I was watching the recent use of the word partisan within the soap box. Now that July is over, I thought it'd be interesting to see the breakdown of how much its being used during that time period. April: 11May: 6June: 23July: 45indy - 11Optimum - 11hooksaw - 10Solinari - 7 d357r0y3r - 6Supplanter - 5 That's me!moron - 5Kris - 5m52ncsu - 4Potty Mouth - 3Socks`` - 2aaronburro - 2TerdFerguson - 2DaBird - 2lazarus - 1lafta - 1PinkandBlack - 1tromboner950 - 1Agent 0 - 1GrumpyGOP - 1eyedrb - 1OopsPowSrprs - 1TreeTwista10 - 1TULIPlovr - 1jwb9984 - 1Prawn Star - 1BridgetSPK - 1HockeyRoman - 1Boone - 1I'd point out that these numbers aren't meant as an indictment of anyone. I got to 5 without ever saying it outside of quoting (and somewhat from my tracking of the word partisan necessitating me saying the word partisan). My theory is that this word is being used more in articles covering politics as we approach an election and thus it is bleeding through into the soap box even more in terms of articles quoted & discussed. But there has undoubtedly been an increase in the use of the word.[Edited on August 6, 2010 at 7:32 PM. Reason : .]

my use of "partisan" usually came before "hack"and was used to describe hooksawi feel that's a fair use of "partisan"
8/6/2010 7:35:23 PM
I just don't like when people say that being bipartisan makes everything okay...That's only 2 parties. There are other viewpoints than those 2.
8/6/2010 8:02:12 PM
well 2 that matter
8/6/2010 8:03:23 PM
Uh oh, I think I am up to 2 now! >.<
8/6/2010 8:27:07 PM
^^^Of course you'd say that, you tripartisan hack
8/6/2010 11:16:46 PM
I'm not sure what to make of this, but it is interesting to think about. This should be an ongoing series, with a new buzz word each month.
8/6/2010 11:58:42 PM
I just checked and all 5 of my uses of par tisan were calling 5 different people part isan hacks.

The problem is discussing it kind of ruins the ability to easily track it, which is why I waited to discuss it in dept at the end of a month so it wouldn't throw off my tracking too much. But it is easy to see that this particular word was very much on the rise.Racism in TSB:April: 22May: 36June: 31July: 101Racist in TSB:April: 48May: 65June: 58July: 209(did a really quick count on these, numbers could be a little off)

Hey Sup..how bout tracking my favorites: Freedom and Liberty?
8/7/2010 12:59:12 AM
Freedom in TSB:April: 52May: 101June: 38July: 62Liberty in TSB:April: 12May: 29June: 17July: 39Seems to fluctuate, no easily discernible recent pattern, other than perhaps they rise and fall together.

Weird. My 1 instance of "partisan" is actually a quote from hooksaw so put me down for 0 mentions of the word...since 2008. And before 2008, you can count on me to be using it in a quote or desperately trying to convince people that an issue shouldn't be partisan.I'm actually really lame and predictable.

In a similar vein I thought it'd be interesting who uses ppl's who says people's usernames the most. I looked at the people who have posted so far to see who has said their name the most in TSB (looking at up to 150 of the most recent times its been said).m52ncsu most said by hooksawindy most said by supplanter (sort of, most of those times I was refering to the Indy as in the Independent Weekly which provides a lot of election information)HockeyRoman most said by hooksawBoone most said by supplanter (thanks to my Soap Boxers Personality Types thread)moron most said by TreeTwista10 (like Indy though, you have a name that is thrown around for purposes other than referring to you)Supplanter most said by supplanter (again thanks to my Soap Boxers Personality Types thread, although aaronburro comes in a close second)EarthDogg most said by supplanter (again the SBPT thread giving me a clear lead, but a very honorable mention goes to moron, bridget seemed to keep pace pretty well too)BridgetSPK most said by BridgetSPK (you did well to beat me despite my SBPT thread)Smc most said by SolinariDaBird most said by DaBird (although gamecat did well too)Hooksaw most said by supplanter (again SBPT, but Hooksaw gets an honorable mention)Many of the results were somewhat corrupted because of either names that are common words, or my SBPT thread skewing things, but I've highlighted the ones unaffected by that to see if there are any conclusions we can draw. One might be that we all say our own names a lot. I had hoped to make a conclusion on whether we tend to say the names of people we agree with more, or the names of people we disagree with more, but its really hard to say anything based off just this.

I'm surprised that I never used partisan, although I believe I have used ideological and especially "agents of intolerance" and "forces of evil"
8/9/2010 2:54:57 AM
^^^ NB: I wasn't even posting during the April-June period. So, I would like to highlight that I wasn't a part of the peak name-calling concerning any of the words in question.

Might be a little up b/c its getting closer to an election, but no real obvious patterns. Other than we like to talk about Obama. 2005 to 2010 = ~200 Bush threads (85 McCain threads in a similar period). 2008 to 2010 = 200 Obama threads. I guess we like to talk about Obama more?

We're going to need to see those numbers as a percentage of active posters over the same time period
