Can anyone recommend a higher class ocean front north myrtle resort? Has anyone stayed at the Beach Cove, Compass Cove, or Bay Watch resort? Something with a spa for the lady would be neat. Leme know

If you go in October or later, you can get an awesome deal. Like $60 a night for a room with a jacuzzi in it. Maybe for $65 you could get a heart-shaped jacuzzi

I don't know about high class or anything, but I stayed at Beach Cove for a week every summer for about 16 years. I don't like to admit that I really don't mind Myrtle Beach, but it really doesn't bother me--I just wouldn't really choose to go there anymore. Beach Cove is probably my favorite resort. It's getting old, but it's still really nice, great for groups of people. The price is reasonable I'd say, or it was back then. They have a lazy river.

Stayed at a place called Avista Resort in MB. Pretty nice place with a few pools, lazy river, and hot tubs. Doesn't have a spa, but has a masseuse down by the pool area that takes appointments for massages. http://avistaresort.com/

I'll second the prince resort if it was me going, I was actually surprised how decent it was for the price a few months ago. It's definitely not high class, but higher class than just about 80% of what's up that way (N Myrtle, not Myrtle). The prices for those places you listed in the OP were just too high for me to justify.

I would recommend breakers at MB if you want a place for kids ... (not that OP does, but just thought I would add it TTT).

They have lazy river, pirate ship water feature, hot tubs, indoor and outdoor pool .... my kids loved it.

Myrtle has some good points. I always went there on family vacations as a child and my parents still go yearly. This year they got a 2BR suite and took my girlfriend and me along, and I actually enjoyed it. Yeah, downtown is rednecky but if you're staying in North Myrtle you're nowhere near that. North Myrtle and Myrtle Beach proper are not even contiguous; there are a couple of little towns in between.

Go to dinner at Sea Captain's House. It's in Myrtle so it would be a bit of a drive, but I LOVE that place. Great seafood and, if you get one of the good tables, oceanfront dining.

The Kingston Plantation (http://www.kingstonplantation.com/) is awesome. We stayed at the Margate tower in a penthouse and it was the shit. Although 10 20-somethings don't belong in that place, it was really nice and not that expensive (mid-May).

On my travelzoo top 20 email yesterday they had a deal for $40/night at the patricia grand hotel if you stay sunday thru thursday between sept 6 and 30. A very good deal if you can go during the week

LOL I live in Charleston and whoever said Myrtle Beach is the same as Charleston is an idiot. So a high-rise Hilton next to an 8-lane intersection with a Waves on each corner is equally classy as a stately 200 year old mansion converted to a bed and breakfast.

Sure Folly Beach is rednecky (I suggest Isle of Palms if you want a nicer beach). But at least it has a small beach town feel instead of 5,000 mini golf courses.

You can see redneck shit anywhere you go. Go to the Windjammer on Isle of Palms on a Sunday, and it's just as redneck as anywhere you can go in Myrtle Beach.

HOWEVER...the difference is that it is in small, select places in a city like Charleston. In Myrtle Beach, its EVERYWHERE.
