 23, 2011 so he will have some protection.

if it's an '06 it can only be smg. '07+ could be ordered in manual after complaints from US customers

^good catch. I've heard the 7 speed is pretty jerky around town and that the 6sp is not very well matched to the engine's powerband. This true?

yeah, SMG is garbage and 6-speed manual is not helping torqueless big, family sports sedan that weighs 4000lbs. high revving concept is great (i personally prefer over low end torque), but leave it for M3 class. it really doesn't belong on E60. E39 M5 powerband was/is much sweeter for driving without sacrificing top end. mercedes has much better idea in this segment with those AMG beast engines that make 150ft.lb more than E60 M5 even though E60 torque is actually flatter.
