Anyone think this will happen? Seems like a nightmare, going through a full year with only baseball and hockey, and you can't even watch hockey because nobody has Versus. But with both the NBA and NFL CBAs expiring, lockouts are a very real possibility for both sports.http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/The_Baseline/entry/view/53524/expect_an_nba_lockout_in_2011http://www.nesn.com/2010/02/union-leader-nfl-lockout-likely-after-2010.html

i hope it happens.[Edited on July 15, 2010 at 2:03 AM. Reason : flame away.]

The NFL will not happen, they will find a way somehow. I actually prefer baseball and hockey over football and basketball personally, but I would still not enjoy any major sport missing time due to these types of disagreements.
7/15/2010 2:12:30 AM
The NFL is absolutely headed for a lockout or strike. Chances it happens are above 95%.The owners and players are just miles and miles apart. There is no way a deal gets done before the start of the 2011 season.

The fallout from an NFL lockout would be extraordinary to watch. There are so many pathetic losers whose lives depend on nothing more than their Redskins, Raiders or Cowboys.Let us not forget how many people were up in arms in response to ONE WEEK of NFL games being postponed after 9/11.I guess I may be optimistic in saying I believe the two sides will find some harmony, but it just seems like the consequences of no compromise are too devastating to be imagined. Why would anyone hope it happens? Even if you don't like the sport?I remember how awful that summer/fall of 1994 was. I wouldn't wish that for any NFL fan the way I am a fan of baseball...

No way in hell this happens. There is too much money to be made from advertising for either of these leagues to allow the CBAs to expire without SOMETHING in place to replace them.
7/15/2010 9:07:23 AM
All of the athletes are too stupid to make money any other way, so I would think they'll keep playing. Or do they still get paid if there's no football?

God this would suck. I absolutely loathe watching baseball and hockey on television.

As a sports fan I'd hate it but as a Redskins fan I welcome anything that keeps Dan Snyder from raping my childhood any further.

I wonder if ESPN would actually show hockey highlights in the winter if both of the leagues were to lock the players out.

^^LOLalso might be the only way to get Wolfpack football players playin professional footballim all for it, we can get a team of ex wolfpack players and push them into the replacment league and all sit in bragaw hall lobby and masturbate as we watch them beat up on Al Bundy's Polk High boys[Edited on July 15, 2010 at 12:54 PM. haha, MLS's big chance... Lou Gerig in for Wally Pip
7/15/2010 3:48:56 PM
i don't think the MLS would get much out of it unless the MLB was striking

Maybe someone will start a new USFL with a new Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks. Hire Chuck Amato to coach to bring in all the idiot State fans who loved his shades.
7/21/2010 11:48:55 AM
I think the nfl gets worked out in time for a full or close to full season. Too much money onthe line for both sides.Nba on the other hand the owners have all the leverage, they are getting locked out for at least half a season
7/21/2010 4:09:07 PM
^^^ nobody, the Chargers will select 31st.
7/21/2010 7:18:34 PM
^^ What? Did you just miss how 3 players completely changed the NBA for the next 6 years? I don't follow how NBA owners have more 'leverage' than any other sports owners. [Edited on July 21, 2010 at 8:22 PM. Reason : df]
7/21/2010 8:21:59 PM
Collectively, The owners lose less money by locking the players out than by actualluy playing the season. The marginal costs of employing the players is too high.In an economy like this no owners are dying to hemmorhage money so they will be all too happy to shut down the season and live off of their money making businesses. The players on the other hand have huge liabilities and for the most part no other avenues to make money than with their basketball skills. They can't exactly afford to just go on an extended vacation and resume their careers when they are 40.All of the leverage is on the owner's side in the NBA and they will demand huge concessions and get most of them. The players will lose in any scenario, its only a matter of time and money they wish to waste in negotiations. The NFL is the complete opposite it is a mutually beneficial relationship between the players and owners and that's why they will likely get something done with minimal interruption.

Im kinda curious about what will happen with all of that empty TV time next fall. If this happens, hopefully they move some college games to Sundays? Obviously NASCAR is thrilled at the idea of a NFL lockout.

this would be funny
12/6/2010 2:03:10 PM
I absolutely wouldn't give a shit about the NBA, especially because it could make the college season(s) that much better. The NFL would be a little sad, given the sad amount of time I dedicate to fantasy football, but there's always fantasy hockey
